Megadeth's Dave Mustaine Checks In From Touring
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has posted a tour report online as the band touch down in Britain as part of the "Priest Feast" tour. You can check it out below:
"Well, we are back on English soil, and our British tour manager got out of the bus yesterday morning and kissed the ground, and I asked him if he did, and he said, 'It’s been eight years since I have been on English soil.' I thought that was killer, except it was snowing and he had to stick his face into the slushy street slop to kiss the ground.
"I remember seeing the Pope do that once and I thought surely that has gotta burn, when he kissed the tarmac on an airstrip in a trip over to the states many years ago.
"Anyway, Chris (Broderick) and I were at dinner last night and we finally saw one of the Judas Priest guys, but he was with his family, maybe siblings or friends, and we decided not to bother him. So we just sat and eat red meat, and talked about guitars! More...
Megadeth Issues Another Studio Album Update
Megadeth front man Dave Mustaine has issued the following update about the recording of their upcoming album:
"Droogies!
"I am sitting in my office at 5:30ish AM and am typing this as I try to wake up. Yesterday, Andy Sneap went back to the UK for a while, as we are preparing to go out on the Priest Feast Tour. This means effectively that the recording has stopped, until we return in March/April.
"We finished all of the rhythm and bass guitars, as well as the drums being finished for a couple weeks now, and I think I even heard some acoustic layers. The reaction from our management, family, friends (the real critics), and my number one judge and coach Justis, has been pretty positive. Onward, I have a furious next few days of getting ready for the tour, as well as making sure that I am ready for this 'switch' from studio to stage.
"I want to let ya know that we are going to be taken portable recording devices, like we did last time (that seemed to work out just fine), and finish preparing for the last recordings on "Studio Release number 12."
Everyone is done with their basic tracks, and all of the songs have been arranged. Its just a matter of singing with my voice AND my fingers. So, until tomorrow (or later today), Long Live Metal!"
Megadeth Completes Bass Tracks For New Album
Megadeth has revealed that the bass tracks for their new studio album have been fully recorded. Bassist James Lomenzo has checked in with the following update:
"Just finished my last set of bass tracks. Last night. I'm really pleased and excited for you all to hear the new stuff. At this stage, it's very cool with an old school kind of 'thrash-y' vibe. Some of it calls to the old Megadeth style, which is cool and some of it is just plain HEAVY! Dave's guitar is sounding mean and when I left yesterday, Chris was just fixin' to put in some leads...
"That's it for now, gotta pack for the Priest Feast."
My best (as always),
James
Megadeth Frontman Posts Another Studio Update
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has posted another message from the studio where the band are currently recording their new studio album. It reads as follows:
"Droogies!
"Is the race on or what?
"I think that James and Chris are trying to make me look bad. I mean, having to leave the studio over and over to participate in the lives of my wife, kids, and my own insane self is hard enough, let alone having two nitro fueled, metal madmen, trying to record everything I lay down, as good and as fast as even I can. So much for being an old metal maverick, like myself! Sheeeesh! More...
The Megadeth Equation of Album Updates
American thrash/heavy metal band Megadeth have given some equations based on the amount of work completed for their new upcoming album:
"12/12, 3/12, 3/12, 3/12 0/12, 0/12, 0/12, 0/12, 0/12, 0/12
"Droogies!
"The above formula is based off of some fractions and the amount of work to be done still. See if you can stick with me on the way.
"Shawn is indeed done and back in Atlanta, 12/12.
"We are working on rhythms; I had three, as well as Chris that was finished, and James got two finished. I have nine left, as well as Chris and James has 10 (I was told to use the digits when writing after the number nine).
"The vocals, solos, BGVs, Keyboards, effects, mixes and mastering are still left to do.
"We will keep you posted, but I doubt we are going to have this done in time.
"It wasn't for lack of trying, my lovely Droogs. We have all sat around and been ready and waiting for our turn at the recording process only to have Murphy's Law interrupt us: with an interview, a photo shoot, a mix of a live DVD, some recording on the Static-X record, doing work on the private stuff that Andy has backed up around his neck (hehehe) and various other chat room or fan club interviews. I get there every morning and wait, Andy has been a good sport about all of the parts and working while we are getting everything lining up, James has been there a lot of the times and has been working on archive stuff, Chris has been down almost daily now going over songs with me, and we are just getting fired up!!!
"I have to hop off of the computer because it is needed by someone.
"What a great freaking day... stay metal, or die trying!!!
"MSGD!
Megadeth Bassist James Lomenzo Checks In
Megadeth's bassist James Lomenzo has posted the following studio report online:
"Yeah, I'm NAMM 'd out too, fuck it... so on to Thursday at old Vic's. Both yesterday and today Dave's (Mustaine) been in early, laying down his rhythms and tightening up arrangements. Yesterday also saw the triumphant return of Chris 'No Riff Is Out Of My League' Broderick. Dave and Chris' (Broderick) guitars sound particularly angry together, I'm digging the way this is going down. Last night I was able to track my first bass part and I'm really pleased with the way it's sounding. I'm really impressed with Andy's (Sneap) keen sonic sense, he's really got everything cranking (I think it's spelled "Kranking" these days) I can't wait for you all to hear it... I hear my name being called... got to jam... Later."
Megadeth's Shawn Drover Completes Drum Tracks
Shawn Drover of thrash/heavy metal band Megadeth has just announced that the drum tracks for the upcoming full-length release are finished. "I leave for the airport in a few hours, to which I am happy to have 100% completed these 12 new songs for the next Megadeth record - I am really excited on how they turned out both from a performance and a sonic standpoint, so now I can just spend a few quality weeks at home with my family before we once again head out for the Killing Road." Killing Road is the band's tour with other big names such as Testament and Judas Priest.
The rest of the band still has to record tracks for the new album.
Megadeth Frontman Posts Another Album Update
Megadeth are currently hard at work on a brand new studio album and they've made sure everyone knows about it. Frontman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message online:
"Droogies!
"I have just determined whilst listenening down to the songs that I have miscounted and we don't have the 13 that I thought we had, and that we only have 12 songs. I guess we had one song written down under two different names, and what a let-down. Either way, I was thrashing to this new stuff, and except the songs that are intentionally slower in certain parts, this is a rather jaunty little record.
"We are just about ready to send Shawn home from doing his drum tracks, which means in real fuzzy math, that we are almost 25% done with the recordings. Now we just need to continue to structure the songs for lyrics, and solos and we are done! More...

Megadeth Finishing Up Drum Tracks
Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following album update online:
"We are on the last day or so of drum tracks, and barring the debacle at the top of the session, we have been able to maintain the typical Vic quality with the recording.
"Chris Broderick has been coming down more and more and it really is starting to feel like a band again (sometimes it feels more like a session when we break after a tour and the time-lapse, before we feel like we are in stride again). More...
Megadeth Guitarist Chris Broderick Posts Update

"I am getting ready to head down to Vic's and wanted to check in. Shawn is finishing up the last few songs with drums and all next week I will be starting on rhythm guitars. This is very cool stuff, learning Dave’s rhythmic style can be a challenge but is one that I look forward to."

Megadeth Frontman Posts Album Update
Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message online:
"I remember when I first started to hear all of the shit around the number 13. It meant that you were now a teenager as far as I was concerned as a kid, but then there was that dark side.
"There was the dark side that was associated with 'bad luck,' and an even worse and darker side; the 'marijuana' connection. But I want to tell you about the song 'Song 13 idea.' This is quite possibly going to be my favourite song on the record (on any Megs record for that matter for a long time coming). More...

Megadeth Issues New Album and Endorsement Updates
Shawn Drover of thrash/heavy metal band Megadeth has just issued a report concerning recording activities for the band's new album. Today is day four for the band's recording sessions at Vic's Garage and for the album in general. Next week will only be a partial recording week for the band, "as we all have appearances at the NAMM, [which is the National Association of Music Merchants], show at various times. I also have to drive up to L.A. on Monday for a killer photo shoot with Vic Firth drumsticks for future drum magazine ad's, posters, etc. There will be other drummer's invloved in this photo shoot, and though I wont name anybody at this point (in case they cannot make it, etc.) some of the names I am hearing are very cool. Regardless, I will enjoy this opportunity with seeing my Vic Firth artist rep, Marco Soccoli, who is a dear friend, and a fantastic human being. In going on my 5th year in Megadeth, I have been very fortunate to develop great relationships with all of my respective endorsers, so I always jump at the chance to see them when the opportunity arises."
Megadeth Begins Recording New Album
Megadeth drummer Shawn Drover has issued the following statement about the recording of a new album:
"So now it is official, we have started to record our 12th record yesterday. I laid down drum tracks for the 1st 2 songs, which I am happy to say, turned out quite well. Tuesday was spent changing all my drumheads and getting the best possible drum tone Andy Sneap and myself could, as we are going back to the old school on this in terms of natural drum tone - From this record insepction, I had many conversations with Andy expressing how great so many records sounded back in the day with drum tones, etc. and that we both wanted to get certain aspects of that into what we are doing now. You will hear the results of this when this record is released. Anyways, day 2 will have myself playing song's 3 & 4, (obviously, no song titles as I write this) and if we stay on track, I will have 8 song's completed on drums by weeks end."
Static-X Issues New Album Update
Electro-Industrial metal band Static-X has issued the following update about "Cult Of Static," their upcoming album:
Happy New Year everyone! I am excited to announce our new CD, entitled "Cult of Static", will be released on March 17th. I started writing a year ago in January 2008 after coming home from the long tour for "Cannibal." The past year has been quite a blur; between writing and recording the new cd and releasing the "Cannibal Killers Live" dvd I've kept very busy.
I know you are all going to love this new record. It has everything you have come to expect from Static-X... and more. This is the most epic record we've ever made, it has the most crushing guitar tone I've ever had, and we even got Dave Mustaine of Megadeth to play a guitar solo on a new version of the song "Lunatic." Tony, Koichi, Nick, and myself put everything we had into recording this cd.
I can hardly believe it's been a decade since the release of our first CD, "Wisconsin Death Trip," and we're still going strong thanks to all of you! The title "Cult of Static" is meant to be a big thank-you to everyone who has supported us through the years. I'm looking forward to seeing you all on the upcoming world tour. Check back here for details.
Megadeth Album Update
Dave Mustaine has issued an update on the Megadeth Forums about the band's next album: "Today is the first day of the 'Megadeth album 12' sessions after the Christmas and New Years break. I was at the studio yesterday night with Justis after flying home from our new Years ski trip and it was unreal how much the studio has taken on a life of its own and is a living breathing building now that is responsible for forging the new Megadeth record."
