Former Nazareth Vocalist Passes Away
Dan McCafferty, the vocalist of Scottish hard rock/heavy metal legends Nazareth, has sadly died at the age of 76. A statement from bassist Pete Agnew reads as follows:
"Dan died at 12:40 today.
"This is the saddest announcement I ever had to make. Maryann and the family have lost a wonderful loving husband and father, I have lost my best friend and the world has lost one of the greatest singers who ever lived.
"Too upset to say anything more at this time."
McCafferty was with the band from 1968 to 2013, when his health forced him to retire. He co-wrote some of the band's most well known songs such as "Hair Of The Dog" and "Broken Down Angel" and also released three solo albums, "Dan McCafferty," "Into The Ring" and "Last Testament" in 1975, 1987 and 2019 respectively. It is difficult to sum up in few words the history and influence in the history of rock music that an act like Nazareth has had. Having celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2018 with the release of their 24th studio album, Tattooed On My Brain, the long-running UK hard rockers will enter their 54th year of existence in 2022 with the release of their 25th studio album, Surviving The Law. The lineup for Surviving The Law is the same as the previous release, consisting of Jimmy Murrison (longest serving guitarist in the band’s history), Lee Agnew (drummer since Darrel Sweet’s death in 1999), Pete Agnew (founding member, on bass) and vocalist Carl Sentance. Nazareth To Release New Album In April
Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the forthcoming release of ’Surviving The Law’, the brand new studio album by legendary Scottish rock band Nazareth. Out on 15th April, fans can get their first taste of new music from the record today with the release of a single and video for the song 'Strange Days'.
It is difficult to sum up in just a few words the influence of Nazareth in the history of rock. Having celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2018 with the release of ‘Tattooed On My Brain’ (their 24th album), ‘Surviving The Law’ continues the new chapter that started for the band with that album following the arrival of vocalist Carl Sentance, while the remainder of the group line-up also remains intact: Jimmy Murrison (longest serving guitarist in their history), Lee Agnew (drummer since Darrel Sweet’s death in 1999) and Pete Agnew (bassist and founding member).
After original singer Dan McCafferty had left Nazareth for health reasons in 2013, Sentance joined two years later (with the former frontman’s blessing) and the eventual release of the hard rocking ‘Tattooed On My Brain’ showed off a rejuvenated band with all their magic ingredients still in place. As with that record, ‘Surviving The Law’ has been produced by Yann Rouiller at Sub Station in their home town of Dunfermline, Scotland. It features songwriting by all four band members and proves that, 25 albums into their career, the fire of rock ’n' roll still burns as bright as ever. More...

Broken Hearts: An Ode To Anti-Love Metal
February 14th is a date that means different things to different people. For some, Valentine’s Day is that special occasion to show someone how much you care, while for others it’s an unfortunate reminder of just how long that unused condom has been stashed in your wallet. For every lucky gentleman who has found the lady he can sexually accost without fear of court mandated harassment classes, there’s that lonely soul who will spend Valentine’s Day with nothing but music out the speakers and a bottle of Jack.
No matter which side you fall on, heavy metal has got a song to match your mood and help you head bang through the gooiest of all the holidays.
Whether any given track is purposefully over the top and funny, depressing enough to make you pull out the eyeliner and candles, or just plain outright disturbing, metal is no stranger to the anti-love song. So for those of you will be spending Valentine’s Day alone, or just simply think the holiday is nothing more than a marketing ploy to sell chocolates and greeting cards, here’s a series of anti-love anthems to get you through the day.
For those who still have a heart and haven't devolved into extreme cynicism, you can also check out our companion listing of pro-love heavy metal music at this location.
Humorous
Metalunderground.com is no stranger to aberrant sexual behavior, as we have the honor of being home the infamous “I’d put my tongue in her butt” forum thread. The following, um, “tongue-in-cheek” songs are all dedicated to everyone who has ever contributed a post to that thread.
Whether 80’s glam rock parody/tribute act Steel Panther is singing love songs or anti-love songs is a matter of some debate. What could be more loving than each band member’s willingness to sleep with anything that moves, regardless of VD status? Take the particularly touching song “Turn Out The Lights,” in which we are informed that front man Michael Starr is in desperate need of some physical attention, even though his partner actively disgusts him. What’s a horny rock star to do? Look no further than the title for the answer:

Halloween II Soundtrack To Feature New Recordings
Following the success of Rob Zombie’s initial reinvention of John Carpenter’s smash cult horror film HALLOWEEN, which premiered number one at the box office breaking all Labor Day Weekend 2007 records, comes the sequel, HALLOWEEN II, hitting theatres nationwide on August 28, 2009 from Dimension Films.
With the enormously popular horror movie series back, writer-producer-director Rob Zombie, once again puts his own twisted twist on the soundtrack. "Halloween II – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" (Hip-O/UMe), set for release on August 25, 2009, and co-produced by Zombie, manages to bring together dialogue from the film as well as music from Motorhead, The Moody Blues, Scream (sans future member Dave Grohl), Rod Stewart, the MC5 and Foghat, alongside new psychobilly band Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures.
Zombie helmed 2007’s ninth installment in the HALLOWEEN franchise that began in 1978. HALLOWEEN II, which debuts August 28, picks up where HALLOWEEN left off, and focuses on the struggles of Laurie Strode (played by Scout Taylor-Compton) and killer Michael Myers (played by Tyler Mane).
The new recordings on "Halloween II – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" include “Transylvania Terror Train” and “Honky Tonk Halloween” from Captain Clegg and the Night Creatures, who appear in the film. The band’s leader, Jesse Dayton, an Austin, Texas-based singer-guitarist who has played with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson, was part of the duo Banjo & Sullivan that performed in Zombie’s 2005 flick The Devil’s Rejects and simultaneously released an album. Similarly, Rob Zombie Presents Captain Clegg And The Night Creatures (Stag/Zombie A Go Go) will be issued August 28.
Also new are “Laurie’s Theme” from John 5 produced by Bob Marlette, (Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne); “Nurse Killa” from score composer Tyler Bates (Watchmen, 300, Halloween, The Devil’s Rejects); and a cover of Nazareth’s 1976 hit “Love Hurts” from singer Nan Vernon, who covered “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and “Mr. Sandman” for HALLOWEEN.
