Megadeth Parts Company With Roadrunner Records

In a brief message posted on the social networking website, Twitter, American thrash metal legends Megadeth announced that they have parted company with Roadrunner Records. The message reads as follows:
"Today marks the end of an era with Roadrunner. Hopefully we can finish strong with a Grammy."
The band has been with Roadrunner since the release of the 2007 album, "United Abomination" and then went to release two more studio albums through the label, "Endgame" in 2009 and last year's "Thirteen," the latter of which has earned a Grammy nomination for the song, "Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)"

Who cares that Megadeth changed labels. Yeah, I agree...Dave should have had his own label years ago. I still can't get over that he re-recorded the MD.45 album with his own vocals in place of Lee's. What a slap in the face to one of the greatest punk frontmen ever. I mean, personally, I didn't really like Lee's vocals on the MD.45 album, but I don't think he should've been able to go do that. I don't know if it really made the album any better, but his reasons were total bullsh**. He said that Lee's vocals turned away Megadeth fans that missed out on an otherwise awesome album. I don't agree. But yeah, Dave should have had his own label a long time ago. If he keeps up his politics, he'll have problems finding one that wants to work with him. Jerk.

@Cynic...very good. :)
@Coldiem...what a slap in the face that would be.
I don't think Megadave's Christianized ego could handle such an insult...but it would be funny.
Either that or I'd LOVE to see Met offer Winger a contract.
Reb Beach would probably drop from a coronary right there LMAO.

LOL Coldiem... classic! But what if...
I never really understood Megadeth signing with Roadrunner in the first place, not to mention Dream Theater or especially Rush (?!).
Definitely the right move by Megadeth.
They have a loyal fanbase, they know what makes Megadeth tick on and off stage, they know who to work with in the studio, what do they need a middleman for?

I get the impression that Roadrunner is in serious financial trouble... Their entire European framework was disolved from what I gather. The high times of Nickleback and Slipknot cds reliably selling millions are long over.
Besides, Megadeth are a sloppy, comical, disasterous ruin of their former greatness anyway. RR will be better off.

Considering he doesn't want to play on the same bill as bands who don't share his views, I doubt he'd want to be involved with distributing their records. Frankly, given his lust for commercial success, I can only see Mustaine forming his own label after he gets knocked back from any major label he approaches.

Someone will pick up Megadeth. They're a huge act with a massive install base. There's a good chance that whomever Mega-Dave signs on with will be a lesser player than RR though.
Anyone who signs onto a hypothetical Mega-Dave label will likely be Christian conservative nationalists. Pagans, Satanists, atheists and liberals clearly upset his I-found-God-after-addiction worldview.

I think it’s embarrassing that out of the big four Slayer still has a major label, Metallica has started their own,
Thrax is on Nuclear Blast and I think that’s where Megadave will end up.
Not that NB is a bad label to be with but back in the early 90’s when the big four was solidified Slayer was ALWAYS the underdog of the four and as it turns out they pretty much have the #2 slot now and have for a long time.
As far as musical integrity Slayer, despite the AC/DC comparisons (releasing the same album over and over)…Slayer is in the #1 spot easily.
As for Dave’s religious views…I couldn’t care less but don’t call yourself a born again Xtian when money/fame is clearly your god.
Such hypocrisy from the man who wrote Take No Prisoners….to the douche that stands before us now beating the conservative/Xtian war drum.

Considering what a control freak Mustaine is plus the timing with Metallica announcing their label, I'm sure Mustaine and Co will start their own label as well.
If not, I agree with BrianMN, its' Nuclear Blast, possibly E1 Music, as that's where Zakk Wylde went when he had enough of the RR... I mean when the RR relationship didn't work out.
RM, by the way, what makes you think RR is in financial trouble?
Not that I know any better, just asking ;)
Cos I'd imagine they're doing great, thanks to Nickelback, Slipknot, Megadeth, Soulfly, Trivium, the Sepultura catalog etc.

I seem to recall a steady stream of headlines about acts being cut from RR or leaving them over the last couple years. The British and Canadian branches of RR were shuttered or very nearly so, with major cuts domestically and worldwide. For better or worse, Warner bought them out. I don't expect RR to be vanishing but I think the fat times of yesteryear are over.

heh, indeed...killing good evil/bad bands would be his business...and business I imagine would be good after he hooked all them poor suckers in mouth no?
Seriously, why not challenge all the wicked ones out there to a musical holy war for world domination, red fang style?
then he could straight up show all them insidious heathens that you cant sellout and chase goddamned pop trophies without the Good Lords blessing, and the light of the sweet baby jesus' in your heart eh? )

If RR play their cards right they'll be fine. Megadeth are something of a terminally ill cash cow anyway. Better to bring down the sledge hammer now rather than later.
Many of the bands I cut my teeth on like Type O, Fear Factory, Glassjaw, Cynic, Death, Slipknot and favorites like Porcupine Tree and Opeth are on RR. I hope they get a better hand in the years to come.

How come megadave does not have his own label?
Kind of shocked by that.
