Heavy Metal Black Friday Deals Revealed

It's almost Black Friday again (which for many stores has essentially just become "Black Month" as the sales start earlier and employees are expected to work all Thanksgiving) and you might not think that matters to metalheads, but many of the labels actually jump on that bandwagon.

Best of all - you don't have to go to a store at four in the morning to get these deals.

The holiday / Thanksgiving / Christmas sales are already ramping up through the various online distros, so if you're looking for new music on a budget, these heavy metal Black Friday deals will help you find new tunes.

This is just the start though, so check back in each day as we add in more deals. Specifically look for Amazon to launch something big soon, as that online juggernaut usually does $5 albums that rotate out each day. If you know of any metal sales that aren't listed below, be sure to leave a comment and we'll get it added.

And it's here - the Amazon $5 digital album sale arrives! Grab digital copies of music from Megadeth, Rage Against The Machine, Veil of Maya, Slayer, and more in rotating deals on full-length albums.

Most of the stock on the Nuclear Blast America shop - CDs, vinyl, shirts, etc. - are on sale for the "Blackest Friday," up to 45% off.

The Razorback Records webstore is offering 25% off your order if you buy at least $10 worth of music through November 30th.

The Thanksgiving Week Sale is now going at the Facedown Records web store with albums on sale for as little as $1.

Bullet Tooth is offering vinyl bundles on discount, ranging from $15 - $50 and featuring music from Earth Crisis, Memphis May Fire, Ritual, and more.

The Omega Order is offering 25% off a large selection of death metal, gore grind, and grindcore discs this week.

Comatose Music has an ongoing sale where you get a free CD of $10 or less if you buy three CDs totaling $30 - the deal stacks too, so you can get two free CDs at $60 and three free CDs at $90. More...

Annihilator Announces Tour Guests

Canada’s finest thrash outfit Annihilator has confirmed 2 special guest slots for an upcoming 2015 headline tour: Harlott and Archer. The band comments:

"Forged in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, Harlott are the finest example of the thrash metal genre in recent years. Taking most of their influence from the 80’s bay area thrash scene, they focus on high energy, up tempo music with lyrical influence from the human condition. Unrivaled live concerts, an aggressive recognizable sound and professional musicianship have earned Harlott a strong and dedicated fan base in the Melbourne metal scene, which still continues to grow to this day. Harlott will not only impress new audiences in and outside of the heavy metal genre, but they will also succeed in taking the fans back to the golden age of metal.

"Hailing from the unlikely roots of Santa Cruz, California, Archer is a band determined to deliver genuine uncompromising and unrelenting ass-kicking hard rock and heavy metal music to fans of all ages. As fans of the music themselves, this trio of hard rocking guys is not unlike any fan of the genre. They play for those that share a love for the music and the passion within. Make no mistake – this is a band that is truly the sum of its parts and is best illustrated by the collective musicianship these three individuals possess. Alex’s precise drumming, David’s masterful bass duties, and Dylan’s captivating combination of playing and singing make for a sound and a band that is uniquely satisfying while retaining all the heavy metal inspiration that ultimately drives them. There is a real tangible passion within the band that is revealed when they take the stage and crank out one of their intense performances. It makes one realize that these guys are the real deal….

"Archer has worked hard to climb the rock and roll heap and have no intention of letting go or slowing down as they continue to strive towards greater heights. It is through such tireless efforts that Archer has earned its past and present successes having toured and performed alongside some of the genre’s biggest acts. In addition to embracing the touring grind, Archer has recorded with the likes of Sam Taylor (King’s X, ZZ Top) & Gilby Clarke of Guns and Roses/Rock Star Supernova fame. Listening to their recorded efforts reveal a dedication to their craft that continues to impress." More...

The 70,000 Ton Hangover

Can 21st-century metalheads ever be truly happy if they’re not bitching about something on the web?

The pointless arguments over bands’ music, which mostly boil down to matters of taste, are exhausting enough. And there’s a simple solution to dissatisfaction with a particular tour package: stay home and masturbate.

But complaining about festival lineups? Really?

I have some news for you, sport: the only Perfect Metal Festival Lineup, which exists only in an individual’s imagination, attracts an audience of one. Your Perfect Lineup is different from mine.

There needs to be a common denominator, a compromise. I don’t know about you, but when I’m not basking in my serene, elite metal knowledge via trve and righteous, smarmy and self-congratulatory screeds on Facebook, I actually enjoy watching a live show in the company of others. And in reaching the compromise to make that social event possible, everyone’s Perfect Lineup inevitably becomes less than perfect. Such is the transition from fantasy to reality.

In the process, like small children finally realizing that vegetables aren’t going to kill them, we learn that the reality is almost always better than the fantasy (discounting the fact that the latter doesn’t exist). MTV’s Butt-Head once mused on this very issue: “If nothing sucked, and everything was, like, cool all the time… how would you KNOW it was cool?”

At a several-day festival with dozens of bands on multiple stages, we NEED at least a handful of acts we know we can ignore. Otherwise, think of the immense pressure to be constantly on our feet, rushing back and forth, watching every equally important band with rapt attention. Even if possible, it would be simply overwhelming. We’d pass out from exhaustion and forget to enjoy ourselves. Plus, the truly special acts wouldn’t seem as special.

Last summer at Tuska Open Air in Helsinki, rather than bitch about the injustice of Bring Me The Horizon directly preceding Anthrax, I was grateful for the chance to relax and have a beer before catching a show by one of the Big Four. More...

Maximum Rock Festival Returning In October

Romania's Maximum Rock Festival will return in 2015 with a new edition featuring headliners Epica and Annihilator. The festival takes place from October 15th - 18th, and the organizers also had this to say:

"Apart from these two significant names, the event will also feature performances by other international and local acts, just as enticing as the headliners. Many new bands will be confirmed shortly.

"The success of the two previous indoor editions has led to the creation of a tradition, which, through perseverance and professionalism, transformed the show into a crucial one for the Romanian, and international, entertainment market.

"More and more people from Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, Germany and so on choose to spend a week of October at the Festival! Because the audience awarded, again and again, its trust to the organizers, the festival has grown a great deal, and, as a result and a symbol of this, we have decided to extend the event to a 4 day affair, instead of 2, like before.
