Avenged Sevenfold Enters The Recording Studio With Mike Portnoy

Band Photo: Avenged Sevenfold (?)
Avenged Sevenfold has issued the following update about entering the recording studio with Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater:
"I want our fans to know that with Jimmy in our hearts, our journey to record has officially began. Jimmy helped leave this world an amazing gift and now it's our job to make sure to deliver that gift to our fans. We asked Jimmy's all time favorite drummer Mike Portnoy to record on behalf of him. Mike said it would be an honor and without question that’s what Jim would have wanted. Its comforting to us that someone like Mike, who is undoubtedly revered as one of the best drummers in the world, held such respect and adoration for the Rev's abilities.
"Even though it will never be the same without our brother by our side, his essence lives in our hearts and through the music he helped create. He was a legend before any of the success or any of that bullshit and we are fucking excited to lay this down for our fans, and especially for Jimmy."
Avenged Sevenfold drummer James "The Rev" Sullivan passed away late last year, found dead in his home on December 28, 2009.

I'm definitely not a fan of A7X and probably never will be, but I must say that Mike Portnoy is a really great guy for doing this. I've seen him a few times and he's a really nice cool guy and an awesome drummer. It's cool to know the guy's favorite drummer is going to record as a respect to him.

I would also like to say something to #4 livingDeaDbeat00. You're f***in gorgeous. I read your bio and you seem cool as hell. If you lived in the Chicago area, I guarantee I would see at a metal show cuz that's mostly what I do. Like you, I love Metallica, Trivium, In Flames, and Children of Bodom. Amon Amarth and Goatwhore are good as well and my friend has gotten me into Lazarus A.D. KEEP IT METAL!

#7, this isn't high school at lunch time. This is a forum, please keep it on topic. If you have the hots for her that's fine, but she's provided contact information on her profile so use that privately will you? Thanks.
I'm looking forward to giving this album a listen. I preferred their latest album to the one previous to it. They're actually really talented guys. Other than the way they act and carry themselves I respect the material they've released.

Fine, I took it too far calling it a piece of sh**, I definitely rocked out to it when it first dropped. I guess compared to what I'm into now they just sound so precious, you know?
Not to sound elitist but I have a hard time paying attention to a$$ clowns who don't bother becoming a member but try (and fail) to insult someone. Just sayin.
#7: Let's date.

f***in Mike Portnoy what a legend I bet Jimmy would be so prud. It shows the respect that Portnoy has for Avenged, and Portnoy being one of my favourite drummers all time and easily at the top of the list right now, shows that Avenged should get a little more redit then they get bby a community like this, like all the people who sh** on them in the post about Jimmy dying lol.
And dayuumn METAL123s got wheels haha.

Whoa...I think MU is getting soft... :)
I'll finally admit it...I love their last album, its just one of those that I can listen to the whole thing multiple times over and not get bored of.
I was pretty sad about The Rev and I so I think its great they're still going to do the album.

City of Evil was my favorite album...beast and the harlot is just ridiculous - *esp the drumming*
and altho i can totally appreciate a band moving fwd and not regurgitating the same album every time i'd love to hear CoE part 2 just so they don't move fwd in the *wrong* direction...which they kinda already have :(
people give them crap for seize the day but what i blew my mind was seeing synyster gates in a good charlotte video. lame.

"seize the day" was a great song and video. i would hae to say i like their newer material in which they sing, as opposed to their older material in which they scream. let's hope the new album continues to push the envelope for A7X. i am sure this is what the rev wants........

Also, to Esoteric Surgery. First off, I must say that I love that you're memeber name is a Gojira song as they've become one my favorite bands of the past year. Second off, I did leave my opinion on the subject before my shoutout to ldb00. I will say that I liked your high school lunchtime comment. I gotta give credit where credit is due. KEEP IT METAL fellow Gojira fan

Right, Mike Portney is probably the best drummer out there, and it'll be interesting to see what happens with him and A7X.
BUT, A7X worked sooooo so well as a group, they were almost made for eachother. The Rev had a totally Unique style and i loved it, A7X won't sound the same without him.
Before this was published though, if A7X were to get a new drummer, then Mike Portney would have been my first choice, and thats exactly what's happened, so lets see.

rlly kool of mike p. to b doing that. but am i the only one thinking that it'll sound kinda weird for his drumming style to b mixed in w/ a7x?? whatever, let's see how it all goes down, shall we?
livingDeadBeat: LOL at #42. awesome.
BG1: i resent that statement (#40), i get on MU on my iPhone sometimes, kuz i just can't get enough of it!! lol and i think i speak my own language here pretty well. even tho, i did fail english class once, which i thought was unpossible. lol ;)

I don't like these guys... I can't judge the old stuff as I haven't ehard of it, but I think their last album was over-rated, commercial garabage. I don't see what Portnoy could see in them... Like someone earlier mentioned, I could understand a track or something out of respect... But the whole album? I hope that his drumming helps improve their over all sound.

Portnoy is a f***ing amazing drummer who will experiment with his style, so I guess he noticed the guts it took for Avenged to screw with their style so much and still come out with a universally accepted album. If you havent checked out their old stuff I personally enjoy it more, its much heavier.

no drummer could help improve their sound to be better than if they just stopped making this rubbish they label metal. seriously f***ing kill em all! and if you call yourself a metal head and support these guys... i hope to see you in the mosh pit some day. although i doubt a 7x fan would have balls enough to come at me in a mosh pt.

Agent, keep talking yourself up on the internet, it may just make you feel good about yourself. You are the filthy type that talk big on the internet, but when it comes to reality, everyone s**ts all over you. Run at anyone in a mosh and you would get pulverised. Talking yourself up on the internet is like running in the special olympics: no matter what you do, the reality is that you are still retarded. And I'm very glad a7x are back, heres hoping the album is out soon. RIP Rev \m/

NOOB, you do a great job at profiling an 7x fan, not many people are that honest i am impressed. because of that maybe you are not as dumb as your internet alterego. you should realize some people are still real on the web. but as you grow a little older and get out of these teeny bopper girl bands you may come to understand one way or another everythign we do and say represents some aspect of our real self. think carefully before responding.

Valentine, agreed about the dragonforce take....no offence dude, but you ve been catching alot sh!t here lately....and i appreciate it because ive been lmao'n the past few days to it...hang in there, btw i like the corey taylor pic...reminds me when slipknot to me was one of the greatest things in the world....RIP Knot 99-03, still to this day, best live band and show i ve ever seen...knot 99 tatoo the earth, 01 pledge of allegance tour
(04-present day to me...they sold out in every way)

#79, I agree with you 75% about Slipknot. Best live band/show I've ever seen. They're just as passionate about performing for their fans as any other band I've seen and the hydraulics with Joey flipping upside down is just awesome! Not to mention The percussionists on hydro's too lol crazy mofo's. I don't agree with the statement about them selling out, but that's just my opinion. I feel like they just really wanted to expand and explore new territory. Unfortunately most of their fans don't appreciate slower tunes and would've preferred that Corey keep that sort of thing to his side projects. Fair enough though. \m/

Hehe, I took the time to read the whole conversation of some people in here, kinda funny, you should try. But anyway:
I thought that A7x was douchebaggy too. But then I saw their 'Making of Avenged Sevenfold Album.' Now THAT made me respect Avenged Sevenfold so incredibly much.
There you see the aren't just awesome artists, they have a nice sense of humor, they are bunch of kind dudes. And yeah they say f*** You alot. Cause they can.
All of this was my OPINION. So you dont have to yell at me. They didn't make 2 sepperate words for nothing: Fact and Oppinion.
