Dark Tranquillity Posts Track Medley

Gothenburg's melodic death metal pioneers from Dark Tranquillity have now released a medley of the two tracks "The Absolute" and "Time Out of Place." These songs are taken from the bonus disc of the "Atoma" deluxe edition.

The band explains, "A lot of our songs start out as pieces of music written on piano / keyboards before getting transformed into guitar driven metal. With this recording, we wanted to explore what would happen if we instead let the material take another direction, and we're extremely thrilled by the result."

New album "Atoma" will be released tomorrow and is available as limited 2CD mediabook in slipcase (Europe only) or limited 2CD digipak (North America only), as a CD jewelcase, and gatefold LP+CD.

Sunday Old School: Dark Tranquillity

Metal loves to trace the roots and popularity of a style back to specific bands. Thrash metal famously has its "big four," of Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax , black metal goes back to Venom, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate and Bulldozer and melodic death metal is often credited mostly to Carcass, In Flames, At The Gates and today’s featured band, Dark Tranquillity.

The band began life in 1989 after guitarists Niklas Sundin and Mikael Stanne put together a group named Septic Broiler, soon being joined in their endeavours by bassist Martin Henriksson, vocalist Anders Fridén and drummer, Anders Jivarp. Tney quickly recorded a demo, "Enfeebled Earth," before deciding to change their name to the now familiar moniker, Dark Tranquility. They soldiered on until they were snapped up by Spinefarm Records, through which they released their debut album, "Skydancer" in 1993, which was met with mostly positive reviews. It was quite different from later releases and many look back on it now as one of the dark horses of the Dark Tranquility catalogue. More...

Dark Tranquillity Releases New Video

Sweden's Dark Tranquillity has released an official video for "The Science Of Noise," taken from latest album, "Construct" (reviewed here). Check it out below (German fans will need to watch here). The band comments:

"The festival season has just started, which is a good reason to release our very live based video clip for 'The Science Of Noise.' The bulk of the material was shot during last year's 'World Construct' tour, but for various reasons the video wasn't completed until now.

"Also, we're very pleased to welcome Erik Jacobson (from the Gothenburg-based Deals Death) as a stand-in guitarist while Niklas is busy with parental duties. Furthermore, our old brother Anders Iwers (Tiamat, Avatarium, Ceremonial Oath) is handling the bass guitar, making this a very special run. Hope to see as many of you as possible at the shows!"

Dark Tranquillity Cancels Tonight's Vancouver Show

Dark Tranquillity is on the road touring in support of latest album "Construct" (reviewed here), but the band won't be making tonight's show in Vancouver. Dark Tranquillity comments:

"With heavy hearts we have to inform you that tonight's show unfortunately won't happen as planned.

"The harsh weather conditions have caused some roads to completely close down all traffic, making it impossible for the bus to make it to Vancouver. Every possible (and impossible) option was considered, but there simply is no chance of the show happening.

"Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. Again, we're tremendously sorry about this. We were all looking forward to playing and meeting up with our friends in Vancouver, and judging by the pre-sales and general buzz it was a very anticipated show for many of you, but as there's absolutely no realistic way for us to physically get to Vancouver today the only option is to admit defeat and cancel the gig."
