From: Richmond, VA, United States
Last Known Status: Active

Background

The Richmond, VA 5-piece, Lamb of God, came together in the current form in the fall of 1999. The band has been around in various forms and under various names, most notably Burn The Priest, since '94, however, and the brothers, Chris and Willie, have been playing music together since '88.

Lamb of God signed with Epic records in 2004 and completed their major label debut in just 5 months before embarking on their first Ozzfest tour and subsequent US and UK tours.

Lamb of God play a caustic style of extreme metal that can be compared to few others. It can best be described as a raw mixture of death and doom metal elements, but that description does not do their sound justice. Go get their CD or catch a show and hear it for yourself.

Chris Adler To Produce New TotA Album

Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler has teamed with producer Josh Wilbur (Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold) to produce the new album from the band This or the Apocalypse, which is due out this Spring on Good Fight Music. This or the Apocalypse signed to LifeForce Records and released their first commercial debut, "Monuments", in September 2007 in the US and the rest of the world the following month.

Chris Adler had the following to say about the working with This or the Apocalypse on the production of their new record: “I've been wanting to produce a band other than my own for a while now, but never found one that inspired me quite enough to jump in. It's an exhaustive process to commit your creativity and focus to someone else. Most bands that are noticed today do one thing really well, or are known for a particular direction. Few combine as many elements as seamlessly as This or the Apocalypse. This record is intense to say the least. It feels like a landmark music moment. Time will tell, but I'm obviously pretty f'n psyched.”

Vocalist Ricky Armellino also commented: “Normally when you meet people in Adler's position, the last thing on their mind is finding new music or even listening to it. Chris still finds the time. He's full of music and got a ton of energy; I feel like getting him into the writing/ recording process for the new album was an incredible circumstance for us. From day one we've been shooting back and forth demos, lyric sheets, home recordings of White Lion songs and developing a lot of ideas together. Josh Wilbur's an incredible vocal producer and his recordings are organic, huge, and a cut above anything you hear in the genre, so getting him in the mix was a huge blessing for the project. These guys are family to us now and we can't wait to get this monster on the shelves.”

A Decade Of Metal In Review

On the 31 Dec 1999, no planes came crashing out of the sky, nuclear bombs went off or microwave ovens tried to eat anyone. However, times were about to change and in the metal scene change was already well underway. Let us take a stroll through the decade in metal that was.

Many of the 90s big names like Emperor and Pantera prepared to give their last venomous scream dying off in the wake of ever diminishing interest in the metal scene that had plagued the 90s. In the year 2000 a band named “Limp Bizkit” came out with an album called "Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavoured Water" and in a storm nu-metal took over the public perception of heavy music, changing the face of metal irreparably. Although nu-metal had already been pioneered by Korn, bands like Deftones, Disturbed, Mudvayne and Linkin Park all had breakout releases in 2000. More...

Lamb of God Drummer Discusses Grammy Nomination

In a recent interview with MetalSucks, LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler discusses his band's recent Grammy nomination, touring with Metallica, not letting all the success go to his head, and how the band keeps things fresh and vital. An excerpt follows:

"Are you even planning to attend the ceremony, or do you watch it from home, or do you just not watch at all?

"Last time we did, all of us attended except for Randy [Blythe, vocalist]. He had his own little personal boycott of it in the same vein that we’re talking about – thinking that it’s kind of a joke. This time, I think three of us are attending. Mark [Morton, guitarist] and Randy are staying at home. Randy, out of some personal protest, is not attending. I did attend the first time, and I am attending this time. It’s not that I’m going and thinking that we’re going to win. In fact, I’m fairly certain that we’re not. I think that there are several bands on the list that definitely deserve to win. For me, the after-parties and the show itself are just crazy. It’s so out of my world. I’m just this kid from Virginia that grew up listening to metal. Last time I went to the Grammys, I ended up at a party with “Weird Al” Yankovic and Smokey Robinson. Paris Hilton was there, Dave Grohl was there, and I’m looking around like, “How the fuck did I get in here?” [laughs]

"Do they seat you with the other metal nominees so at least you’re close to the Slayer dudes and the Megadeth dudes and some of the guys you know?

"Yeah. Well, the last time they did. We all kind of sat together and jeered each other on. At this point, we all know each other fairly well. It’s a pretty cool little community there."
