My Dying Bride Posts Behind The Scenes Video

British doom legends My Dying Bride recently released the official video for "Your Broken Shore," the first single from their upcoming 13th studio album, "The Ghost Of Orion." Directed by James Sharrock (Slipknot, Behemoth, Soundwave Festival) and with influences including the British psychological horror movie Kill List, the themes are dark and the imagery perfectly aligned with the crushingly desolate mood of the track. Partly filmed in a valley in the depths of Yorkshire during a cold November evening, the video saw frontman Aaron plunging himself into ice cold waters for the sake of his art. Find out more about the making of the video and how it all came together below.

"Your Broken Shore" is taken from the upcoming album "The Ghost Of Orion," which will be out on 6th March on CD, black 2LP Gatefold, white 2LP Gatefold, red 2LP Gatefold and picture disc 2LP. More...

My Dying Bride Reveals New Album Details

Like a phoenix from the ashes, a legend rises again in 2020. My Dying Bride went through some tough times last year and fought many struggles along the way, but now the British doom metal band are proud to announce their new studio album The Ghost Of Orion for 6th March 2020.

The new My Dying Bride record is the product of a vibrantly creative band that is more than willing to build on their past successes. The band commented:

"A new album for a new era of My Dying Bride with fresh faces and a more accessible style compared to some of their past, highly technical releases. 'The Ghost of Orion' features compositions not only of epic proportions but of intimate quality too, from death metal vocals to the pained cries of a vocalist in longing, the L.P. will raise and fall like the beautiful landscape of Yorkshire in which it was recorded. With layer upon layer of guitars both heavy and harmonic, Andrew Craighan has created a rich soundscape that is beautifully epic, enhanced with violins and keys from Shaun MacGowan along with the ominous murmur of cello from acclaimed cellist Jo Quail. And speaking of guest artists, the wondrous voice of Lindy-Fay Hella (Wardruna) adds an ethereal beauty to the album.

"Adding his particular style of drumming this time round is Jeff Singer whose percussion exploits have elevated the bands’ rhythm section to another level aided by the effortlessly stylish Lena Abe on bass guitar. Aaron Stainthorpe delivers a compelling and often disturbing performance with his own particular style of vocals offering sincere eulogies along with the visceral carnage of a soul in pain, with poetic lyrics of a quality not often seen in this genre. This collection of songs is the bands most brilliant yet, honing 30 years of experience into the well crafted offering that is 'The Ghost of Orion'." More...

My Dying Bride Replaces Drummer

British doom metal veterans My Dying Bride has announced that they have parted company with drummer Shaun Steels. In his place comes former Paradise Lost drummer Jeff Singer. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"My Dying Bride have recently had to part ways with Shaun Steels due to unresolvable drumming issues. Jeff Singer (Kill2This, Paradise Lost and Blaze amongst others) has kindly agreed to step in. Since Jeff’s addition the album has (musically) been completed and pre-production is now going great guns, lyrics and vocals are understandably still in the making but the band can prepare for the studio professionally now having 90% of the music in place and all drums complete."

A quote from the band simply says "Jeff has been a light in a dark room, he breathlessly and seamlessly plays with the new music and intuitively seems to know what we're asking for, he has removed a lot of unnecessary pressure from the band in an already testing time. At last something good happens” There are no definite recording dates as yet and still no song titles or album title. But it appears the band is forging forward.

"Merry Christmas indeed!!"

My Dying Bride Working On New Material

My Dying Bride vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe has checked in with fans explaining why the band hasn't been performing since cancelling a string of shows last year. Sadly, the singer has been dealing with an awful personal issue, but has positive updates not just for himself and his family, but also has confirmed that My Dying Bride are working on material for a new album. His message reads as follows:

“Many of you have been wondering what has happened to the band since we cancelled all our shows back in late 2017. Well, here is the answer.

"In September 2017 my beautiful little daughter, just five years old, was diagnosed with cancer. This event devastated the whole family as well as close friends and of course all of My Dying Bride and related colleagues. A black hole of worry and panic opened up before me and I was fearful of what was to come. The horror that surrounds this terrible disease is real and brutal and relentless.

"The highly destructive but very necessary poison that is chemotherapy was started and after a time, surgery removed the main tumour but it had spread. Early 2018 a second major operation was needed to finally get rid of the visible mass but cells were still in her body so radiotherapy took place to destroy these. The side-effects of both chemo and radio therapies left her a broken and sorry little thing and my heart was aching like never before. As the father of a deeply sick child, I was on the brink of total implosion. More...

My Dying Bride Vocalist Denies Breakup Rumours

My Dying Bride vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe has addressed recent rumours that the band is breaking up after the band were forced to cancel upcoming live shows and some cryptic statuses were posted on their Facebook page. He has issued a statement on the group's official page which reads as follows:

"I would like to quash some recent rumours regarding the demise of My Dying Bride in the light of our previous statements. We most certainly are NOT splitting up and in fact are vigorously composing the next album right now. The reason we have had to cancel a run of shows is due to a severe and fearful illness that has struck a member of my immediate family for which I have now dedicated all my time until signs of improvement. The other five members of the band however are working hard to produce the next opus which will be our debut for new label partners Nuclear Blast and will be released in 2018. I will do my part when the time comes and I can assure fans that it is going to be suitably epic.

"Apologies to all who were looking forward to seeing us perform live but rest assured, we will be back!

"Cheers
"Aaron Stainthorpe"

My Dying Bride Inks Deal With Nuclear Blast

For 27 years, My Dying Bride from West Yorkshire have been the voice of the hopeless and broken, combining haunting sounds with crushing misery and melancholy. With a signature sound, the group has shaped the doom metal scene like barely any other act and integrated both soft violin melodies and violent death metal growls into the music.

Ssince the early Nineties, band masterminds and founding members Andrew Craighan and Aaron Stainthorpe have forged beautiful grief into twelve studio albums with songs of epic length. However for their 13th release, they are now bound for new horizons and proudly announce signing to Nuclear Blast Records.

Singer and lyricist Aaron Stainthorpe comments: "It is with great pleasure that My Dying Bride can announces joining forces with the formidable Nuclear Blast Records in early 2017 and has already begun working on material for the next LP and singles. It is no secret that Nuclear Blast continued to expand greatly over the years, signing epic bands from all corners of the world and giving them the chance they deserve to make something of themselves in the ever expanding metal scene. And it’s time that My Dying Bride came along for the ride. We are hoping that this wedding between a very solid label and a well-established act will bear fruit of mighty proportions in the exciting years to come!" More...

1985-1995: The Golden Age of Death Metal

Death should be credited with creating death metal, at least the old school style we recognize now, as they birthed the infamous Tampa, Florida sound. Bands such as Autopsy and Obituary—two of the forerunners—would not exist without Death. Death is not the true father of death metal, though. That distinction goes to Possessed. The California Bay Area group not only played a style of brutal, vicious metal, with loads of Satanic imagery, they also coined the term “death metal” on the “Seven Churches” album.

Around 1985, albums similar to “Slowly We Rot” (Obituary) and “Mental Funeral” (Autopsy) simply did not exist. Thrash was the fasted, craziest music around. Of course Possessed has already been mentioned, but the influence of Slayer, who obviously influenced Possessed, can not be under recognized. Where Possessed was different was they used a rougher production. Dark Angel, whose drummer, Gene Hoglan, would go on to be one of the most heralded drummers in the metal biz, certainly showed a good dose of Slayer in their sound. In the beginning, Slayer was nothing more than a faster, nefarious, more solo-oriented Venom protégé. More...
