Metallica was first formed by Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, and future Megadeth member Dave Mustaine and Ron McGovney. They first played in L.A., but later found themselves at home playing in the San Francisco Bay area. The band later replaced Ron with Cliff Burton and Dave with Kirk Hammet as late as 1983.

On September 27, 1986, on the European leg of the Master of Puppets tour, Cliff Burton was killed in a bus accident in Sweden en route to their next show's location. Tragic as this event was, Metallica continued on and Cliff was replaced by Jason Newsted, who remained part of the band until 2001, when he finally annouced he would leave Metallica because of the damage he had done to his body touring and headbanging for fourteen years.

More than any other band, Metallica and their albums have been the yardstick with which to measure other heavy metal releases. Metallica practically defines "heavy metal" as a sub-genre of metal itself, although their music ranges from NWOBHM to Thrash in their earlier days. However, in the 1990s and beyond 2000, Metallica evolved a more mainstream sound, which helped them become a household name and the seventh biggest selling act in history.

So literally 70 meters away, we'll be set up to rock Caracas this Friday, March 12. Metallica Relocates Panama City Show

Metallica has issued the following statement about relocating their upcoming tour date in Panama City:

"The Panama City show moves indoors. We're having flashbacks . . . Puerto Rico, 1993 . . . wind, rain, more rain . . .shit, no show! So with that in mind, the show in Panama City on Monday, March 8 is being moved from Plaza Figali to Figali Convention Center, which is the indoor area at same complex. Our friendly meteorologists tell us that the weather there next week should be pretty wet, so we're moving inside now hoping to make it a much more pleasant experience for all of YOU. Of course if you have tickets to Plaza Figali, they will be honored at the Convention Center. And if you don't have tickets, what are you waiting for? They are available at Farmacias Metro, Extreme Planet and Hometek through Ticketplus.

A Decade Of Metal In Review

On the 31 Dec 1999, no planes came crashing out of the sky, nuclear bombs went off or microwave ovens tried to eat anyone. However, times were about to change and in the metal scene change was already well underway. Let us take a stroll through the decade in metal that was.

Many of the 90s big names like Emperor and Pantera prepared to give their last venomous scream dying off in the wake of ever diminishing interest in the metal scene that had plagued the 90s. Although nu-metal had already been pioneered by Korn, bands like Deftones, Disturbed, Mudvayne and Linkin Park all had breakout releases in 2000. More...
