Devildriver Completes Recording Drums and Bass

Devildriver guitarist Mike Spreitzer has issued an update about the recording of the band's fourth album, noting that the drums and bass are now compelte. Here's what he had to say:

"I am very happy to report to all of you that the new DevilDirver is coming along very nicely. Working with Logan Mader has been an ultimate pleasure. He has done a great job capturing a sound that represents DevilDriver better than ever. Drums and bass are all done. I started recording solos yesterday and hope to have them done by the end of the week. I can tell you that this record is full of guitar solos. Way more than any other record we have ever done. I personally feel a heightened sense of pride with this record. We all put more effort than ever into this one and it is definitely paying off. I can not wait for all of you to hear it."

Devildriver Guitarist Posts Album Update

Devildriver guitarist Jeff Kendrick has posted the following report online: "Hey guys, I must say that the record is turning out better than I had ever imagined. The tones, performance and overall vibe has been great! I was not so sure about recording in LA, but so far everything has been fucking awesome and we are very blessed and pleased to have Logan Mader producing. In particular, I cannot wait for everyone to hear the guitar tone. WOW! See you guys soon.

Bassist Jon Miller also checked in with the following:

"As of February 1st, I have finished my bass and guitar parts for the fourth DevilDriver studio album. I could not be happier with how well things have gone thus far in regards to the tones of the guitars, bass and drums but especially the vocals. Not only is this the best music we have written but it is Dez's best vocal performance... hands down. Logan Mader is an absolute pleasure to work with. He has brought the best out in all of the members in DD. This album will not disappoint... in fact, it may hurt you."

Ozzfest 2008 Deemed A Success By Organizers

Billboard.com reports: Ozzfest 2008, with Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne as headliners, grossed nearly $3.5 million and drew close to 30,000 people to Dallas' Pizza Hut Park, according to producers Sharon Osbourne and AEG Live.

Sponsored by Affliction Clothing, this year's Ozzfest marked the return of the 13-year-old hard music brand after a free run at amphitheaters last year. This year's one-off event did "fantastically well," Sharon Osbourne told Billboard.com. "The one thing is you want for the kids to go away and keep talking about what a great show it was, and that's what they're doing."

In addition to Metallica and Osbourne, mainstage acts were Serj Tankian, Hellyeah, Johnathan Davis, Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica, and In This Moment. The second stage featured Sevendust, Devildriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. On the third stage were the Sword, Drowning Pool, Rigor Mortis, Within Chaos, The Destro and "battle of the bands" winners Debris and Black Tooth.

Osbourne says plans are for Ozzfest to return to Dallas again next summer, likely as a two-day festival, and other cities are also being considered. "Ozzfest ain't going anywhere," she says. "We do try and shake things up and experiment. We're not the old donkey that plods on doing the same sh*t."

"To mention any bands , whom I liked or didn't would only single out my particular taste, instead of drawing attention to the fact that the lineup was diverse, massive in the fact that it had well established artists as well as solo projects and shoot offs from other bands . More...

Metallica Covers Iron Maiden For Kerrang Tribute

Metallica has revealed that they recorded a cover of Iron Maiden's "Remember Tomorrow," off the band's self-titled debut album. Here's the update from Metallica'a MySpace blog:

"We were honored to be asked to participate in Kerrang's exclusive 'Maiden Heaven' tribute album... one of those super cool Kerrang! CD's that you can only get when you buy the mag. In this case, the issue (1219) goes on sale in the UK on July 16 and for those of you somewhere else, you can pick it up online at http://www.kerrang.com.

"We picked 'Remember Tomorrow' from Iron Maiden's self titled first album... it was basically the blueprint for songs like 'Fade to Black' and 'Sanitarium' and when we were jamming our way thru most of our favorite early Maiden songs, this one stood out and also came together somewhat effortlessly... we had a blast recording it at HQ in the middle of all the insanity of the last two weeks of finishing the new album back in May. Some of our other favorite bands recorded their own versions of Maiden songs too... Machine Head, Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, Coheed And Cambria, Dream Theater to name a few. There are more details in the current issue of Kerrang! or on their site... or check out the "official" press release here.

The complete Maiden Heaven tracklisting is as follows: More...
