Slash Begins Recording Debut Solo Album

Velvet Revolver/former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash entered the studio last week to record his debut solo album. A message from the guitarist reads as follows: "Hey, how is everybody?

"I start recording my solo CD today (on March 25th), Josh Freese on drums and Chris Chaney on bass, with Eric Valentine producing. I know you're saying 'didn't Josh play with Axl's Guns N' Roses?!' He did in the 90's for a while but left after a couple years, so I don't know if it counts much. Besides, that doesn't undermine that he is an amazing drummer.

"I've been reading your messages and there is a handful of questions that a lot of you have in common. One question that a lot of you want to know is, who is singing on this record, but unfortunately, I can't divulge that info yet, but you'll know soon enough. I will say however, that they are fantastically talented songwriters who its been an honor to work and write with, to say the least. More...

Sixx:AM Guitarist DJ Ashba Joins Guns N Roses

Guns N Roses has announced that DJ Ashba, guitarist with Sixx:AM and Beautiful Creatures, has entered the band to replace Robin Finck, who is currently touring with Nine Inch Nails.

"DJ 's a gifted, energetic guitarist that Guns N' Roses is proud to have on board!!" exclaims Axl Rose. "We're very excited to have the opportunity to work together. Guns' radar has silently been aware of DJ's presence for quite some time! He brings a fresh approach to our particular brand of mayhem, expanding the tapestry of Guns N' Roses live. Once DJ's name was in the hat, the hat disappeared!!"

"It's an honor to have the opportunity to be a part of a band that I have always loved and respected," said DJ Ashba. "I'm looking forward to working with Axl, who is not only one of the few great frontmen of our generation, but a true artist."

Axl Rose Not Interested In Releasing Another Album

In the same interview where the infamous rock frontman Axl Rose gave a scathing opinion on former band mate Slash, he gave some interesting, though short and sharp answers regarding the next Guns N Roses album. You can check out some excerpts of the interview below.

Q: When's the next album?

A: "Have no idea and don't care. Hopefully, we'll be working 'Chinese' for a good bit. Of course there's the same idiots that have been around forever already demanding release dates."

Q: How much material is there?

A: "Not as much as Baz [SEBASTIAN BACH] thinks he heard! Really, it doesn't matter. If things go well enough, we'd like to get another out at some point in our lifetimes."

Q: Is anything finished?

A: "Depends how you look at it."

Q: How do you look at it?

A: "Not something we've focused on."

Q: You're not saying much.

A: "You got that? What I can say is if you don't like this, then you probably won't like that. Same people, lots more approaches, bit meaner in places and darker in some. Robin does a really great Stevie Ray Vaughan-type solo on one track."

Axl Rose: "Slash Is A Cancer"

Guns N Roses's infamous frontman Axl Rose recently spoke with Del James for a discussion about a number of things. Inevitably, the question of a reunion came up to which Axl Rose responded: "It's highly doubtful for us to have more than one of the alumni up with us at any given time."

"I suppose (former bass player) Duff (McKagan) could play guitar on something somewhere but there's zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash," Rose said.

"In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided -- and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters the better."

Axl Rose Grants Billboard Extensive Interview

Billboard.com has posted an extensive interview with Axl Rose, who has not done so in nine years according to the publication. Here are a couple of excerpts:

Without sounding presumptuous, what took so long to get the album out?

And without sounding facetious, what didn't? There aren't too many issues of the hundreds [we ran into] that happened as quickly as anyone would have preferred, from building my studio; finding the right players; never did find a producer; still don't have real record company involvement or support; to getting it out and mixed and mastered.

All that aside, it's the right record and I couldn't ask for more in that regard. Could have been a more enjoyable journey, but it's there now. The art comes first. It dictates if not the course [then] the destination artistically. For me, once the real accompanying artwork is there with a few videos and some touring, the package was achieved and delivered.

And to do so at this level in terms of quality, both artistic and performance-wise, both on record and live, is something that's a miracle at minimum and something that wouldn't have happened, no matter how anyone tries to convince others, with old Guns, regardless of anyone's intentions. It was just as ugly in old Guns, regardless of our success.

Are you planning to make videos?

We're finalizing a video for "Better" and writing a couple others now. Over time different ideas have been tossed around, written up or submitted but that was then. Nothing we had come up with -- or at least the approaches so far -- felt right. We have been discouraged from making a video all along by Interscope, up until Best Buy requested one after the release, and in a manner by Interscope then of, "So where's the video?," taking everyone more than off guard.

Metallica To Tour With Guns N Roses?

According to Contactmusic.com, METALLICA would consider a rock supertour with GUNS N' ROSES - after hailing the group's comeback album "Chinese Democracy."

The "Enter Sandman" hitmakers are big fans of their rock counterparts, who they rose to fame alongside in the 1980s.

And drummer Lars Ulrich admits he would jump at the chance to tour alongside Axl Rose's legendary group. He says, "We're road dogs. We love to tour. So we'd never say no. We've learned never to say no to anything, and all four of us love 'Chinese Democracy'."

But guitarist Kirk Hammett admits he doesn't see the rockers making an offer in the near future, adding: "The real question is whether they would tour with us."

Use of GNR Songs in Guitar Hero Was Unauthorized

Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has issued an open letter to the makers of Guitar Hero saying the use of songs such as Welcome To The Jungle and Sweet Child O' Mine in the hugely popular game were "unauthorised".

However the singer didn't mind ex-bandmate Slash being associated with it.

"[Slash] being in Guitar Hero is fine, but not when Activison is using Welcome To The Jungle unauthorized," wrote Rose. "I wasn't broadsided I read about it as it moved along but Activision continually denied it right up to the release. That's some low life chicanery on all their parts."

"Yes, Slash was in Guns and on Welcome To The Jungle and he has rights to perform it," he continued. "But not to be represented in this context in association with Guns. And since they weren't granted the license it'll take some sorting."

Axl Rose Hints At New Album, Addresses More Issues

Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has hinted that a follow up to "Chinese Democracy" could be on the cards after finally breaking his silence over the long awaited album.

Speaking to various fan forums and messageboards, the singer said there was a wealth of material left over which could be released in the near future.

"For now we'll concentrate and keep our focus on this album but I will say I've always thought of it as a double," he said.

He also spoke about why the original line-up split and a recent court case brought by Duff McKagan and Slash, reports Billboard.

"What I can say now is you've been told a lot of things in order for others to promote themselves that factually they cannot backup in regard to either," Rose said. "They are complicated legally, financially and have devoured a good portion of my life."

Meanwhile, the band's manager Irving Azoff has dimissed rumours of the original line up getting back together, according to Yahoo!.

In a statement he said: "There are no plans of a reunion, nor have there been any discussions of a reunion, with former Guns N' Roses band members."

Guns N Roses Uploader Kevin Cogill To Be Sentenced

Los Angeles resident Kevin Cogill is to be sentenced to up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine following his illegal upload of Guns N' Roses' latest album.

Cogill uploaded nine new tracks from Guns N' Roses album Chinese Democracy - over four months prior to the album's official release in November.

"I think the internet affords a level of anonymity to people that lulls them into believing that what they are doing is either not criminal or beyond the reach of the law," US attorney Craig Missakian said on the sentencing. "But that's certainly not the case."

Cogill is currently out on bail.

Axl Rose Breaks His Silence And Answers Questions

Blabbermouth.net reports: Guns N Roses frontman Axl Rose has broken his silence and has answered questions from the fans regarding the bands latest album, "Chinese Democracy" and its promotion. Some excerpts are as follows:

Q: How come you always come on stage so late at gigs?

Axl: "I've been an after-midnight type since I was sneakin' out of my house in junior high [school]. With [the] old GUNS [lineup], we preferred [to take the stage at] 12:00 a.m. or so. When we moved to theaters etc., obviously that changes but it's never changed inside me. Doesn't matter what I do, so generally that's when I'm more myself. This isn't to mess with anyone that has an early schedule to keep, it's just personal preference. And in regard to the size [of] venues, I'm on record as preferring whatever venues allow for our schedule, but management and promoters can do a lot in their own interests behind the scenes that can rarely be avoided and their greed or whatever leads to a lot of double talk and ugly behind nonsense that generally eventually ruins things for everyone. Translated: once a tour is scheduled, however, it's like parting the seas to change. As far as being late, I've been that way my whole life. It drove Izzy [Stradlin] crazy but he would check himself and freely admit I was generally actually doing something that had to get done rather than watching basketball, etc."

On a video for the new GUNS N' ROSES song "Better":

Axl: "The 'Better' music video will be out in a week or so. Monumental promotion will start very soon!"

Q: Who do you listen to for hardcore blues? I'm a blues singer and I can tell from your work that you have at least got way into a couple of blues records.

Axl: "BESSIE SMITH, ZEP 1, ROBERT JOHNSON, TUMBLEWEED CONNECTION, JANICE More...

Axl Rose Missing For Two Months

A number of news outlets are reporting that Guns N Roses frontman Axl Rose has been missing for two months.

Music-News.com reports: Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has been missing for two months.

The eccentric rocker has infuriated bosses at record label Geffen after disappearing without promoting the band’s long-awaited "Chinese Democracy" album, which was released last week 15 years after the last Guns N' Roses LP.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "People have been trying to contact Axl for two months and he’s completely AWOL [Absent Without Leave].

"It is frustrating because the album would have had a much better chance of going to number one if he had only been prepared to show his face.

"You would have thought after spending all those years on an album you might do a few weeks of promotion. 'Everyone knows Axl is a bit of a maverick genius and won’t do anything he doesn’t want to.'"

As previously reported, "Chinese Democracy" debuted on the Billboard album charts at number 3. The album apparantly sold 261,000 copies in its first week of release in the United States. So far, Chinese Democracy has only gone to number one in Brazil and Finland.

Dr Pepper Responds To Guns N Roses

Dallas Business Journal is reporting:

Beverage company Dr Pepper Snapple Group responded to the GUNS N' ROSES controversy on Tuesday after singer Axl Rose blamed the beverage giant for botching a promotional effort that promised fans free beverage coupons if they managed to log onto Dr Pepper’s Web site and sign up for a free Dr Pepper coupon during a limited period in which the company was celebrating the belated release of Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy album.

During the first stretch of the campaign, free Dr Pepper seekers flooded the Web site, which caused the site to crash, making it difficult for others to sign on.

Dr Pepper extended the campaign to accommodate beverage seekers who experienced the site crash.

According to an interview given to CNN, Guns N’ Roses lawyer Laurie Soriano said the campaign and its shortcomings were wrongfully associated with Axl Rose. In the interview with CNN, Rose’s attorney said her client wants the company to make good on the offer.

In a statement Tuesday, Plano-based Dr Pepper Snapple Group said, “We are disappointed that GN'R’s lawyers are turning a fun giveaway into a legal dispute. We simply commented on the delayed release of Chinese Democracy and openly encouraged the band to release it before the end of the year. Axl even expressed support for our efforts earlier in the year.” More...
