Dark Tranquillity Bassist Diagnosed w/ T2 Diabetes

An important message from Michael Nicklasson was recently posted on the Dark Tranquillity website:

I've gotten some mails and questions concerning my health during this tour, from fans that are worried about my weight loss and my numbness. The thing is that I just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes one week before this tour, so I just started with insulin. I'm getting a little better day by day and it`s a real struggle for me, but I'm trying to do my best for the band and the fans. I wanted to post this so everyone knows the facts about this. As it is right now my body doesn't work as it´s supposed to and that means that I'm very tired all the time, not having the energy that I used to have...but as written above, I just want to say to those who are worried about me: don't be - ok? Now you know why things are as they are, and I'm getting a little bit better everyday...Thanx for your concerns everyone, I will not give up!

Cheers,
Mickey

Scar Symmetry Discuss Debut US Tour

Hailing from Sweden, SCAR SYMMETRY have been invited to join THE HAUNTED and DARK TRANQUILLITY on their co-headlining stint for The Century Family’s inaugural ”Metal For The Masses” tour. The line-up will also include Canada’s INTO ETERNITY. Sponsored by Decibel magazine, Draven, and Lambgoat, the tour’s moniker is derived from The Century Family’s annual Metal For The Masses compilation series, which is now on its fifth volume in the series and available exclusively through Hot Topic.

Checking in from his home in Gävle, SCAR SYMMETRY’s lead guitarist Per Nilsson shares his reaction to the band’s upcoming maiden tour of the U.S. & Canada and also makes a few predictions:

“So, finally, we get our first chance to tour North America. We’ve been awaiting this opportunity for some time now, and when the invitation came for us to join this tour package, we had no problem saying ‘HELL YEAH!!!’ The Haunted, Dark Tranquillity, Into Eternity and SCAR SYMMETRY - this must be every metalhead’s dream come true! A few things that are very likely to happen on this tour are: A) Kenneth [Seil, bassist] is going to drink too much; B) Jonas [Kjellgren, lead & rhythm guitar] is going to drink too much; C) Christian [Älvestam, lead singer] won’t drink at all to keep his voice in shape; and D) Jonas is going to shave most of his facial hair, leaving only a grand mustache, making him look like an old German geezer!” More...

Dark Tranquillity Reveal Fiction Album Details

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers DARK TRANQUILLITY triumphantly return with "Fiction" in April 2007, a scorching effort that will undoubtedly add an exhilarating new chapter to the genre's storied history. The album was mixed by the acclaimed Tue Madsen (HIMSA, THE HAUNTED) and encompasses all of the elements on which the band built their career: thought-provoking lyrics, shredding guitar work, captivating melodies and sheer brutality. This offering is perhaps best compared to a modern-day version of the group's revered classics "The Gallery" and "The Mind's I", only with more intensity behind it. The blueprint of melodic death metal is now at your fingertips.

Niklas Sundin (guitars) further describes his thoughts on the new album: "Tue Madsen did a fantastic job with the sound, and the result is diverse and exciting enough to satisfy even the most critical of listeners. The 10 songs are extremely varied and showcase all facets of the D.T. experience while breaking new ground as well as reviving some elements that haven't been featured in D.T. songs since the early years. At the moment, we're putting the finishing touches to the packaging as well as preparing for the recording of the 'Focus Shift' and 'Misery's Crown' promo videos. Directing is once again Roger Johansson, who worked with us on the videos for 'Character'."

DARK TRANQUILLITY holds the esteemed distinction as being one of the bands responsible for founding an entirely new genre of death metal in the early '90s, which came to be known as "the Gothenburg sound." Their previous album, "Character", was hailed by critics and fans alike as the group's most savage and dynamic offering yet. They have solidified their fanbase through numerous tours alongside the likes of such genre titans as KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, KREATOR, IN FLAMES, OPETH and SOILWORK, among others. More...

Laethora Set Release Date

THE END RECORDS has set a February 20th, 2007 U.S. release date for their debut album from Sweden’s LAETHORA titled "March of the Parasite." The album, which features guitarist Niklas Sundin from Dark Tranquillity and members of The Provenance (Joakim Rosen, bassist Jonnie Tall and drummer Joel Lindell), is firmly rooted in the death/grind tradition, yet challenging and innovative. In a recent interview with MTV.COM about the debut, Sundin described the album as "extreme and in-your-face, but organic rather than clinical-sounding."

In other news, Sundin notes: “Things are going fine in the Laethora camp. As soon as all the paperwork is done, we'll announce a record label for the European territory. In addition, we’re hard at work writing songs for the follow-up to March of the Parasite as well as planning for the first couple of live shows. More news to follow in the near future!”

The song “Black Void Remembrance” off the forthcoming debut is now available for streaming at the official The End Records' MySpace page.

Dark Tranquillity Finish New Album

Dark Tranquillity Have posted the following update on their myspace page:

"I can´t believe it....We made it! It´s done and there is nothing I can do about it. Just got back from the studio where everything is now shipped off to Denmark where Tue Madsen will perform his magicky magic on the things we´ve been working on these last 7 weeks.

I just finished the last vocal lines a couple of days ago and it feels sweet. As always with recordings there is alot of stress and selfdoubt but being in a more than familiar environment in Martin's studio (Rogue) has helped tremendously. The recordings have not only been smooth and focused but the overall feeling that we are creating something amazing has really driven us through this. More...

Dark Tranquillity Checks In From Korea

Dark Tranquillity have posted the following update on their official web site:

"Finally got some time out of the hectic schedule to issue a website update from the luxurious bar of our hotel in Korea. The tour has been a truly phenomenal experience so far, and we want to extend a huge "THANKS!" to the all the awesome people that made the shows in Japan and Australia so successful.

"After traveling for 24 hours straight, via three different flights, we've finally arrived to Seoul and spent some quality seightseeing time visiting the 63 building and the War memorial of Korea before getting some well-needed rest for the first time in two weeks. Hence, tonight's show at the Rolling hall is bound to be a massive energy explosion that will leave no-one unaffected.

"Speaking of Korea, the fine people at Dope entertainment have issued a re-release of 'Character"'to coincide with our gigs here. The new version features the 'Lost to apathy' and 'The new build' video clips.

"Tip of the day: If you're a fan of technical/progressive bands like Atheist and Cynic, check out the excellent Alarum, who supported us on the Sydney and Melbourne dates."
