Judas Priest And AC/DC Win Grammy Awards

Band Photo: Metallica (?)
Two of the biggest names in hard rock and heavy metal walked away with Grammy awards last night as British metal legends Judas Priest picked up the award for Best Metal Performance, beating Lamb Of God, Megadeth, Ministry and Slayer, with their song "Dissident Aggressor," taken from their live album, "A Touch Of Evil: Live." Australian based hard rockers AC/DC also scooped the prize for Best Hard Rock Performance for their song "War Machine," which appears on their most recent studio album, "Black Ice" and the forthcoming "Iron Man 2" soundtrack. They were able to beat Metallica, Alice In Chains, Nickelback and Linkin Park in their category.

I would have liked Ministry to have won the Metal Grammy but it was a long shot. With Megadeth it's a lose/lose situation as we'd either have to hear Mustaine going on about how they won and Metallica didn't or (what will probably happen later) Mustaine ranting about not winning again. I'm a massive Priest fan so I'm happy. Don't understand why people are moaning about AC/DC, surely it's better they won than Linkin Park or Nickelback?

Its the grammys folks, they ve been out of touch with metal all but maybe 1 or 2 years...them and the american music awards have always been biased and sh!tty....these bands are legendary but havent had a hit in 10 15 years? Not surprised at the outcome..should have been LOG and metallica

9. writes:
AC/DC deserved a grammy, like 20 years ago. War Machine is not even the best song on Black Ice. Judas Priest also deserved a grammy, like 20 years ago. Oh well, maybe Megadeth will win a grammy in 2021 for Holy Wars. Oh, and all you AC/DC and Priest bashers, get over yourselves, it aint like Jethro Tull won!
10. writes:
Ok, obviously MegaDeth should of won. Headcrusher was definitly one of the best songs this year. Slayer is one of my favorite bands(as is MegaDeth) but I can honestly say Endgame was better then World Painted Blood. I don't think Lamb of God even deserved to be nominated so I'm glad they didn't win. I think while Judas Priest should'nt of won it... its still Priest so I really can't be mad
12. writes:
priest rules but i don't really agree with them winning this award, and alice in chains should have gotten best hard rock ac/dc is overrated, i kinda hope they take a note from the scorpions and retire while they're still on top. all of thier music pretty much sounds the same anyway i think angus writes one guitar riff for each album and just mixes up the chord sequence 13 different ways to make different tracks
13. writes:
im pretty much with oz on not having to listen to dave sh**stain even though im sure within the month we'll have some long paragraph to read about how he feels like menstrating all over his keyboard that day. i dont think it matters who won, no one i actually listen to on a regular basis will ever be nominated, so congrats to priest on this one.
16. writes:
i think it shouldda been log and aic but that's just me i guess. i'm happy for ac/dc, better than nicklefag and linkin fart, but still, i think alice in chains shouldda gotten this one. i'm mostly upset about priest winning, wtf?! is that song came out soo long ago then ytf did it win?? and how?? who judges this sh**?? it's a live f***ing album?! then y was it even there?? there were plenty of other metal songs that came it within this yr span that deserved to b nominated, mastodon being one band that shouldda been and LOG definitely shouldda won.

To n0thing and everyone else who is having issues with this: May I remind you that with the Grammy's they often go with the name of the band that is most familiar to them. This way they don't actually have to look or listen to anything in order to make their pick. This is why the Grammy's have always been a fvcking joke to me. Seriously, why else would Jethro Tull win the first year that a metal catagory was introduced? Is there ANYTHING about a flute that says metal to anyone?
21. writes:
ok "Oz", MegaDeth is one of the greatest bands ever. I know Dave Mustaine is a d*** but thats what makes him and MegaDeth so f***ing awesome. He's not gonna complain about loosing and if he won he should of bragged about MegaDeth winning and Metallica not. Metallica sucks now adays so why not rub it in their face's?
23. writes:
ThrashattheHeart: So... You're taking it upon yourself to "school" the man that wrote this article? Good luck with that. I also completely disagree with everything you wrote with the exception of Metallica sucks now (although I must point out that this has been the case since Cliff died).
n0thing: \m/\m/!!! Snot is running down his nose. lolz.

bg1: LOL!!
Also, I would like to add besides the grammy's being complete bullsh** and a f***ing joke, the only good things that happened last nite were pink's kool naked performance, beyonce's legs, miley cyrus starting to look hott (i can't wait for her to get slutty, hit rock bottom then get fat), lady gaga winning best dance album, and taylor swift winning album of the year!! \m/
p.s. black eyed peas and lil wayne piss me the f*** off.

I used to think Megadeth was the greatest band ever... for about three months. Then I got into Pantera, Slayer, Anthrax and from there Venom, Sepultura, Onslaught and so on and so forth. Mustaine complained last time Megadeth didn't win a Grammy so why wouldn't he this time? Especially since everyone has been saying what a good album he's done. Last time they were nominated he moaned about King Diamond being nominated too because King's album hadn't sold as much as them.

Jesus BG1, does your mouth ever get tired from sucking Oz's stank D? I mean come on man.
As far as the Grammys go, it has been well know that they are worthless when it comes to the Metal category. This was established when Tull won over the Metallica. Nuf' said.

36. writes:
Love both bands, but neither of them deserved to win. Alice in Chains should've won Best Hard Rock not only because of all that they've been through, but because they also had a better song. And Megadeth of Lamb of God should've won Best Metal because not only were their songs better, but also they weren't from f***in' 1977. STAY METAL MY FRIENDS!
37. writes:
Dis is def sum fu**ed up news. I thnk Slayer or LOG should've won dat 1. No disrespect but da song by JP is mad old. AC/DC is not wht they used 2 b, they've gone mainstream/commercial & I thnk they're sell-outs if u ask me. I regret buying that album. AIC should've won. Their new album was better thn wht I expected. As far as Megadeth is concerned, if Mustaine stopped complaining/b**ching so much, I would've probably rooted 4 them. Lol!! I wish Cannibal Corpse was nominated or perhaps win a grammy (yea rite, never in a 1000 yrs...I don't thnk they're ready 4 dat 1).
38. writes:
Well, I am pleased with how it turned out. Priest and AC/DC were both my second picks in each of the categories. I think Alice in Chains and MEgadeth should have won. But seeing as they didn't AC/DC and Judas Priest were my second choices. Ministry I am not too much of a fan of, so I didn't care for them much, World Painted Blood was, in my opinion, one of the worst songs off the album and the Lamb of God tune wasn't as strong as Headcrusher or Dissident Aggressor. Once again, it's all opinion. Then when it comes to Hard Rock, Alice in Chains should have won, but seeing as they didn't anyone but Linkin Park or Nickleback was good by me. :] /,,/

Do they even show the rock/heavy metal awards being given on tv anymore? It always seems like if an old well known act puts an album out then they get the nod because of who they are. Just like when someone dies they seem to be much more likely to get an award just because of it. Whatever, who cares about the grammys anyway??

42. writes:
most of you people need to get a life without judas priest their would be no heavy metal. lamb of god are redneck a$$holes. ministry is punk metal, megadeth is great but im tired of mustain b****ing about what could have been. judas priest deserved it they are heavy metal. black sabbath is dead. so judas priest are the current gods of metal. im tired of all the homophobic judas priest bashers go back to the church you got molested from
44. writes:
Yeah, Cynic, Alice In Chains definitely deserved that one. Can't complain about recognizing Judas Priest and AC/DC, but it couldn't sound any more like they picked them just by name/legacy, as neither of their latest works were their best or hold a candle to some of their competition. But this wasn't a RNR Hall of Fame nomination, so people have a right to be outraged. I simply don't give a sh** though, as I'm sure many metalheads don't.

50. writes:
So it was written and recorded 1977 - the performance was recent! It is, after all, "best heavy metal performance." Priest deserved it. Dissident Aggressor is not simply one of Priest's best songs; it's one of the best heavy metal compositions ever. Metal owes a great debt to Priest and to that song. The performance on Live Evil kills.

DB: what ever happened to the whole metal awards, the golden gods awards, if u know? it sounded pretty awesome, and i know it pass alrdy like a long time ago, but was it successful enough to continue annually?? and what were the categories in that?? and if so, who won?? lol sorry, but i'm just rlly curious to know.
if anyone else knows anything, please feel free to respond too \m/

What s funny to me about the ac/dc award is metallica usually wins a grammy, theyve made crappy albums since master of puppets, they finally (to me) made a very good lp in death magnetic.....and they lose......unbelieveable
GG awards werent that much better, but it was their 1st year,
^OZ i luv the royal familiy dont get me wrong, but on the local news here in so calif, ive must have seen that prince harry eating sh!t off his polo horse atleast 30 times in 3 days.... UK im sure gets an OD of that as well but damn....harry s the man though, he s a riot but also he s got balls...

@ Cynic : We don't have metal hammer or kerrang in our country. The only international magazines we get are Blender and Rollingstone (and we all know how crappy they are). Apart from that we just have a few national magazines but they focus more on home grown talent and some of the big names in metal.
But, I'm sure Oz is at it already. He'll come up wid something............... Atleast something worth arguing ;-)

cynic: OH!! that's what db meant in 52?? 0.o kuz he left me like "wtf??" lol kuz that's NOT what i was talking about. i say asking about the metal awards show that occurred last yr with a sh**load lengendary of metal bands and sh** plus others that were nominated for stuff, i'm just assuming... look, i just looked it up... this is what i was talking about...
http://www.goldengodsawards.com/
^^^THAT DB lol sorry for the confusion bro. i'm just asking kuz idk who won or anything else about it for that matter. and if there's gonna b another one.
and while on the subject of that list DMS mentioned, can any official MU members participate in the decision process of the winners for each category??

first of all........judas priest and ac/dc won the grammys with a couple of incredibly lame songs compared to what they created in their glory days.........second of all, these two bands are so legendary that they ABSOLUTELY DESERVE the grammys given them, despite the fact that they are not new bands with new sounds.........let's remember that most of these new bands grew up rocking out to priest and ac/dc and owe them an incredible debt of gratitude.........
65. writes:
^ Buddy this is Priest's best song no questions asked...well...personally. But I also know it's a fan favourite, and my only problem with it is that it has been for the better of 45 years. AC/DC are an amazing band (not musically though lol) and deserve credit for that, but they have got all the credit and then some that they deserve. I've seen AC/DC, Lamb of God, and Alice in Chains all in the past one maybe two years in Toronto, and AC/DC was...i hate to say it...the least exciting of the three.
I think they deserve all the credit in the world for their past achievements, but i thought even the Grammys would recognise that it's time to move on recognise some younger talent.

I would like to congratulate Rob, Glen, KK and Judas Priest for the Grammy win this year.
Better luck next year, right?

DMS: I'm not a MegaDeth hater, i'm a Dave Cumstain hater. I've been a fan of the music since the early 80's, seen them countless times and actually met Dave when he was strung out on heroin and drunk on vodka. The music (for the most part) is good, but lets face it... Dave is d!ck.

Angus Young Decapitated in Weeklong Challenge Versus Energizer Bunny
By Victor Vittiriti
SYDNEY—After almost a week of headbanging and shaking his torso like a complete maniac, Angus Young, guitarist for the legendary rock band, AC/DC, literally lost his head as it snapped off during a competition with the Energizer Bunny. Witnesses were horrified as the head went flying into the crowd, landing at the feet... »

You're all a bunch of b****es! Shut the f*** up! While I wish that AIC, LoG and/or 'Deth would have won, I'm glad that FINALLY AC/DC and Priest were finally recognized after all these years. The early masters of the past showing the current masters of the present and future of metal how it's done.

Hey Nothinghead: The Golden God awards are an annual heavy metal awards show, I don't think it's organized by a specific group (could be wrong) but it's normally sponsored by a mag like Metal Hammer.
To your other question, only MU staff vote on our best of but you'll be free to post your thoughts underneath as usual :)

I am a massive Priest fan and hey, I am happy for them b/c I bet they appreciate winning a Grammy after all these years. However, DA is a 30+ year old song that was performed live. I find it strange and well, buggered up that it was in competition against songs written in the current year. The Grammys have and always will be out to lunch when it comes to our music genre. They sh!it the bed when Jethro Tull won n' have never looked back. I rarely watch a minute of the show anymore. Could you imagine how insanely kewl it would be to see today's metal bands on the show AND on stage performing and/or accepting a grammy? Alas, the hate is still strong as ever against metal. On the grammiess, you can see a whacked out chick singing about taking a ride on a disco stick but you cannot watch a few long haired men headbang to the wonderful sound of MOFO METAL!

RTB: naw i wish bro lol that's funny about the suicide silence thing. now u mentioning it, i don't understand it either. at all. i've seen them before and they were NOT bad for deathcore. but, that's it. nothing THAT too special imo and obviously in urs too. well i'm just about getting psyched up to get rdy for DEVILDRIVER!!! it'll b my 1st time seeing them.
they pray for villains when their heroes let them down \m/

This is so crazy. Judas Priest, no doubt, gods of metal. Currently one of the biggest, if not the biggest, metal band in the world still performing today. But COME ON. That song is before they were actually metal in the first place! I think Lamb of God should have won this award for "Set to Fail", though I do think that "Reclamation" was the best, and most METAL, song on Wrath. I will say this about Wrath though... Lamb of God is no doubt my favorite band of all time. Been a fan since Gospel, BUT Wrath is just... ugh, in my opinion the worst LoG album to date. But it is a Lamb of God album, nonetheless, so it still rocks. I think Mastodon should have been nominated, and I know I'll catch flack for this, but the fictional band Dethklok (from [adult swim]'s Metalocalypse) should have been nominated too. The Dethalbum II was brutal! Oh well, I guess I've made my point. Screw Priest. LAMB OF GOD RULES!
