Devildriver Announces More Live Shows

California's Devildriver is preparing to hit the road one final time in North America in support of latest release "Beast." The tour is scheduled to kick off October 7th in Grand Junction, Colorado with a string of headlining dates before the band meets up with GWAR on October 12th in Philadelphia, PA to start the "Fate or Chaos" tour. Devildriver will also play select headline dates during off days of the tour with GWAR. A complete list of tour dates can be found below.

Frontman Dez Fafara commented on the upcoming tour with GWAR: "Devildriver was going to take some time off from our touring schedule in October and November, but when we were asked to support GWAR, it was a resounding YES in our Camp!

"The GWAR tour we did is still the most fun the band and I have ever had on a run and we are all excited and looking forward to these shows. Our crowds go together well and it will be Halloween Season so it seems appropriate and fitting we should be out on the road at this time and with a timeless act like The All Mighty GWAR! HAIL to the Devils Duo about to ride together again!"

Devildriver recently announced its signing to Napalm Records. Following this tour, the band will take some time off and will then head out for a European tour in February of 2013. Look for the band to be back with their new album and Napalm Records debut in 2014. More...

GWAR Announces New Tour Dates

Intergalactic Mutant Overlords GWAR are plotting their return to the road this fall. Taking a break from working on their new album as well as an extended arctic slumber, GWAR is back with an entirely new show. Your lords and masters will be wreaking havoc across North America, with support coming from DevilDriver, Cancer Bats, and Legacy of Disorder. The tour is currently scheduled to kick off October 12th in Philadelphia, PA and run through November 26th in Millvale, PA. More dates are expected to be added in the coming weeks. Tickets go on sale this Friday July 27th and Saturday July 28th.

When asked for comment on the upcoming tour, GWAR front-thing Oderus Urungus muttered something incoherent, then when prodded a bit more muttered something else incoherent. After the third attempt for comment something more intelligible came from the mouth of the warty one:

"Once again GWAR returns, hoof and nail, to our old stomping grounds, North America, on a tour of utter destruction, and this time nothing less than the greatest power in the universe will do as our primary victim! That's right, this time GWAR, fresh from our battle with Death, takes on another of history's biggest assholes...God himself! Seeing as we don't have the new album done yet, we really had to do something spectacular..."

Oderus belched out a midget and continued, "This tour will also see the arrival of a new Scumdog brother to aid GWAR in our quest to destroy everything that sucks. That's right, I can finally reveal certain details regarding our new album...ever since our missing band mate Flattus Maximus took his leave of Earth, members of the Maximus tribe have been showing up at our Antarctic fortress, not only to pay their respects but also eat all of our food. And also lay tracks on the new album! You see, every member of the Maximus family rips on guitar (though Flattus taught them all they know), and they were anxious to help us fill the void left by Flattus. We have been working with his brothers Pustulus, Infecticus, Bubonus and even the shunned Corpulus...and right now they are fighting it out as to which one of them will stay here with the mighty GWAR for the 'FATE OR CHAOS' Tour...and beyond! Get ready world, this fall shall see the birth of a new Scumdog!" More...

Dave Brockie To Write RPG Adventure

Dave Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus of GWAR, will be writing and illustrating (with the help of fellow Slave Pit artist Matt Maguire) the tabletop RPG adventure Towers Two as part of a Crowd Funding campaign for the "Lamentations of the Flame Princess" Weird Fantasy Role-Playing game.

The adventure will tell a story of insanity and dread: The mighty 'Towers Two' had stood as a symbol of stability and prosperity over a world that was increasingly slipping into chaos. But ever since the difficult birth of the identical twin brothers Rondrel and Zal, a shadow has fallen over the family and the land they had ruled for centuries. The brothers quarreled over the power they had inherited from their father, squandering their wealth, and sending the line into decay. The nearby village of Ham, once happy to call Towers Two and the Family Hune their protectors, now live in fear of the fortress and it inhabitants.

"I'm completely stoked to be doing this, and I really hope the crowd funding venture is successful, even though I waited to the last second to start promoting it," Brockie says. "I am an old-school DM, and ran custom adventures out of my worlds for over 20 years until the point where I felt we had committed every possible atrocity and wrenched every permutation out of the D+D system, which I really had abandoned anyway. I began to do horrible things to my players. One group wandered the Abyss for two years until they finally realized they were damned, even though I never told them. Out of boredom I ran a Lawful Good campaign of elves, just to kill them off with the worst monsters I could think of. We used to play on the tour bus all the time, but as GWAR started getting hotter groupies I finally got bored with it." More...

The GWAR-B-Q Is On

After months of paperwork, hoop-jumping, and making the appropriate sacrifices, today Slave Pit is pleased to announce that the GWAR-B-Q is 100% completely legal and confirmed, and set for August 18th at Hadad's Lake. As you may recall, last year's GWAR-B-Q was switched from Hadad's to the National Theater because of problems getting the correct permits.

"All the proper arrangements have been made in triplicate and the proper demonic sponsorships attained," said GWAR spokes-thing Oderus Urungus. "It's going to be a stinking hot, beer and beef-smeared metallic murderfest of unprecedented debauchery...the most splat-tac-cular GWAR-B-Q!"

The following press release was also issued:

"This marks the third consecutive year for the growing festival, and like last year GWAR will headline the event. As Best Friends Day, the hugely popular Richmond music fest, is taking this summer off, the GWAR-B-Q is set to be the hugest heavy music event of the Richmond summer scene. Bands will be spread across two stages and feature such acts as The Casualties, GHOUL, Valient Thorr, Occultist, Lionize, Highness, Antietam 1862, MUTWAWA, and Black Naked Wings. There will also be Spew-O-Lympics, numerous food vendors, endless streams of golden nectar, pools to cool your fevered sun-burn, and much much more, including the return of the Sexecutioner to the GWAR stage for the first time in twelve years. Sexy has completed a lengthy sabbatical beneath the catacombs of Paris with his good friend, Prince Ray Pierre, better known as 'Frenchy,' the demon of France. His return to the rock stage provides the promise of attaining unprecedented levels of naughtiness." More...

Gwar Commands You To Go Fur Free

The master of the Earth—that is, GWAR lead singer Oderus Urungus—has a few choice words for humans who "take animals, rip their skins off, and make marmoset banana hammocks with them."

In a brand-new video for peta2, PETA's youth division, Urungus pronounces "a bitter doom on those who fuck with our furry friends"—who he says are humans' "superiors"—and announces GWAR's new plan for an all-natural alternative to fur: the pubic hair of prison inmates.

"GWAR is titillated to be working with peta2, in this, the latest thing that GWAR is doing," says Urungus. "We'll be providing the humans with an alternative to animal fur and also helping improve the hygiene of this country's vast prison industry, in a collaboration that is sure to rip off a few heads."

As you may recall, this is GWAR's second video for peta2. The first, titled "Fight Humans, Not Dogs," pitted a GWAR "slave" against The Red Chord's Guy Kozowyk in a no-holds-barred match. More information is available through peta2 at this location. More...

Gwar Issues Update On Tour Dates And Album

Fresh off the latest six-week orgy of blood, booze, and missing children that was the second half of GWAR's "Return of the World Maggot/Farewell, Flattus Maximus" North American tour, the members of rock and roll's hardest working band have returned to the vastness of their Antarctica fortress to begin work on "a shitload of projects, all destined to rule..." said lead-singer Oderus Urungus. It all adds up to a summer of debauched excess for GWAR fans.

The band capped off the latest tour in grand fashion, sticking to the four-piece line-up that was thrust upon our plucky barbarian overlords after the tragic exodus of guitarist Flattus Maximus' from this mudball planet to the eternity of the cosmos, which occurred in November of last year as the band was just getting rolling on a huge two-part tour of North America.

The band elected to stick it out not just for the remainder of the fall tour, but retain the line-up with Balsac, the Jaws of Death, as sole guitar player. Every night the band would end the set with a special tribute to Cory Smoot, a musician whose talent was so immense that no one could ever fill his giant rubber feet, thus compelling GWAR to officially retire the character of Flattus Maximus. Faced with the daunting task of finding a new Scumdog who can match the standard of excellence the band demands, GWAR has activated certain contingency plans, and the process that will hopefully lead to a new and hellish alignment with some kind of hideous creature, one capable of slaying thousands with just one note. Needless to say, auditions are not "open." GWAR is also writing material for a new album, which could be out as early as several thousand years from now. More...

Oderus To Dave Mustaine: "Shut The Fuck Up"

TuRbO's Metal Meltdown has posted an interview online with Gwar's Oderus Urungus, in which he lets the world know how he feels about Dave Mustaine's recent headline grabbing comments about President Obama's country of birth, his support for Rick Santorum, and his thoughts about African women having children.

A snippet from the interview can be heard in the player below, featuring the typically colorful and choice words we've come to love and expect from Oderus. TuRbO's Metal Meltdown also commented:

"I scored an interview with Gwar's Oderus Urungus while they stopped in Tulsa to play a show at Cain's Ballroom. This is what Oderus had to say about Dave Mustaine when I asked about the recent media exposure that Mustaine has been receiving based on comments from his latest interviews. GWAR's Oduerus To Appear On Dan Patrick Show

GWAR frontman Oderus Urungus, having been banished from FOX News Channel's "The Red Eye," makes his return to the cable airwaves with a March 19 appearance on the Dan Patrick Show.

"I'm not gonna lie. I am a big Dan fan, and a proud member of the Dan-nation. I find his smarmy charm most ingratiating. I also hope he can help me with my hair," Oderus said.

"I'm not gonna lie...I hate people that say 'I'm not gonna lie'. I mean, what does that mean, that someone usually does lie when they talk to you?" he added. "That unless they preface everything they say to you with 'I'm not gonna lie", you should assume they are lying to you? Dan Patrick would never do that. Dan's a straight-shooter."

Oderus - in the midst of a U.S. tour with GWAR - is expected to talk sports on the show, which airs on DirecTV, Fox and Comcast sports channels. Besides talking about his new FEARnet TV show, "Holliston," and GWAR, he's expected to unveil his NCAA basketball bracket.

"I have the VCU Rams triumphing over the Jamaican bob-sled team," he cracked.

The show airs from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. EST.

GWAR Announces More Tour Dates

Not content with five weeks of North American destruction and devastation, mutant overlords GWAR have announced a second leg to their Spring "Return of the World Maggot Tour." This leg kicks off April 13th in San Antonio, Texas and wraps up April 28th in Allentown, PA. Support on this leg of the tour will come from Kylesa, Ghoul and Legacy of Disorder.

"These press releases usually go something like this--", said bellicose front-thing Oderus Urungus. "There is a general statement about what GWAR is up to, then I say something stupid, then it goes to a list of the shows and a bunch of links. That's what's happening right now. We really have to work harder to make these things more interesting."

Oderus adjusted his tie and continued -- "We are finishing this last spate of shows as a tribute to fallen Scumdog Flattus Maximus, and will be playing as a four piece behind the screaming assault of Balsac. In this way we shall give all the US bohabs ample chance to fall to their knees in a sobbing heap when confronted with the reality of Flattus' departure...and a chance to say farewell. Then GWAR can move forward, and we shall."

The first leg of the tour kicks off with a special tribute show for fallen band mate and friend Cory Smoot, AKA Flattus Maximus, in Richmond, VA, at The National Theater on Friday March 16th. All proceeds from the Richmond show will benefit the "Smoot Family Fund" which has been established to help support Cory's widow and their unborn child. Support on this run will come from fellow Richmond metallers Municipal Waste and California's Ghoul. Legacy of Disorder will join the tour on March 20th in Boston and will run through April 11th in Fort Collins, CO.

"All the years of doing GWAR could never have prepared us for what we have been through, and I want to thank the metal community and the extended GWAR family for all of your support. Finishing that last tour was the hardest thing we have ever had to do, and we still have about half of the country left to hit. We will continue as a four-piece, with the special tribute to Flattus at the end of the show, in order to give our fans a chance to say goodbye to our fallen Scumdog brother in true GWAR fashion-covered in blood and rocking the fuck out! After this tour is over we can start looking to the future and begin to put this tragedy behind us. But for now we are still in 'Hail Flattus' mode! GWAR Holds Cory Smoot Memorial Show

On Saturday night, January 7th, 2012, the metal community took another step in dealing with the tragic death of long-time GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot by holding the first of two events in a three-show schedule of shows designed to support the Smoot Family Foundation and honor the life of this prolific artist, who died of a heart attack this past November at the age of only 34.

Cory had played the role of Flattus Maximus in the world's most infamous band for eleven years, as well as participated in many side projects, while at the same time producing and engineering tons of records at his always busy Karma Studios. In doing so he had become a treasured part of the local and national metal scene, and they turned out in force to both events, opening their hearts to Cory's family in a completely selfless display of solidarity, respect, and generosity.

Cory's widow, Jaime, who is pregnant with Cory's child, had this message for the fans: "I want to sincerely thank ALL the friends and fans for their amazing donations and support!! Thanks to Eve and Brent for organizing the events, to the businesses that contributed raffle prizes, and to the venues and bands for making the shows awesome!! You guys made Cory, the baby and me very proud!" More...

Gwar Releases Final Cory Smoot Recording

Gwar released the final track that was recorded with Cory Smoot ("Flattus Maximus"), who suddenly passed away this year, as a tribute to his memory. The track is a cover of Dayglo Abortions 1993 song "Isn't This Disgusting."

The song is available through iTunes at this location. All proceeds from the sale of the track will be given to the Smoot Family Fund in honor of the guitarist.

Gwar frontman Oderus Urungus had the following comments on the cover: "The Dayglos have always been one of my favourite bands ever since we played a show with them 25 years ago. So when we heard about this project we were completely stoked, not just with the idea, but the song selected for us. It pretty much sums up my whole attitude. But I had no idea it would the last time I worked with Cory Smoot in the studio. This track has Cory’s last studio leads, and as usual, they fucking rip. Cory may have left us but his music will live forever. CRANK IT!"

Dayglo Abortions' The Cretin also commented on the cover: "This makes me feel like I have accomplished something with my life. It is a bigger compliment than any industry award or anything else I can think of. Bigger than recognition from peers. A pat on the back from the big boys. I believe proceeds from this go to Cory Smoot’s family fund. So shell out the buck 99, then e-mail me a copy, ‘cuz I can’t afford it. Cheers to GWAR."

Oderus Comments On Gwar Tour Cancellation

Following news of the cancellation of the European leg of Gwar's "Return of the World Maggot" Tour in January, Oderus Urungus has taken to Twitter to vent some of his disgust at the promoters and other factors that gave rise to the cancellation. While stressing his love for the die-hard European Gwar fans, he hits out at the reasons behind it all on @TheRealOderus. Below are some excerpts and a screen shot. Follow Oderus' Tweets at this location.

Of all the American (dual citizenship w/ Antarctica) bands that tour there, we probably have the most appreciation for European culture.

Getting disturbing reports of zero promotion and tickets still on sale...the sad part is we LOVE YOU EUROPE. We really miss you.

Believe me, if we had the money, we would, we have done it before!

And I will fucking go after it, this whole fucking thing pisses me off so bad, and I am just looking for a neck to wrap my hands around.

For now our focus must be on making sure that all of those fans who bought tickets get their money back. If you don't, tell me DIRECTLY.

This is but another bump in the road for the mighty GWAR! It shall not hinder nor dissuade us in our unholy quest...whatever that is.

It breaks my black heart that they shall be deprived of this...BUT

I know they wanted to say goodbye to Flattus. really, our fans in Europe are some of the most fanatical and loyal I have ever known.
