Megadeth Frontman Makes Comments About African Women
Band Photo: Megadeth (?)
In an interview that came out today in L.A. Weekly, Dave Mustaine made some rather limiting comments about African women who have too many children. Below is an excerpt from that interview conducted by reporter Linda Leseman, the Megadeth frontman has the following comments:
"There's so many houses without a dad that it's just terrible. I mean, you know how they used to say there should be a license to have a baby? Well, as far-fetched as that sounds, I really think that, if the parents aren't going to stick together, they shouldn't make that kind of commitment to life. I watch some of these shows from over in Africa, and you've got starving women with six kids. Well, how about, you know, put a plug in it? It's like, you shouldn't be having children if you can't feed them."
Mustaine also discusses how Bible prophecies are coming true, how he watches cooking shows and how Rick Santorum is the classiest of all the Republican candidates. Read the full interview by going here.

"I really think that, if the parents aren't going to stick together, they shouldn't make that kind of commitment to life"
Didn't his parents split up when he was really young?
In all fairness, I agree that overpopulation is a huge problem and think it's a bit sensationalist to focus on him using Africa as an example. As I've said before though, I'm not about to use the ramblings of someone who failed rehab sixteen times as my moral compass, so Mustaine can say what he wants.
Probably no differant than the whole Norplant experiment in the early '90s. He makes some 'duh' statements as far as im concerned. Plenty of people having too many kids that cant afford to raise, the controversy is the whole Africa comment he made. Dave totally sticking his foot in his mouth, bigtime. He needs to stick to metal, leave the social and religious commentary to the experts. I dont really take what Dave says seriously.
He's made so many poorly thought out statemants, he's hard to take seriously anymore.
later in the article...
Santorum? really? After all the years of politically charge lyrics, you're willing to vote for him based on personality?
Sure, don't worry about his voting record, or his stance on various issues. Vote for him because he's classy.
He supports a Presidential candidate who is completely opposed to birth control and abortion...
...but he wants people to stop having babies.
Ugh, I guess we can't expect too much sense from the guy who thinks that witchcraft and Satan are serious concerns in his life.
As crazy as Mustaine is, i completely agree. I HATE seeing people with kids, even more so when they have their 4 kids in the grocery store... WTF ARE YOU MAKING MORE PEOPLE FOR?!?!?! 300,000+ people are born a day, with only 50, 000 of that number dying a day. Why were people surprised when the global population hit 7billion? 2 years ago scientists were saying that was going to happen and :O they were right!! Now im pretty damn sure that by 2013 will will be hitting 8billions, and a half year after that 9billion... So maybe, JUST maybe it would be a GREAT idea to tell certain people they can't have kids and others that are more suited for the task can. I'm not saying stop having kids altogether, that would create a generation gap... I'm saying that dumb irresponsible people shouldn't reproduce and smart responsible people should. But then again if education was equal around the globe, people wouldn't be making rash or ignorant decisions.

Super Dave clearly has all the answers.
I'm baffled by the fact that he isn't on the ground in Africa actively solving this problem with "plugs" in hand. Big brother birth control mechanism as a solution? No hypocrisy there! Just clear that by your hero Rick Santorum. He too wants the authority to meddle in everyone's bedroom affairs despite the Republican ethos of a "hands off" government... Alas, birth control is a no no, just confer with Santorum's God.
That's it, I'm done supporting this intolerant douchetard for good. I could put up with all his incessant religious rambling and excessive narcissism in the past because I believed he was doing so sincerely and I could respect that but this is just crossing the line. "Put a plug in it"? Seriously? Is this the same guy that wrote Rust In Peace? And that too, not even a week after the openly homophobic comments he made in an interview. Doesn't he also endorse the ultra-conservative Rick Santorum, who -ironically- is against all forms of birth control? ROFL There was a point in time when he seemed like one of the most intelligent dudes in Metal, but now he sounds borderline retarded. WTF happened?
He lost me with the Santorum comment LOLOLOLLLL.
Um...Dave?
Santorum is GAY.
GAY, GAY, GAY, GAY, GAY, GAY.
Trust me, we'd rather not have him on our "bus" but sadly Captain Closet Case is one of my breed.
As for his Africa comments...we have enough problems here. If he's that worried about Africa then go there or shut up and play your guitar. He's really becoming the "Bono" of metal.
Reject, go take singing lessons from Rob Flynn will you?
Fvckin Brian, you always crack me up brother! :)
Ya, overpopulation is sh!tty, but why don't Sh!tstaine focus on his own backyard, where the mormons breed like latter day bunny wabbits...and not out of ignorance or lack of access to contraceptives, but because they believe themselves to be superior, and so purposefully put as many of their hapless progeny on the ground as possible to INCREASE their exalted population. To hell with the world and the rest of mankind!
Sh!tstaine?? Pffft...though I do still think I might still hate Boner and his stupid bar goggles just a wee little bit more :)

I have no problem with him making these statements, and it has nothing to do with the fact that i am 'on the same side of the aisle.' He is making all these statements as an individual when off stage. I've seen Megadeth several times over the years, and despite 'politically charged lyrics', Dave has never leveraged his position on stage to take direct jabs at the President like some bands i've seen (Distured, SOAD) and blatantly push his political agenda to a younger, more naive audience. Dave's recent comments are only going to be picked up in the conservative news/blog pages and the metal underground. Dave is a hard working guy and we're lucky to still have Megadeth today. Just think, if metallica worked as hard / recorded / toured as relentlessly, maybe they could have released a decent album in the past 20 years......
Could have chosen a better choice of words, but i agree with his overall stance.
politically speaking, you people want 4 more years of incompetence? vote for obama.
The republicans may not have anything special on their end, but what they have is certainly an upgrade from our current administration.
spending, gas prices, nix of the canadien oil pipeline, cuts in medicare, and eric holder is only the tip of the iceberg.
being a huge megadeth fan and a big time admirer of mustaine's songwriting and musical abilities, it annoys the hell out of me when he issues statements like these. i guess what i'm saying is, "Dave, please keep your misinformed, idiotic opinions to yourself and just make music."
BTW, i wonder if Dave knows Santorum considers him to be an agent of Satan because he's a metal musician?
Microscopic details like women being overpowered, manipulated and dehumanized escapes Mustaine.
I'd like to see Davey make a trip to the third world. He could visit some destitute village woman and her 6 offspring; All with yellow, cloudy, discharge crusted eyes, ribs showing behind distended bellies and covered in lemon sized biting flies. Hold her hand while she lies twitching in the dirt, as he sheds an involuntary tear he could say "I have brought you one of my trademarked plugs, wear it well." Then he turns to the camera, does his trademark MegaDave metal-smile with horns up.
Makes sense that he backs Santorum (despite their opposing views on birth control). I'm glad Dave and his informed resolve are there to keep this crazy world in line. For a second, I didn't think anyone had the answers.
i like megadave but this is kind of a d*** move....bet he insulted a lot of megadeth fans in africa with this crap and endorsing santorum is stupid considering ricky rimjobber wants to score political points by going after "scary devil music" that old people don't like...my political two cents is the only candidate worthy of support from the metal community is ron paul...we as americans shouldn't talk sh** on the third world...most of us wouldn't last a week in their situations...btw motorhead blew dave off the stage this gigantour
Not to sound ignorant or what not...but, From what I just read up their hes just using an example of place he was at.."Example". that being Africa. I don't understand whats bad about that comment....Dave is defiantly an Ahole based off past accounts of his attitude and display of his person, But I think His comment here is in proper order....Its not taken out of context really....Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not here for drama just writing this based off what I read.
@MiceandMen
Dave Mustaine has a very narrow simplistic view. That's the problem. He sees the women over in Africa having the same rights and freedoms that they do in First World Nations, when they don't. He thinks the simple solution is to just, not have sex, which just isn't' a reality. There is a lack of sexual education, birth control and other contraceptives, A LOT of rape and sexual assault and other types of abuse.
I think everyone should attempt to empathize with their fellow human beings. Dave doesn't really have any place commenting on this though.
So many more factors compile to create these issues. I dont even, eh.
Once you start you can't stop. Dave Mustaine need to clamp it up, he is becoming senile.
I don't see anything really controversial about Dave's statements. 3rd world or not, doesn't make Dave's comments any less true. His choice of words and his delivery may be off a little...but I think he is right. Just because these women don't have access to birth control doesn't make it untrue.
I read some these post and some of you have the mentality of "Oh, these people are so poor and so uneducated about sex and they don't have the means to prevent pregnancy". Well, they're smart enough to know if they have sex enough, they'll eventually have another mouth to feed.
Ugh, Dave continues to disappoint with with his political and religious comments. He needs to start drinking and doing drugs again, lol... Being pro Santorum is dumb on his part considering Santorum wants to take away all the "plugs" in our American vaginas. People are going to have sex no matter what because it's a biological need.
............Did I seriously miss this article?
We're gonna fill up this planet way too quick and I guarantee...............guaran-fvcking-tee that no one is gonna do jack sh!t about it until it's already too late. I sure as hell hope I'm provin' wrong though. But yea you can see that even today. No one wants to fix problems anymore, it's all about how much money you can make regardless of the consequences.
I'm going to have at least 1 kid and I will not let him/her turn out like all the retarded ignorant people I see on a daily basis. I just hope the world I bring them into isn't as disjointed as it is now.
Maybe we'll all actually die in December so we don't have to worry about it. Hooray lol.

I don't understand what is so controversial about this.. it's true.
