Fictional G.I. Joe Band Cold Slither Premiere Song

Cold Slither, the once-fictional metal band introduced in a 1985 episode of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, have returned with a second real-world single, “Knock ‘Em Dread.” The release comes as part of the 40th anniversary celebration of the original episode that birthed the concept.

Originally portrayed as a brainwashing musical act formed by the villainous Zartan and his gang of mercenaries, the Dreadnoks, the group has now been fully realized for a debut studio album. Production duties were handled by Gus Ríos (Gruesome, ex-Malevolent Creation).

Unlike the TV plotline, this new track doesn’t come packed with subliminal messages meant to manipulate minds for Cobra — just riffs, attitude, and nostalgia-laced heaviness.

This musical revival is part of a broader Cold Slither resurgence that includes:

- A limited edition action figure set headed to San Diego Comic-Con

- A one-shot comic book

- Additional tie-in content and surprises still to come

An animated music video for “Knock ‘Em Dread” — created by Costin Chioreanu — is available to watch below.

Gruesome Premiere New Single & Music Video

Death metal outfit Gruesome are set to return with their first new full-length in seven years, “Silent Echoes,” arriving June 06th through Relapse Records. To mark the occasion, the band have premiered a music video for the lead single “A Darkened Window,” directed by The C.O.I.N., both of which streaming via YouTube and Spotify for you now below.

“Silent Echoes” stands as a tribute to the late Sean Reinert, renowned for his drumming with Death and Cynic. Reinert had initially been slated to produce the album, having served as a close friend and mentor to Gruesome drummer Gus Rios.

In homage to his legacy, the band used the very snare drum Reinert played on Cynic’s seminal album “Focus” during the recording sessions. Those sessions were once again helmed by longtime collaborator Jarrett Pritchard.

The group shared the following thoughts on the track and what it represents for this next era: More...

Obituary Announces "Redneck Run III" Tour

Florida death metal legends Obituary has announced a headlining tour in the United States dubbed the "Redneck Run III" tour, which will kick off in March. Support on the trek will come from Gruesome and 200 Stab Wounds.

The band states: "It’s time to put away the leather jackets and boots, bust out the FlipFlops & TankTops and prepare yourself for an outrageously, awkward yet undeniably amazing evening that could possibly turn into the best night of your life.

"The Florida Boys are at it again and are firing up the RV, checking the brake lines and high tailing it out of town and heading your way…so breaking out the SunBlock and prepare to Rock!

"The EastCoast RedNeckRun III is about to go down and we need to know two things…who’s joining us and is the Beer Cold? Contrary to the Apollo-13-Mission, failure is an option and so are Shoes…but having a GodDamn GoodTime is a none of your money back guarantee!

"This isn’t Rocket Science nor have we ever claimed to be scientists or the smartest band in the world..we’re just thirsty, ready to jam and hope you are too. Where will WE see YOU?

"We’re just happier than a puppy with two peters to be headed back out on the road." More...

Former Death Members Form New Band, Left To Die

Left To Die is a new band featuring classic Death members Terry Butler (Obituary) and Rick Rozz (ex-Massacre), paired with Gruesome founders Matt Harvey (Exhumed) and Gus Rios (ex-Malevolent Creation). The Florida-based band is currently writing an EP and planning a summer US tour, performing the classic Leprosy album in its entirety, along with cuts from Scream Bloody Gore.

Terry Butler had this to say about how the band came together: “After the recent Chuck Tribute shows that Matt, Gus, and myself did, Rick posed the question, "Would anyone would want to see some Leprosy shows?" With a resounding “yes!” the masses had spoken. Matt & Gus threw their hats in immediately and in my opinion they were the only real choice to bring this thing to life!! Left To Die coming your way soon!!”

Rick Rozz added: “It’s going to be an absolute honor and pleasure to play these 34+ year-old songs on stage with Terry after all these years, along with the talents of Matt and Gus - it’s gonna be brutal!”

Matt Harvey and Gus Rios were both very excited about the project coming together. Harvey reflected, “When Gus and I started Gruesome as a Death tribute, we never thought that it would lead to us playing some of our favorite songs alongside the guys that recorded them, but here we are - and I couldn’t be more stoked!”

Gus went even further to say, “When Rick contacted me about his idea I was immediately on board, since Leprosy is not only my favorite Death album, but my favorite Death Metal album of all time! I’m very grateful and stoked that Terry and Matt were also on board - the metal will flow this summer!”

Gruesome Streaming Cover Of Death’s "Choke On It"

Death worshipping band Gruesome (Exhumed, etc.) premieres its cover version of "Choke On It", taken from the upcoming new EP "Fragments Of Psyche", which will be out March 31st on Relapse Records. Comments drummer Gus Rios:

"This is a true homage from apprentice to master for me! The idea was to reinterpret this song as if Sean Reinert had recorded it, though I’ve always been very vocal about my adoration of Bill Andrew‘s more simple but solid style, so obviously NO disrespect there! This is simply a fun reworking of what I consider to be one of the best tunes on Leprosy, and one that I thought would particularly lend itself well to some more complex grooves. Doing my best Bill/Reinert impersonation!"
