Children of Bodom's Alexi Laiho Breaks Arm On Tour

Band Photo: Children of Bodom (?)
Children of Bodom's official fansite Scythes of Bodom has issued the following statement about Alexi Laiho breaking his arm:
"Oops!... I did it again
"In the middle of Children Of Bodom's current North American tour with Lamb of God, Alexi's well-known tendency to break bones has struck again. In his latest twitter update, K-Man reports that the Wildchild has broken his arm after falling from his top bunk. Apparently Alexi is still able to perform but he's having to take strong painkillers and to wear a sling when he's not playing. Rock 'n' roll or what! Let's hope the break heals quickly."

I'm not a big fan but I've never had anything against Bodom (other than the flashy synths being a bit too high in the mix). The main reason I'm catching them is that they're sharing a bill with LOG and Municipal Waste. God Forbid and and Children of Bodom are just icing on the cake, as I hear they both put on a mean show. As I Lay Dying is the only band I'd rather pass on.

Yeah personally I skipped God Forbid and Municipal waste only because I listened to them way to much and was practically burned out by the time they got here. LOG and Bodom were awesome though. I personally hate As I Lay Dying, but they opened with the song "94 Hours" which rocked the place. Definitely worth the 40 bucks for tickets though.
18. writes:
Honestly i HATE alot of As i Lay Dyings lyrics and alot of they're fans are real into the "scene" but they can rock sh** sh*t out of a place man, they're intensity personified live, so trust me you wont be disappointed. Not a fan of God Forbid. I honestly dont know much about Municipal Waste, any suggestions? But yeah Alexi is amazing to watch do his thing live and the keyboards dont come through AS much live if you stay towards the front of the stage. And Lamb of God in f*cking Philadelphia...thats all i gotta say. someone will die. They had to add this 2nd show in Philly because the first one sold out in a matter of hours. Cant f*cking wait.

6^ haha....funny s**t.....AILD always gets s**t cause their lyrics arent evil or satanic enough, thats such crap, they are great live and their last 2 lps have been very good....as far as falling out of the top bunk and breaking your arm......thats the craziest sh** i ve heard in a while, but for him to keep playing thats dedication to your mates,...this is probably one of the biggest tours they ve been on and you dont wanna fahq up on a LOG tour or someone of that stature.......but props to him for showin some grit
23. writes:
People are allowed personal opinions right? All I'm saying is have you awards for your shredding?
MHD101: Hell yeah. Love it! I saw Bodon in February, they are awesome but it was the first time I've seen then live so I've got nothng to compare it to.

Just got back from the Chicago show. f***ING SICK.
Municipal Waste, Lamb and Children f***ed it up. I heard about 3 songs into lamb's set the medics on site were dealing with 4 unconscious kids.
But yea, Alexi still f***ing rocked out... it obviously wasnt as good as he usually is and was having trouble singing and running about like he does, but it was incredible seeing him play anyway.
btw I HATE HATE HATE AILD. They were the only band on the set that I was bored during. AND they came on right before Lamb. They're frighteningly popular though...
26. writes:
When i saw them in Dallas last sunday he said that he fell out of the top bunk the night before and that his collar bone was hurting and that he was sorry for not being active on stage. God forbid was ok. Municipal Waste was really fun. CoB still put on a really good show. As i Lay Dying was one of the best sets i've ever seen. I took an elbow and a headbut to my eye and it swelled shut in the pit. LoG was amazing as usual.

28. writes:
saw this show a couple weeks ago was sooooo f***in good. God Forbid were great openers, who really need more stage time. Municpal waste was meh ("this is a song about sharks" he says...), but as i lay dying, bodom & LoG were kick a$$ seen em all before & worth the price to see em all again!

"Broken Hands" is one of my favorites off the new LOG, good stuff. Anal is just being anal, heh. Don't mind him, he's good peeps.
The LOG/Children/Waste/Forbid show will be my first in many moons so I'm rather giddy. Should have a review posted later this week.
Now Playing: Nothing...I'm bloody hungover and music of any kind is a bad idea....

I'm sorry for not showing respect to this extraordinary shredding skills, just because he got a prize from metal hammer which is like the worst metal magazine ever, all themusic is commercial sh**,emo or erm deathcore. congrats alexi you are the best musician ever even with one hand
36. writes:
the guy from trivium got some prizes aswell that doesn't make him a great musician.
metal hammer gave bullet for my valentine a prize for being the best brittish band when they could give it to napalm death, benediction, carcass,my dying bride, anathema, paradise lost not mentioning iron maiden so i guess prizes don't really make a good artist/musician/band :P
plus bodom were around for like 16 years without any major succes i think that shows a bit how good they are ;)

40. writes:
Minicipal waste was terrible, God Forbid was good...AILD was better still... COB I found was more entertaining to watch but AILD got the pit moving more.. and then Randy came and took the house down. Such a good tour I'd recommend it to any metal fan out there. Yes, even AILD. get over it, they can rock the stage.
42. writes:
Maybe but you're forgetting something called talent. You can't say he doesn't have talent. Besides its nice to know that you're talent is recognised, of course you don't need the awards but its good to know that people appreciate it. People who think they're great are often egotistical, selfish a$$holes who aren't actually that talented.

45. writes:
Hmmmm Well I'm both a fan of Megadeth and Children of Bodom. And I think they are both great guitarists but you certainly can't compare. Yes they both fall under the Metal category, but they are different metals.
Megadeth is considered thrash metal, speed metal, and heavy metal where as Children of Bodom is considered melodic death metal and power metal.
And certainly both guys have major talent.
47. writes:
Well now its all down to personal opinion. I mean I'd give Alexi Laiho an award over Mustaine but I don't actually play guitar at all so I don't suppose I'd really know how to write riffs and licks...
I play drums so...
I agree that they both have talent.
NP: Angel of Death- Slayer
49. writes:
Except you don't know what a decent "ax man" can do because you don't play guitar....Nevermind that about 80% of Megadeths good work was done by the other members of the band (Including the various guitar virtuosos Dave has come in contact with i.e. Chris Poland, Chris Broderick, Jeff Loomis, Marty Friedman and young.

as a person that listens to slipknot i would never say that they are extremely good guitarists.
well when alexi records a song like "symphony of destruction" i will bow my head and admit that he is a "shredding god"
and if he was better than Mustaine then they would not be opening for slipknot and machine head but headlining.
COB being melodic death metal ??? that's what wikipedia says can't agree with that, melodic death metal is last two deicide albums :D
54. writes:
"if he was better than Mustaine then they would not be opening for slipknot and machine head but headlining."
Seriously? I saw Skeletonwitch open for The Red Chord and JFAC and they smoked them both in all musical facets. Where a band plays during a show is not necassarily an indication of how good they are relative to the other bands.
As for the Laiho v. Mustaine debate, i think they've both been better :P
now playing: dio - killing the dragon
55. writes:
I totally agree with you, Terminator, on both counts.
My favourite Bodom album is Hate Crew Deathroll but I think that there are some really good songs on both Are You Dead Yet? And Blooddrunk.
Also about not headlining, Bodom aren't as well known as Slipknot and Machine Head.
NP: War Pigs- Black Sabbath

61. writes:
Well, I have to say, to some degree, it's fairly absurd to compare Laiho and Mustaine. They try doing completely different things in their music. I'm sure Laiho could play Symphony and I'm just as sure Mustaine could play Triple Corpse Hammerblow. Could either write those songs? No, because writing is a totally different experience from playing another person's song. One you're conveying yourself any way you see fit, the other you're portraying another person through your playing.
As far as classifying Bodom, power-death is the best fit in my opinion.
62. writes:
Very good I do definitely agree with DeathInEye. . . . And yea maybe the best fit for COB IS power-death.
To comment 65, in my opinion, I do think COB is worthwhile. I think they do have great music; I'm a huge fan of theirs. I think HATEBREEDER is one of their best stuff. Hopefully you enjoy their music.
66. writes:
"Don't mind Bristowe, Bodom. He hates it when people have an opinion that do not go parallel to his. He has it in his head that you have to know how to play an insterment in order to know wether or not someone else that plays it is good, or not"
No I just have it in me to stick up for what I believe and use facts to support my opinions.
I wasn't talking to you Bodom (fyi). I'm talking about technicality in their guitar work. Not how it sounds. Alexi actually plays(ed) a unique arrangement of scales and modes, but Mustaine just shreds pentatonic over and over until it gets old, or he gets a new guitarist to switch it up. Picking every note doesn't make you awesome.
Oh yeah, I think we can all safely agree that Bloodrunk isn't worth anyones time. When I saw them live, it wasn't even worth Bodoms time.
67. writes:
Good choice of albums I'm sure you'll be pleased.
To comment 69 It will definitely be funny and absurd to compare Alexi with Chuck!
SHREDDER13 is most definitely right! Leprosy snd SBG have some the best riffs I've ever heard! And you gotta add Crystal Mountain to the list.
69. writes:
chuck is one of those guitarists that should only be prepared to Jimmy Page and Hendrix. He's in another league as far as both "shredding" and song construction and just general riffage goes.
Now,I'm not the biggest Bodom fan by any means, nothing really seems to catch my attention when I try and listen to them. BUT, from the bits I've heard, i want to say "industrial thrash with elements of death and power metal". i heard that being used to describe them once, and it seemed to fit from where my ears sit. Sort of like Strapping young lad, but with less of a random factor thrown in lol.
then again, like I said, dont listen to them, not familiar with their material, so I could be horribly mangling a description of their sound. :P
Now Playing: Metallica- ...and Justice for All

77. writes:
I agree with what SHREDDER13 says they are amazing live. I was gutted not to get a full show in London in February but some fvcker got beer over the mixing console and they couldn't play anymore!
I think there's a lot of opinions on what their genre should be, my personal favourite being melodic death metal but I'm sure they fit into loads.
On the Blooddrunk debate, I think there are a couple of good tracks on there. Two really stick out from the album (Blooddrunk and Banned From Heaven) both of them are incredible live in my own opinion but I still think its an album worth listening to.
Analguest: So we've gone from 'he's guitar playing is so bad he can even do it with a broken arm' to 'bodom are the greatest band in the world'... Mixed feelings much?!

I wonder if all the people here saying Alexi is just "OK" or "average" guitarist have actually seen the Chaos Ridden Years: Stockholm Knockout Live DVD? I never thought much about Alexi before Are You dead yet? or this DVD as there are plenty of nice tricks you can do to shred 'better' (lighter strings, sh**loads of compression / pre eq and distortion, which I kinda thought he ws going for) but gotta say, I was VERY impressed with Alexi on this DVD. If you guys can play better, I salute you and U should get signed!
79. writes:
"ok let's face it bodom are the greatest band in the world, the heaviest, fastests, with best melodied and riffs, vocals are f***ing cool and all you can do is just wonder why other people are so f***ing deaf and can't get it...."
Uhm... have you ever even heard of Wintersun? You should check them out atleast. Better in all aspects imo. Jari Mäenpää is def. the better guitarist between Laiho.
I do get sick of hearing Laiho is a god. He damn sure is a great guitarist but he isnt god. His best work is on the first 2 albums and his style was much closer to a Malsteem rip off then, atleast he has developed somewhat of a more original style since Follow The Reaper but the albums have progressively become more boring then the last since then.
"I will say that I am glad that Alexi is not canceling the tour due to a broken arm.
Unlike Jamie Josta at least he does have balls."
Apparently very fragile if he has done it to a point where they issue the news as "again" but atleast he's got them.
80. writes:
Jari Mäenpää is pretty wicked. But personally, as of late, I've grown REALLY irritated of sweep picking and it's various counterparts. It might just be the youtube generation that's killed it for me, but no one seems to use it properly (although Jari does a pretty wicked job of it).
Alexi was quite a Yngwie rip off, but I think Yngwie is amazing, so I can't really complain about it. Deadnight warrior rocks.
NP: Arch Enemy - Vultures (best solo in the world!!!)
81. writes:
bristowe - I've gotta agree with you, sweeping is over-rated and boring now. I used to listen to a lot of MAB, but now i'm more into soul shredding like Satch & Vai. Yngwie is great too...I like listening to some classical shredding like him & Kat.

I agree with you guys about how sweeping's become overused and stale. It's the latest trend in dethcore. When used to enhance or build a solo or used creatively I enjoy it. But I've grown tired of entire solos comprised of nothing but sweeping.
I'll have to check out both Poland's solo stuff and Corbin King.

ill admit this band has great musicians, but i never fell for the music. the keyboards kill it for me. i get a mortal kombat atmosphere sometimes when they play. i dont really bother to listen to much of their music, but i admit in a bed of razors or a song like that was the sh**!
87. writes:
I guess I can see what you guys are saying about Sweeping but it doesnt, yet atleast, bother me in the slightest. Jeff Loomis is a great guitarist as well, among the elite imo but sadly Nevermore, like Bodom and Megadeth, have almost all but faded into the list of bands I use to love and listen to regularly but hardly even pick up anymore. Although, unlike Bodom or Megadeth, Nevermore is beginning to comeback to me as I have begun to pick up Dead Heart, In A Dead World alot more regularly then I have in the past year or so. I guess I owe this to being a fan of prog music, while Nevermore isnt a prog band they do have some tendencies towards it.
89. writes:
i think i heard that song, but cant remember that much. they have thier "hits" and great songs. just when that keyboard comes in, it just kills it. it can be cheesy at times. but no disrespect. they all have thier distinct sound, but not for me. whats that famous one everyone probably heard that got them into them in the first place? final countdown i think
91. writes:
I, to a certain degree, enjoy the keys aswell BodomBeach but what gets me is how boring Laiho's voice is, how unoriginal his style is in what is the bands strongest and least boring written material, and the lack of lyrics any worthwhile lyrics. They are last minute jarble, lack any kind of profound meaning, and barely constitute as lyrics.
93. writes:
Bodom Beach - Thanks...there are others that I enjoy but those 3 are insane! Also...It's fairly obvious that Bodom would'nt be the same without Wirman's keyboard licks. Songs like Downfall,Mask of Sanity,Angels Don't Kill,Living Dead Beat,Hate Crew Deathroll,Tie My Rope etc,etc...prove my point.

I'll always be hooked on Nevermore. The live dvd with Loomis and Broderick was amazing. And I'm hoping and praying for a new Nevermore this fall. My tendency to ignore "Sweepng solos" probably comes from listening to Rusty Cooley for an entire Semester.

Haha, yeah CoB lyrics have always been garbage. What I found hilarious was while reading an interview (when alexi broke his arm the first time) he stated that "With me breaking my arm I've had a lot of time to really concentrate on the lyrics of the album" yet the album still ended up with the name "Are you Dead Yet....?"
98. writes:
"the keyboards kill it for me. i get a mortal kombat atmosphere sometimes when they play."
I do understand that. My bro has said that the keys make it sound like final fantasy music and to a certain degree I agree with him but I like that to a certain degree. If your going to make it that cheesy then there has to be a balance. You really cant have something that cheesy that much of a focus as Bodom does.

Well, what I was trying to say about Alexi is that he's definitely not just an OK or average guitarist. But he's no god either, I agree. As to what annoys me about CoB is Alexi's crap vocals (that same fake scream over and over again) and the crap lyrics. There's also something the keyboard stuff that sounds totally out of place. To me the keyboards on "Are you dead yet" sounded like they had the keyboardist from Europe (yes... the Final countdown band) doing a session with CoB (which is a collaboration Im not interested in..)

dude, if you cant feel the anger and hatred in the atmosphere and lyrics that randy puts in, i dont know where else you will find it. there aint a concert like a l.o.g one, you will go in peaceful and jolly with flowers in your hair. you'll leave with blood, torn garments, with a devils tail sticking out your ass. i havent heard anything as brutal and evil as lamb of god (not literally satanic), with the exception of meshuggah, (which is still no comparison as they are both completely different) there is nothing that can touch lamb of god man
116. writes:
^you havent been to a Goatwhore concert then. those guys tear sh** up. and the lead singer is hilarious. So far for me, them and Lamb of God put on the best small club shows. Lamb of God has them beat as far as big arena shows go though, simply because Goatwhore has never played a big arena before lol.
Now Playing: Slayer- Consfearacy

Sadly, and I weep to say this, I have yet to see Slayer. The one time they hit near me, I was completely broke, and none of my friends who went had enough money to help me out. I'm seeing them this mayhem festival coming up.
Deicide came to the culture room ONCE, and I didnt know about it until 2 days afte rhte concert had passed.
Converge has never hit Florida if my memory serves me right, not to mention I've only been listening to them for about a year now. though I plan to. Them and Dillinger are on the "Before I Die" list.
You also have to put into perspective that I'm only 19, and have only been a serious metalhead for about 2 or 3 of those years (I dont count my slipknot and Korn years as "Metal", I count it as "stepping-stone years") So the amount of bands that I want to see, that I have seen, is extremely limited.
I'm just saying, Goatwhore and Lamb of God are the only bands I've seen that have managed to stir the crowd up to the point that the entire floor, all the wayback into the bar, and then up to the door, becomes a mosh pit. When a band has the stage presence capable of breaking down the fight-or-flight reflex of every person in the club who shunned that particular bit of metal chaos, and makes that chaos the standard, that's when they impress me. Metalheads are a difficult and stubborn lot, and the band that can so easily tear down their conventions is a good one in my book.
Now Playing: Dimmu borgir- the Heretic Hammer

hey cool, age has no matter here, i'm 21 i still listen to slipknot not shy of that even though my favourite kind of music is brutal technical death metal.seen slipknot with machine head and COB last december in london , they played 3 sold out gigs and that was one of my favourite concerts ever even after few years they still make you want to jump or punch somebody.
my top 3 gigs would b behemoth, celtic frost and slayer at mystic festival in poland, then Nile while touring the annihilation of the wicked album and third would b mayhem or soulfly, both f***ing great while soulfly had that sepultura feeling mayhem delivered one of the most magical on atmospheric gigs ever.
i see you listen to dimmu, what's your favourite album ??

^right now, I'm still geeking out about In Sorte. I downloaded a couple songs off their earlier stuff, thought it was ok, but I bought In Sorte on a whim, and cant get enough of it. Other than that, the tracks I have off Enthrone Darkness get me goin pretty randy too.
The best concert I've been to, had to have been The absence, Skeletonwitch, Goatwhore, and Amon Amarth headlining. Not a single one of those bands are anywhere near my favorites, but the concert itself was just that great. I mentioned the Lamb of God with Machine Head and Gojira gig as one of my favorites because it was not only awesome all by itself because of the solid line-up, but it was also my first real metal concert, opening me up to everything I listen to today. third best had to be The Ozzfest freefest. Big Concerts are always great, but the line-up was killer.
(in order of how excited I was to see them)
Behemoth
Nile
Lamb of God
Devildriver
Ankla
Daath
3 Inches of Blood
Ozzy(of course)
Static-x
chthonic
hatebreed
black tide
LORDI <--f*** this band though
Not that many big name tours passs anywhere near me because I live on the tip of the p***s-state that is Florida, but i do go to a lot of local band concerts. The Florida death metal scene is legendary, and it's still going strong as far as I'm concerned. the bands are great, it's just the turnout of the crowd usually sits on the line where the word "meh" is associated. :P
