Megadeth Album Update

Dave Mustaine has issued an update on the Megadeth Forums about the band's next album: "Today is the first day of the 'Megadeth album 12' sessions after the Christmas and New Years break. I was at the studio yesterday night with Justis after flying home from our new Years ski trip and it was unreal how much the studio has taken on a life of its own and is a living breathing building now that is responsible for forging the new Megadeth record."

The CD is being helmed by acclaimed British producer Andy "Undie" Sneap, who produced Megadeth's last album, 2007's "United Abominations." The yet-to-be-titled album, set for release by Roadrunner Records later this year, will be the band's first with guitarist Chris Broderick, who made his live debut with the thrashers on Feb. 4, 2008 in Finland.

Yes, Nevermore is awesome, still would rather have Sanctuary back though.

I really enjoyed about half of United Abominations, the other half wasn't anything i could listen to more than a few times.

He is just too political, its ok to interject it now and again, but it gets annoying and old after awhile.

dude its a good thing that he is political. out of the big four they have the best lyrics. slayer has some violent ones. anthrax has funny ones. but megadeth has some that make you want to go out and start a f***ing riot.

I have always seen megadeth on the brink of political lyrics from "Looking down the cross" to Peace sells, hanger 18 etc. yes, not technically political, but always edgy

deathfreak, you make a good point, and i appreciate when slayer or anthrax do it. But when Dave does it, it sounds like my dad is yelling at me to cut my hair or something. So his message gets lost with me...countdown to extinction was the last one i actually cared to listen to, i did buy the last 2 Megadeth releases, but didnt find anything very exciting about it.

I agree with Tim on this one. While the political views of many thrash bands can make for some great musical inspiration, sometimes I just want to rock out, listen to stuff about H.P. Lovecraft, gothic storytelling like Opeth, or egyptian mythology from Nile. It can get old when every song is a political diatribe. Sometimes we need to switch off CNN and lighten up. This is in no way an attack on Megadeth. I love their first 4 albums and always will.

Personally, I think United Abominations was great, political lyrics and all. Didn't really hear much overt political firepower from Dave Mustaine until then, just sprinkles of it through his music- what he did with UA was pretty awesome... For one album. If he mixes it up for the enxt album, it'll be awesome. Hopefully it'll have a sound somewhere in between the System Has Failed and Killing Is My Business.
