Metalocalypse Guest Stars Revealed For Season 3

When answering questions from fans and users of MetalSucks.net recently, Metalocalypse creator Brendon Small has revealed that the next season of Metalocalypse will include special guest voice work from Mastodon, Slash, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. An excerpt from the interview is as follows:

Q: Can we expect to see more voice work from the members of the metal community in the new season, perhaps your tourmates in Mastodon?

A: "That’s funny that you mentioned that, [because] we just recorded Mastodon in the upcoming episode and they were… we were blown away. We get a lot of people and we’re always surprised that they have this kind of other talent or can do voiceover stuff. Mastodon surprised us more than anybody else — they were really funny. Just hanging out with those guys on this tour has been really fun. They have a very good sense of humor. A lot of people in rock and roll, metal and all that stuff spend all their time on the bus just watching comedy and Monty Python and stuff like that. We have Mastodon coming. We have members of In Flames coming this season. I have some of my guitar heroes playing parts on this season, doing voiceovers, like Satriani, Vai, and Slash. I’m a guitar nerd so I had to reach out to those guys to see if I can get them on the show. They were great too."

The Rockstar Ramblings: GNR on Biography

Last week I was flipping through the channels when I found an older Guns N Roses biography on the BIOGRAPHY channel. For those unfamiliar with this cable program it is usually located around channel 327 between FOOD and other channels you have never watched.

What pulled me in was of course the opening which included Axl wearing his “big hair” only seen in the “Welcome to the Jungle” video and a man who suspiciously looked like Axl. Here are my thoughts as I watched my first biography, on BIOGRAPHY. More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: The Rehab Special Report

The Rockstar Ramblings: A Metal Video Marathon

Jon Bon Jovi alone increased acid washed denim sales by 40 percent. In the videos “Living on a Prayer” and “You Give Love a Bad Name” there are more ass shots of Jon than two years of Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez on TMZ…There is no way the Latin kid playing the drug lord in Motley Crue’s “Dr. Feelgood” rises to the top of the underworld…I always thought it was assumed Poison wore the most spandex until I saw the number of tight changes in David Lee Roth’s “Goin Crazy”…KISS easily has the most body hair of any rock band…The song “You’ve got Another Thing Coming” by Judas Priest takes on different meaning from when I first saw it years ago… More...

The Rockstar Ramblings: Tribute to the Microphone

Ever since the days of Jim Morrison using his microphone stand for self arousal the mic has been a key tool for rock singers and their act. This was specifically true for the glam heavy metal acts in the eighties. Here’s a breakdown of the microphone cowboys and their unique style.

Judgement Day Records For Slash's Solo Album

Two of the members of violin and cello metal trio Judgement Day recently had the honors of recording with Slash for his solo record. Here's an excerpt of the band recounting the story:

"A couple of weeks ago Lewis and I went down to LA for a recording gig with Eric Valentine, a producer who we work with often. Sessions for Eric are always great, so we didn’t even ask who the artist would be this time. When I got to the studio Lewis was already set up in the live room and Eric was hard at work getting tones. He started playing the song that we were working on. It was a pretty pop ballad and the singer kind of sounded like of Maroon 5. Was this a Maroon 5 session? As the song smoothly progressed, my eyes began to scan of the room for clues. I noticed a handful of unusual black guitar picks strewn across the desk and couch. I leaned over to pick one up. Just then, the song hit the bridge and the tone totally changed. A ripping, monster guitar entered, shredding like a demon out of hell. The logo inscribed on the guitar pick was of crossed bones and a skull wearing a top hat. This could mean only one thing…"

The Rockstar Ramblings: Side A Song 1

There was once a time when music wasn’t downloaded one song at a time, had (in the case of albums and cassettes) two sides (an A side and B side), and song order was not only a conscious decision, but a reason an album would be successful.

Today we look at the glam heavy metal scene (late seventies to early nineties) and review the best first tracks.

Ex-Guns N Roses Members Granted Restraining Order

Steven Adler, the former drummer of rock legends Guns N Roses has been granted a restraining order against a woman from Oregon, and so has his former bandmate Slash, it was revealed today.

Adler believes a woman named Lisa Jill Martin-Cahn hired at least three private investigators since '08 to hunt him down ... "under the ruse" they were long lost lovers who met in rehab back in the early 90's. Adler's documents, filed in L.A. County, say cops who visited Cahn at her Oregon home last month found "unopened boxes of house ware items which Cahn stated were wedding presents for her and Adler's upcoming marriage."

Adler's former GNR bandmate Slash claims Cahn has contacted him and his family members - including his mother-in-law - by phone and letter in desperate attempts to get in touch with Adler.

The restraining order was granted yesterday morning and Cahn now must stay at least 500 feet away from the two musicians at all times.

The Rockstar Ramblings: Five Deserted Island Songs

Guns N Roses Uploader Kevin Cogill Sentenced

As was previously reported, Los Angeles resident Kevin Cogill was arrested and pled guilty for uploading pre-release tracks from the Guns N Roses album "Chinese Democracy." GNR Daily has issued the following report about Cogill's sentencing:

A Los Angeles man who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of uploading pre-release Guns N’ Roses tracks was handed one year probation and two months’ home confinement Tuesday after agreeing to cooperate with the Recording Industry Association of America to produce an anti-piracy message.

Kevin Cogill was arrested last summer at gunpoint and charged with uploading nine tracks of the Chinese Democracy album to his music site — antiquiet.com. The album, which cost millions and took 17 years to complete, was released in November and reached No. 3 in the charts.

Cogill faced a maximum of a year in prison. The authorities, however, originally were demanding six months, claiming the amount of infringement equaled $371,000. The higher the number, the longer the potential prison term.

According to court documents, after Cogill agreed to help produce an anti-piracy public service address with the RIAA, the government withdrew the $371,000 figure and agreed not to fine him. Los Angeles federal authorities in March said the figure was a “reasonable estimate” that gave the defendant the “benefit of the doubt.” The calculations, the government said, were based on each downloaded Guns N’ Roses track being worth 99 cents on iTunes.

As part of the 28-year-old Cogill’s guilty plea in December, he informed the authorities that he received the music online and unsolicited — a confession prosecutors said might pave the way for more “targets” to be prosecuted.
