Killswitch Engage Cancels Tonight's Tour Date

Killswitch Engage, who recently announced they would continue their tour with fill-in vocalist Phil Labonte from All That Remains, has issued the following update about canceling tonight's show in Tuscon:

"Killswitch Engage will have no choice but to cancel their upcoming performance in Tucson, Arizona on Thursday, March 4, 2010. Fill in vocalist Phil Labonte of All That Remains will absolutely need this day to rest and recover his voice from what has been a very grueling three week touring schedule in which he has been asked to perform a wealth of new material. With another three weeks of touring still to go, the band realizes that it’s crucial for Phil to get this much needed day off so that he can be at full capacity the rest of the way.

"Labonte is pinch-hitting, so to speak, for KsE’s Howard Jones, who had to leave the tour to attend to personal matters. The band wants to thank their fans in Tucson for their understanding in this matter and wants to assure them that they will make every effort to get back into Tucson as soon as possible."

Dark Tranquillity Issues Tour Report

Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity's vocalist, Mikael Stanne, has checked in with the following report from the road, “Sitting here in beautifully cold Minneapolis trying to get the hangover out of my system. Fargo yesterday was as barren and cold as I remember it from the Cohen brother’s movie. Amazing crowd though and we celebrated accordingly. So far this tour has been amazing for us. We are now two weeks in and we are only just getting started. Amazing venues and huge crowds. Obviously we are struggling with winning over some of the fans of Killswitch Engage and The Devil Wears Prada, but so far I have been positively surprised as to how many are at first skeptical only to two songs in go nuts in the pit. It's a beautiful thing to behold from the stage."

“We have been playing two new songs in the set and they have really got the room moving every single night. I am really looking forward to doing way more of the new album material as we are near release date. Since this is just the start of a very long touring cycle we are really excited to see that the album is getting rave reviews and the friends we've played it to really love it. It seems to generate a lot of heated discussion too, which I view as a good sign. With such a diverse album we are bound to hear all kinds of comments and we always welcome that. Bring on the love/hate fest!”

DARK TRANQUILLITY’s new album, "We Are The Void," is set for a March 9th U.S. release.

KSE To Continue Touring w/ Phil Labonte On Vocals

Last week, it was announced that Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones had to unexpectedly leave the band’s current headlining tour, leading to a flurry of rumors and questions about the status of the tour and the band. The band has further issued the following statement addressing the matter, saying: “It became overwhelmingly obvious to all of us around Howard that he is in no condition to be on tour right now and that he needed to get off the road and get himself better. It’s a personal matter and while we understand everyone’s curiosity and concern for Howard and the band, we appreciate everyone respecting Howard’s privacy at this time.”

Longtime friend Phil Labonte of All That Remains was able to fill in and help out the band for a few shows and it appears as though he will be filling in for the remainder of the tour, which runs through March. Killswitch Engage endured and survived a similar situation in the past, where guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz was forced to sit out a tour due to a back injury. Killswitch Engage also said, “We seriously considered cancelling the tour since we don’t want to give fans that paid good money anything less than KsE at full-strength. But after trying a few shows with Phil, and after feeling the love and support that we were getting from the crowd, it became increasingly apparent to us that the shows came across as fun and unique, and the fans seemed to be enjoying it. We quickly realized that we had to keep going and that we couldn’t possibly stop.” Refunds are available for any fans that have already purchased tickets, but as the band said, this tour will offer a chance to experience Killswitch Engage in a unique way that you won’t be able to witness again.

Furthermore, the band would like to thank all fans who came out to support them during this difficult stretch, exclaiming “We really do feel that our fans are the best fans in the world.” The band also thanked Labonte for pitching in, saying “We can’t thank Phil enough for helping us out when we needed it the most.”

For a taste of Killswitch Engage with Labonte on vocals, check this footage from the Baltimore show this past weekend, check out the video below. A Decade Of Metal In Review

On the 31 Dec 1999, no planes came crashing out of the sky, nuclear bombs went off or microwave ovens tried to eat anyone. However, times were about to change and in the metal scene change was already well underway. Let us take a stroll through the decade in metal that was.

Many of the 90s big names like Emperor and Pantera prepared to give their last venomous scream dying off in the wake of ever diminishing interest in the metal scene that had plagued the 90s. In the year 2000 a band named “Limp Bizkit” came out with an album called "Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavoured Water" and in a storm nu-metal took over the public perception of heavy music, changing the face of metal irreparably. Although nu-metal had already been pioneered by Korn, bands like Deftones, Disturbed, Mudvayne and Linkin Park all had breakout releases in 2000. More...
