Falling In Reverse Premiere New Music Video

Months after his disappearance from social media, Ronnie Radke, the controversial frontman of the multi-platinum alternative metal band Falling In Reverse, has announced a July 26th release date for the band's new album.

Titled "Popular Monster," the album is preceded by the newly released track "Ronald." The song features guest appearances from multi-platinum rapper Tech N9ne and Alex Terrible, vocalist of Russian deathcore band Slaughter To Prevail. Radke previously stood up for Terrible last summer amid backlash from the LGBTQ community over his divisive comments.

"Popular Monster" will include several of Falling In Reverse's past hit singles, such as the 2x multi-platinum title track, as well as the gold-certified "Voices In My Head," "Watch The World Burn," and "Zombified." Radke's significant other, AEW wrestler Saraya-Jade Bevis, is featured on the song "Bad Guy." The album was co-produced by Radke and Tyler Smyth (known for his work with I Prevail and Lights).

The music video for "Ronald" has just premiered online, directed by Jensen Noen (known for his work with Motionless In White and Black Veil Brides). In a bold move, the album/single cover features Radke's booking photo from his 2012 domestic assault arrest, a charge that was ultimately dropped, with Radke pleading no contest to a charge of disturbing the peace.

Apart from the album release, Falling In Reverse has announced dates for their 'The Popular MonsTOUR II: World Domination.' The tour will feature supporting artists Black Veil Brides, Dance Gavin Dance, and Tech N9ne. Select stops will also feature Jeris Johnson and Nathan James.

Citi and artist presales for the tour are launching today, May 7th, with the general onsale scheduled for Friday, May 10th at 10:00 am local time. Further world touring from Falling In Reverse is currently being planned. More...

Warped Tour Lineup Reportedly Leaked

This year's Warped Tour is set to take place from mid-June through early August, but until today the lineup was a big question mark.

KillTheMusic.net is reporting that part of the lineup has leaked, and will include GWAR (which makes sense, as the band canceled this year's GWAR-B-Q with the statement that "GWAR is about to take on the craziest year of touring").

It's important to note that the source of the leak was not identified, so this may be pure speculation. KillTheMusic issued this statement:

According to our sources, we learned the following facts about this year’s Warped Tour:

Bad Religion, Lagwagon, CKY, Black Veil Brides, Beartooth, Hatebreed, and GWAR are a few of the many bands playing the year.

5 bands from Fat Wreck Chords and 5 from Epitaph.

25 bands cut from the usual lineup to ensure this year is quality.

Assuming this leak doesn't change any plans, the full lineup is due to be announced on March 22nd, 2017 with the planned tour routing available below. More...

AP Music Awards To Be Hosted By Andy Black

The Journeys Alternative Press Music Awards, Fueled by Monster Energy, will be hosted by Black Veil Brides frontman Andy Biersack - more recently recognized by his solo moniker Andy Black.

Biersack states, "I am so honored to be hosting this year's fourth annual APMAs. I've attended every APMAs, and I've been fortunate to have a favorite moment every year. As host, I want to make people feel happy and create favorite moments for them, too. I want them to be stoked, whether they are attending the event or watching it from their homes."

Alternative Press CEO Mike Shea adds, "Andy is one of the most dynamic and engaging musicians I think I've ever met. Besides being an amazing frontman on the rock stage, he's also one of the funniest off-stage. Over the past year, he's been bringing his comedic side to fans while touring with his Andy Black project, and when we heard that he was interested in hosting the APMAs, we thought that there could be some real magic here in the making. Even before we got down into the details he had already dissected other hosts' successes and failures on other award shows and came to us with an entire analysis of what he could bring to the APMAs. We are really excited about his enthusiasm and dedication to the show and we know that music fans worldwide are going to be happily surprised to see the results!"

This year's event will return to Alternative Press' home city of Cleveland, Ohio on July 17th. Details regarding 2017 tickets and VIP packages, nominees,attending/performing artists, red carpet appearances, surrounding events and more will be announced soon via this location. More...

Metal Must Evolve

My biggest issue with metal in the 2010s is that in contrast to the past three decades, there's just a lack of creativity. Newer metalcore is being increasingly influenced by nu-metal and post-hardcore as the new musicians who are in their 20s and 30s are now playing music that's entirely an amalgam of what they grew up with as teens rather than creating anything new.

Blackgaze was novel for the first few years but now feels like the light beer version of black metal at this point that doesn't have the same edge that metal is supposed to have. I'm not sure if I want black metal to have a kinder, gentler, dare I say, “cuddlier” face when compared to the antisocial behavior that defined the second wave. When I hear a band like Alcest or Deafheaven, I don't feel like these are maniacs with serious mental issues precisely because it sounds way too calculated and professional for my aging ears.

Djent is nice but often feels too monotonous to really do justice to how technical it is. For, “progressive metal” the songwriting lacks the same level of unexpected changes in direction that make progressive rock acts like Rush and Yes so appealing. Yeah, Djent is heavy but it's also often predicable when unconventional songwriting is half of what separates metal and makes it so special and unique. Blackened sludge on the othe rhand is only going to appeal to people who want extremely raw production... who will never be great enough in number to establish a trend rather than a fad. More...
