Israeli Metallica Fans Boycott The Band's Concert At The Ramat Gan Stadium

The previously announced Metallica concert at the Ramat Gan stadium in Israel has been met with an angered response from the country's metal fans, who feel that the ticket prices are ludicrously overpriced. Producer Marcel Avram is charging fans 600 shekel (around $159) for the cheapest seats and twice that amount for floor seats. Fans have expressed their outrage over social networking sites such as Facebook and many are refusing to buy tickets unless the price is dropped.

2.5 hour cab ride > 2.5 hour metallica concert?
If it costs too much, don't go. Either they'll find other people to buy the tickets or they'll lower the price. It's economics. I've missed plenty of shows because I didn't think they were worth what they were charging.

Having been to Israel and checked out ticket prices for many gigs I can tell you that $159 is absolutely, horrendously, insanely expensive. Given the current value of the shekel and the comparative cost of living/usual cost of gigs I'd say the equivalent would be paying over $250 for a gig in the US.
I'd agree with comments, though. If it's too expensive, vote with your wallet. Keep your cash. The sad thing is that there will be enough diehards or those who've not had a chance to see the band before to fill the place.

one point of reference is that AC/DC was charging almost $80 for nosebleeds in my area so in all honesty the prices seem to be market value

And yet Slayer and Megadeth sell tickets for discounted prices. This only further proves that Lars Ulrich is exactly the greedy a$$hole that people say he is. The Middle East is putting out a lot of great regional stuff like Orphaned Land, Wasted Land, Tyrant Throne, Bet Zefer, Davor Davorath and Nervecell. The Middle East doesn't need Metallica.
$150 is pretty standard for a concert here in Australia. ACDC was 150 last week, all our festivals are around the same amount. Some musicians charge $200+ for tickets here.
At least everywhere else gets heaps of bands touring so you can choose which one is worth it. Metallica aren't even touring here for their Death Magnetic tour. (well it hasnt been announced as yet).....

As a jew, and having visited Israel, I can tell you that the standard living in there is high. Furthermore, Israeli's do not get paid that much. Also, I'm pretty sure that the band themselves have no say in the matter of their prices (or very little), it is now there management.

Two things - 1. I doubt Metallica as a band has very much (or any say) as to what ticket prices will be. 2. Flying the biggest band in the world to a country for a show is not the same as a smaller band driving around America in a van, and costs a load more.

There's a lot of places around the world where a Metallica show or any show for that matter will cost A LOT. I have a few friends in Peru who pretty much have to be extra decisive on what concert they go to because tickets are insanely high so they can only go to concerts yearly.
So really I think it's the place, not so much the band.
Although, I know the band (when I say band, I mean LARS) can get pretty ridiculous.

I wanted to go see Slayer last year in London, £37 ( $55 ) for three bands? Bollocks to that! I went to the HIghbury Garage and saw Malefice ( from Reading ) instead for £12, much better value and much more fun!

I'm from Israel, and we had a lot of bands come over to play here. No other band asked for an ammount that was even close to what Metallica are asking. Megadeth, Machinhead, Down, kreator, Faith No More, and lots of other bands, all of these bands asked for something around 60$. Behemoth, Paradise Lost, Mayhem, Korpiklani asked for 40$-50$, Lamb Of God are playing 8 days before Metallica and they asked for 60$. NIN were the most expensive and the tickets were 90$. so enough with that sh** about not being able to get here on a bus. We had enough concerts and bands coming over from the states and neither of them have had the audacity to charge that much. F**ck Metallica and f**ck the nazi f***tard above me.

Sorry I missed some of those. I wouldn't say post 11 is meant to be racist, though it can certainly be perceived that way. Something to point out though would be that Wilco also stated in the forums that he was angry about someone posting about Hitler and killing Jews, didn't know what he was talking about until your post, but if he meant to be racist or anti-semitic, he wouldn't have been upset about that.

Man Metallica does it again haha, in Toronto it was a tiny bit more then that and the tickets sold out before i could even check. As #8 said though, if Christmas was 13 days long and I had as many relatives as they do, I'd be broke too hahahahah.

that is ridiculous... 600 shekel is way too much... To put this in perspective, it cost me 600 shekel to get from tel-aviv to Tiberious via a cab ride.... The cab ride was 2.5 hours long!
