Background

This melodic death metal band, formed by former Carcass’ guitarist, Michael Amott, started out with Johan Liiva on vocals, but then replaced him with Angela Gossow. Though a female replaced him, the band still has the same death metal vocal style. Gossow, who has only been with the band on the past two albums, has been able to create a strong presence in the band.

Arch Enemy Streaming New Song Online

Guitarist Michael Ammot of Arch Enemy has issued the following update about streaming the re-recorded song "Beast of Man" from their upcoming album "The Root of All Evil" on their MySpace page:

"So the time has arrived for a first taste of ‘The Root Of All Evil’! The song ‘Beast Of Man’ was originally written as a last minute addition to the ‘Stigmata’ album back in 1998. Daniel (Erlandsson) had just returned to the ARCH ENEMY drum throne and I wrote this one and another song called ‘Diva Satanica’ in a day or two. Christopher (Amott) had the cool harmonized mid section part and that was that, we went into the studio and rehearsed, recorded and mixed them in a marathon 24 hour session. It was OK at the time, but I always thought the songs deserved a little more love and attention.

"The 2009 version of this song is really heads and shoulders above the original in my opinion. The song was always cool, but the production on the original was quite poor, more like a demo really. I am very pleased that we did this ‘Root Of All Evil’ project and that we can give these songs a 'new life'… Enjoy the ‘Beast Of Man’!”

"The Root Of All Evil" will be released on September 28th and contains re-recorded tracks from the bands first three albums “Black Earth," “Stigmata,"and “Burning Bridges."

"Istanbul – walking a fine line between freedom of choice and - its government.. still.. I mean, we had a fantastic time in Istanbul. Such a diverse and rich culture on display. Really nice people. Friendly. Helpful. Metal fans all over the place. One really gets the impression people are free here to express themselves.. Until you get to read this – which obviously happened at the day of our show. Metal kids were throwing the devil horns and got arrested for it. But even their poor prime minister will not stop them from being rebels – They are growing up with the right attitude;-) More...

Arch Enemy Reveals "The Root Of All Evil" Artwork

Arch Enemy have revealed the cover artwork for their upcoming album "The Root Of All Evil," which can be viewed here. Arch Enemy issued the following statement about the album:

"On September 28th, 2009 ARCH ENEMY will release their new studio album ‘The Root Of All Evil’ in Europe. It contains a selection of completely re-recorded tracks from the band’s first three albums ‘Black Earth’ (1996), ‘Stigmata’ (1998) and ‘Burning Bridges’ (1999) reenergized and unified by the band’s ultimate line-up!

"Originally recorded with ever changing band members (i.e. former vocalist Johan Liiva, drummer Peter Wildoer, bass player Martin Bengtsson), ‘The Root Of All Evil’ presents classic tracks as ‘Beast Of Man’, ‘The Immortal’, ‘Transmigration Macabre’ or ‘Bridge Of Destiny’ with the insane vocals of Angela Gossow, several completely new bass lines by Sharlee D’Angelo, the ever-present guitar wizardry of the Amott brothers as well as Daniel Erlandsson’s merciless punch. The entire project was approached with the idea of having the possibility to re-add these songs to the bands live set and follow up the release with some special touring activity.

"The album was recorded at a few different locations in Sweden and produced by ARCH ENEMY with Daniel Erlandsson and Rickard Bengtsson handling the engineering. Finally, this special release was mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap. In the light of ARCH ENEMY finding their defining line-up and a bigger worldwide recognition with 2002’s ‘Wages Of Sin’ album, it has been a logical decision to update the earlier compositions and present them in the splendour of a 2009 shape.

"The band chose to have the ‘The Root Of All Evil’ artwork/layout created by Brazilian artist Gustavo Sazes. More details on ‘The Root Of All Evil’ will be announced in the coming weeks!"

Arch Enemy Cancels Hunter Fest Appearance

Arch Enemy has issued the following update about canceling their appearance at the Hunter Fest in Poland:

"Arch Enemy and many other bands on the 'Hunter Fest' (Poland) bill have pulled out due to the promoter not paying the bands their deposit. Michael Amott comments: 'This is a real shame as this was to be Arch Enemy's first ever concert in Poland. Unfortunately for the fans, this so called 'festival' is a scam. We will be looking into how we can play Poland with a serious promoter in the future.'

"Arch Enemy's performances this weekend at the Zwarte Cross festival (Holland) and the Lorca Rock Festival (Spain) will of course go ahead as originally planned! 24-July-2009 @ Zwarte Cross Festival (The Netherlands) and 25-July-2009 Lorca Rock Festival (Spain)."

This year will have an awesome vibe as usual I'm sure!"

"By October we'll have a new studio recording released worldwide, and the set we do at Loud Park '09 in Japan will reflect that of course! The title and full details of this album we've been making in somewhat secretive, or at least in a low key manner will be made official very soon...

"We are in the process of finalizing more shows in this part of the world (Australia has already been announced earlier this week). We'll be playing a few locations in the Far East that are new for Arch Enemy - we'll be confirming and announcing live shows over the next days/weeks."
