Dark Tranquillity's new album "Construct" will hit stores on May 27th in Europe & May 28th in North America. This new album will follow the band's previous full-length release "We Are The Void" (reviewed here).
Check out the official album trailer below & if you listen carefully you'll even hear a snippet of a new track.
Dark Tranquillity has officially parted ways with bassist Daniel Antonsson. The band issued the following statement:
"Shortly before beginning the studio sessions for the upcoming 10th studio album 'Construct,' the band amicably parted ways with bassist Daniel Antonsson.
"The decision has been growing for a while, and the main reason is that Daniel wanted to focus on his own musical projects as well as working more in his recording studio. Being first and foremost a guitarist, he felt that the playing bass in a full-time band didn’t allow him much time for his main instrument and true passion.
"With this in mind, he chose to follow his heart and step aside at this point instead of committing to another album and an intense touring cycle that would leave little room for other activities. We thank Daniel for his years in the band - filled with great shows and amazing memories and experiences in all corners of the world - and wish him all the best with his future musical career. The guardians of the Gothenburg sound, Dark Tranquillity, are ready to announce their upcoming 10th album. The band comments:
"Greetings, Darklings! After having played over 200 shows in every corner of the world in support of the 'We Are The Void' album, it's time to focus inwards and lock ourselves up in the studio. Months and months of hard songwriting work has paid off, and the recording sessions will start early this year.
"Further details will be announced in due time, but for now we can reveal that the album will be entitled 'Construct' and that we're very excited to have Jens Bogren (Paradise Lost, Opeth, Katatonia) taking care of the mix. The release date is set for May 28 in North America." More...
Dark Tranquillity has posted the following announcement online about canceling the band's previously scheduled European tour dates:
"It is with great frustration that we have to announce the cancellation of our participation in the planned European tour 'Metal Attack Over Europe.'
"The reasons are several. The main tour promoter has failed in making the necessary practical and logistical arrangements needed for the tour to happen. Due to the lack of reliable information and substandard promotion, ticket sales have been surprisingly low. We can't just embark on a one-month, five-band trek risking to be met by closed venues or not being 100% sure that the necessary arrangements for the shows even to happen are in place. The fact that Warbringer had to cancel didn’t help the situation.
"We understand that many people will be disappointed, and so are we. Rest assured that our booking agent has been doing his outmost to save the tour and try to sort things out, but the sad reality is that we're left with no choice but to cancel. We are truly sorry about this situation."
Dark Tranquillity also digitally released the "Zero Distance" EP (reviewed here) last month, which includes five tracks taken from the European tour edition of "We Are The Void" (2010).
Swedish melodic death metal legends Dark Tranquillity will digitally release their "Zero Distance" EP on October 22nd in North America. The EP's five tracks are taken from the European tour edition of "We Are The Void" (2010), and the track listing is as follows:
1. Zero Distance
2. Out Of Gravity
3. Star Of Nothingness
4. To Where Fires Cannot Feed
5. The Bow And The Arrow
Dark Tranquillity had this to say about the EP and the immediate future of the band: "We are excited to offer the 'Zero Distance' EP to our US fans who missed out on being able to pick up the limited tour edition of 'We Are The Void.' We would also like to inform our fans that we're are already working on songs for the new album and we plan to enter the studio after the 'Metal Attack Over Europe' tour with our label mates Warbringer! We expect to see a summer 2013 release of this new opus and we look forward to seeing everyone in the U.S. as we tour in support of this new release..."
The band is currently working on a 10th studio album, tentatively set for a summer 2013 release via Century Media Records. More...
This year's Summer Breeze festival will be taking place from August 16th - 18th, with full details available at the festival's website here. The organizers of Summer Breeze have now issued the following announcement about confirming new bands:
"Since the release of their amazing breakthrough album 'Inwards', Dew-Scented have been at the forefront of European thrash metal. Since then, the cool bunch led by frontman Leif Jensen have been producing fantastic albums full of unstoppable riff power and overwhelming intensity at nicely regular intervals, cementing the band's excellent reputation time and again. In 2012, Dew-Scented aim at kick-starting their career with an entirely new line-up – with the exception of band boss Leif – and the fantastic new album 'Icarus', and are gearing up to shatter the Summer Breeze Open Air into small pieces. We are stoked to welcome the indestructible machine called Dew-Scented at our festival once more. Get thrashed!
"When Agrypnie played the Summer Breeze festival in 2008 for the first and only time so far, they were booked as consolation for all those who were mourning the recent disbanding of Nocte Obducta. Four years, one studio album and one EP later, the Hessians have made a career for themselves, having now reached the same level as the aforementioned group. Their new studio album is still being recorded as we speak, but their last EP 'Asche' was already an announcement for big things to come in the realm of post black metal. Expressive, multi-faceted, melancholic, dynamic – all these attributes fit Agrypnie like a glove and are underlined by the fact that their songs don't ever become predictable or interchangable. One of the most exciting bands our scene has to offer nowadays."

The organizers of the upcoming Summer Breeze 2012 festival have issued the following update about confirming new acts:
"Italy is not exactly a hotbed for dark doom metal. Fortunately enough, there are always exceptions to confirm the rule. With the three albums they have released so far, The Foreshadowing have provided a master class in gloom and doom. Hailing from Rome, the band prove that it is indeed possible to write great atmospheric songs without falling into excessive pathos and kitsch. Especially singer Marco Benevento's clear, ear-piercing vocals take the group's material to a level which is only populated by bands such as Katatonia, My Dying Bride, early Anathema and even Opeth. Don't miss this black pearl of darkness! You will hardly experience anything bigger, darker and more epic at Summer Breeze 2012!
"Breakdowns aren't exactly the most innovative element in metal nowadays... However, if you use them with such conviction and vehemence as Bleed From Within, even the most athletically challenged of metalheads should soon mutate into pit fighter number one. The UK band have two albums out which should appeal to fans of As I Lay Dying, Bring Me The Horizon and Parkway Drive, while at times Bleed From Within are even more melodic than the aforementioned bands, only to dive into a brutal breakdown the very next second. All fans of metalcore and deathcore should highlight this band in their personal running order, as this is the perfect stuff for all of them!"
Century Media Records has renewed a record deal for the 3rd time with Swedish melodic death metal legends, Dark Tranquillity. This influential band from Gothenburg released a first album on Century Media Records in 1999, and since then has released 6 albums, plus 2 DVDs and a handful of special releases.
Jens Prueter, Head Of A&R at Century Media Europe comments: "I start to believe in Numerology. 13 years ago, Dark Tranquillitysigned their first contract with Century Media Records. Friday the 13th of April, I met Mikael Stanne and Niklas Sundin for the Roadburn festival at the lovely 013 venue in Tilburg to receive the signed copies of their 3rd Century Media contract for 3 more albums. The 3 of us had about 13 beers to celebrate it. It's amazing how Dark Tranquillity are able to express their legacy as one of the original godfathers of the melodic death metal/Gothenburg sound without sounding outdated today. They always managed to stick to their roots and develop to new heights at the same time. Looking forward to the next album in 2013. Cheers!"
The band comments: "After such a long history together, we're more confident than ever that Century media is the perfect working partner for Dark Tranquillity. In a climate where a lot of record labels are weighed down by cynicism or have just plain given up in the face of the rapidly changing industry climate, Century media are still enthusiastic and forward thinking and take huge pride in releasing great music that matters. Here's to another 13 years!" More...

Morbid Angel's new album "Illud Divinum Insanus" will be out in less than a week, and Season of Mist has now asked a series of famous names in the metal what they thought of the influential extreme metal act's new opus. The commentary from the various musicians can be viewed below, or you can check out Metalunderground.com's review here.
"The new Morbid Angel album will cause 3rd World War. After June 7th, the extreme metal scene is never gonna be the same again... And I already can't wait the moment I'll be sitting on my sofa listening to 'Illus Divinum Insanus' while the world burns! Ha!" - Nergal, Behemoth.
"No other band in the entire Extreme Metal genre but Morbid Angel would have ever dared to make 'Illud Divinum Insanus'. There are going to be quite a few unimaginative underground purists who think they know better what kind of album Morbid Angel should or should not be putting out, but with 'Illud Divinum Insanus' Trey and David prove that they answer to no one but themselves. It is an incredibly well written, performed, recorded and produced record." - Karl Sanders, Nile.
"One of the best death metal releases since their last album with Vincent. I'm not too much into the techno bits but I am a dude who will appreciate and respect bands doing new things, progressing... So it's all good. Vincent's vocals of course are still as good as they come. And the riffs are definitely there, Trey always delivers. New drummer is killer too!" - Mikael Akerfeldt, Opeth.
"The ultimate voice of death metal is back, as hellish as ever!" - Mikael Stanne, Dark Tranquillity.
"Glad to see Morbid Angel are back! We had our share of criticism when we first incorporated electronic elements in our sound and we know it takes courage and passion to follow one's own stream of inspiration. This time the guitar work is more impressive than ever and those 11 songs are a real 'tour de force'. With this new album they're not afraid to take the hit from the more conservative audience but that's what it means to be extreme!" - Vorph, Samael
"Innovation, wits and a feral 'no compromise' attitude is what brands the greatest of bands. 'Illud Divinum Insanus' is all that and a leap further! Hail Morbid Angel!" - Rune "Blasphemer" Eriksen, Ava Inferi, ex Mayhem. More...
