Total Metal Open Air Taking Place In July

The organizers of the Total Metal Open Air Festival have announced that tickets will go on sale February 3rd via Ticketone, Bookingshow, and Metaltix. Production manager Fabrizio Fiorito comemnts:

“This year we are preparing an edition which will be far superior to all prior ones for both the number and quality of the bands and for all the care that we are having for the non-musical entertainments of the festival. A highest ticket cost was lawful and justified, but just because of the major change that we are doing we would like to introduce the 'new' TMF to as much people as possible. Certainly we're sacrificing part of the possible income, but, with foresight, we look to the future and we are confident that a low ticket price will bring us a lot more people and then will make the event even more famous and popular."

The Italian festival takes place on July 19th and 20th, 2014 and so far Annihilator, Moonspell, and Death Angel have been confirmed, with more announcements coming shortly. More...

Trainwreck Architect Streaming New Song

Inspired by life and charged with fast and heavy grooves, screaming solos and powerful vocals, Montreal, QC's Trainwreck Architect will bring you back to the roots of metal with a few surprises along the way.

The band is now gearing up to unleash debut album "Traits of The Sick" officially on November 12th, 2013. Guitarist Renaud Baril comments:

'Our first album has all the traits of a sick album!!! We are really proud to release it! We had a good time in studio recording gang vocals with friends. From a guitarist's point of view, hearing how Jeff Waters would perform a solo over one of our track was a really inspiring experience! We are confident that old-school metal fans as well as extreme metal fans will have a blast when listening to it!'

The band is now streaming the first track off the album "As Killers Breathe," which features a guitar solo from Annihilator's Jeff Waters, whom also mastered the album. More...

Sunday Old School: Annihilator

Many of the world's top guitar shredders fit into two types of personalities. There are the overindulgent ones with inflated egos and there are the ones with quiet self-confidence that are in it because of their love for metal music. Jeff Waters of Canadian band Annihilator fits into the latter category. He lets others put him in their charts for top guitar players in metal while he quietly goes about pursuing the field that he loves - creating music with his band and others.

Jeff loves what he does, for he's been in it for over 28 years since Annihilator put out its first demo "Welcome to Your Death" in 1984. That, and the subsequent couple of demos released, were among the top traded demo tapes in the mid eighties - giving even Metallica and Megadeth a run for their money. In the early incarnation of Annihilator, Jeff had John Bates on vocals and went through quite a few musicians in the rhythm section, even replacing Bates with Randy Rampage from D.O.A. The problem was that the band members liked partying and going to clubs, leading to the turnover. More...

"While 70000TONS OF METAL, The World's Biggest Floating Heavy Metal Festival is steaming at full speed course West through the Mediterranean Sea, they received news from their European Scouting Party. And since there is no backstage area you will have the opportunity to mingle side-by-side with the artists in this incredibly fan-friendly scenario that has no comparison. Former Annihilator Drummer Passes Away

Jeff Waters, guitarist of the Canadian thrash veterans Annihilator, has posted the following statement online in regards to the passing of former Annihilator drummer Dave Machander:

"A few weeks ago (while I was touring in Europe), I got word that we lost a former member of Annihilator's touring lineup, Dave Machander. He passed away from cancer.

"Dave was a super-nice guy. I met him under stressful circumstances. In 1996, we did a record called 'Refresh The Demon'. Randy Black was our drummer then and I had bought everyone's plane tickets for our upcoming 'Refresh the Demon' Europe tour 1996.

"12 days BEFORE the tour was supposed to start, I get a call from Randy telling me that, if I did not pay him double+ the money I was to pay him for the tour that he would not come along and would join another Vancouver artist Bif Naked instead (as she apparently was offering more money). I told him that we could not afford this and that it is very, very wrong to hold us 'hostage' like this. He ended up leaving for Bif Naked (which ended up lasting one tour and he was out anyway!) but, more importantly, Randy Black left us with NO DRUMMER, a cancelled flight that I did not get my money back for and a tour in 12 days!!!

"12 days is wayyyy too short of a time to get someone to jump in and play an Annihilator set and I still had to hope I could find someone!!

"Dave Davis, our long-time guitar player, suggested his friend Dave Machander and thought he could handle the gig/pressure. I was not convinced but had no other option than to literally say 'you are in' before I even heard him play drums!

"We rehearsed on Vancouver Island, near where both Dave's lived. We had six rehearsals scheduled. Normally, for a drummer with us, headlining Europe, we would need 10 rehearsals.

"Many drummers play along with a 'click.' That is a cowbell kind of sound that keeps a time/beat in the drummer's earphones and lets him play close to perfect timing... it helps him zoom in and play tighter than without one. Well, Dave was not playing well to it. Turns out, he had never played to one before. I was in panic mode. So was everyone else. So by the fourth rehearsal of six, I was ready to cancel. Almost. Then Dave Davis said, 'Jeff, why don't we simply take Machander OFF the click and let him just 'feel' the music?'

"I said, 'Might as well try, Dave.'

"We did. INSTANTLY the guy played fantastic. Really good. Better than good. He then really only had two good rehearsals with us and then got on the plane with us and kicked fucking ass on that tour. The guy pulled through and stuck with it. Most guys would have quit after the first few rehearsals but he would not give up. And thanks to Dave Davis for the tour-saving suggestion!

"Anyway, I only saw/knew Dave Machander on that one tour with us. He was a biochemist, if I have my info right. A very smart guy and seemed to be a very nice guy, too!

"Send a thought out to him and his family. He was a good guy. And grab a loved one and give them a hug."

Annihilator Continuing Tour After Fire

Canadian thrash act Annihilator escaped a fire on Wednesday night, shortly after playing to a packed house in Nottingham, England while on a European headlining tour. The band had to cancel the show on November 19th in Birmingham due the fire. Earache Records issued the following statement about the situation:

"Annihilator were packing up their gear from the Rescue Rooms venue in Nottingham city centre at around 1:00am when a large fire broke out next door. 1,400 people were evacuated from the venue as well as others from surrounding buildings. No one was injured in the incident.

"Emergency services were called to the scene and were still putting the fire out on Thursday afternoon, causing significant disruption to the city's transport services. Some of Annihlator's equipment was still in the venue at the time of the fire and the band and its crew were unable to retrieve it until Thursday. View photos of the fire at: this location and here. Annhilator have now retrieved their equipment and are able to continue with their tour." More...

DuskMachine Announces New Singer

German thrash metal band DuskMachine has announced their new singer as Joe Comeau. The band has issued the following update:

"The DuskMachine is very happy to present its new frontman: Joe Comeau."

"Most people will know Joe from his amazing work as a guitar-player for OVERKILL and singer for bands such as ANNIHILATOR, TAD MOROSE and LIEGE LORD. Being friends for several years, he joined almost immediately when we contacted him. Joe has already recorded several songs and his singing is incredible. You can call him "the voice". But let the man speak for himself:"

"Dear Friends and fellow Metalheads-

As I now begin a new musical journey, it is with great honor to not only be in a band with such awesome musicians, but great friends as well! I have played on stages all over the world with Randy and Russ in a previous band and I have known them all (including Nikolai) for a number of years. Great music is not only formed by complimenting each other musically, but by working together as a unit. It is about time that the four of us banded together to create some killer tunes and memories, which I promise to you is being done at this moment! I have remained quiet for too long. The time has come. The time is now. Let us crush."
