Killswitch Engage will be headlining the upcoming California Metalfest. It's a special gig for the Grammy-nominated, Massachusetts metal band celebrating its 10th anniversary of 2002's "Alive or Just Breathing." To commemorate the album, KSE will play the album in its entirety, from start to finish, as well as other more recent tracks.
The sixth annual California Metalfest will be held at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, CA on Saturday, November 24th. Ash Avildsen, founder of California Metalfest had this to say: "Alive or Just Breathing is one of the most important and timeless albums for this era of heavy music. KsE's special headlining set combined with the rest of the line-up is going to make for an incredible day of metal and memories. Having all these bands in the same place on one day is really exciting both as a fan and as a festival producer."
WWE Superstar "Mankind" Mick Foley will be hosting the festival along with several other stars TBA who will be doing signings and appearances. There will also be many carnival style prize games where fans can win special, limited edition band merch and memorabilia instead of stuffed animals. More...

Killswitch Engage has been doing the rounds at European festivals this summer, one of which being Rock Am Ring. YouTube user Max406Plus has now uploaded footage of the entire set, which can be viewed in the player available below.
The band is also currently working on a new album. To find out what's happening with the upcoming release, see what front man Jesse Leach had to say at this location.
Killswitch Engage, which is currently embarked on the Trespass America tour with Five Finger Death Punch, Trivium, and more, is now performing a new song titled "No End in Sight" during the band's set. Roadrunner Records got in contact with newly returned frontman Jesse Leach to discuss the tour and the upcoming Killswitch Engage album. Excerpts from the interview follow:
Roadrunner: So what can you say about the next record at this point?
I’ve got a couple of songs done, I’ve got a bunch to go, but I’ve got a lot of ideas. I listen to it every once in a while out here just to keep me familiar with it, so when I get home and attempt to finish the record, it’s still fairly fresh in my mind. Sonically, this is definitely – it’s got a more urgent feeling to it. It’s a lot faster, there’s definitely huge melody going on, but the songs are a lot shorter. Not one song really goes over the three and a half, four minute mark. I just anticipate lyrically and vocally it to be a very urgent record. We’re at a state in this world right now where someone needs to talk about what’s going on. There’s a lot of apathy in this world, there’s a lot of really screwed-up stuff in our government and the world’s governments, and the whole class vs. class thing, the protests that happened all around the United States – there’s a lot of unrest, and I think it kinda needs to be touched upon. And it’s up to the metal community to have a voice, and that’s what I’m aiming to do with this next record – make it very important. Make it matter.
Roadrunner: Given that you’ve been out of the band for 10 years – obviously they’ve welcomed you back, but is everybody on the same page regarding what the songs will be about? Are you running the lyrics past them as you go? More...

After losing his singer – again – Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz says he considered ending the band he’s been a part of since the turn of the century.
“That thought definitely did cross my mind,” Dutkiewicz told Metalundergound.com recently. “Picking up the pieces after losing two singers is kind of ridiculous. But things worked out and we feel like a stronger unit.”
Adam D and his longtime bandmates – Mike D’Antonio, Justin Foley and Joel Stroetzel – first dealt with losing original singer Jesse Leach back in 2003, just as the band was taking off with its sophomore release, Alive or Just Breathing. Leach was battling depression and was replaced by Blood Has Been Shed’s Howard Jones, who went on to front the Massachusetts-based band as they earned a Grammy nomination and two gold albums and headlined sold-out arenas and festivals.
When Jones left last year to deal with his own personal demons, Dutkiewicz and the crew didn’t have to think too hard before deciding to bring Leach back into the fold. Dutkiewicz and Leach had toured together with their side project Times of Grace and have remained friends, despite the messy breakup a decade ago.
“Jesse did have an edge because he used to be the actual singer of the band. And he’s a great friend of mine,” Dutkiewicz said.
Dutkiewicz says he keeps in touch with Jones, who is considering writing a book about his experiences in Killswitch.
“Howard and I still chat and honestly he’s just doing his thing,” Dutkiewicz says. “We all wish him his best. He’s doing alright. He’s just chilling.”
For Leach, singing songs written by Jones took some time getting used to, but he says the emotion behind the words is what’s allowed him to make the songs his own.
“Initially it was kind of a strange thing for me . . . I’ve never sang someone else’s songs, my whole career,” Leach says. “I just sat with the songs and just listened to them. For me, it was really just taking them in and digesting them, and seeing how I could connect with the lyrics. I just fell in love with the songs. I think they’re great songs. It’s just honest. It’s just him pouring out his heart.”
One of his favorites to sing is “Arms of Sorrow” from 2006’s As Daylight Dies.
“That song moves me,” Leach said. “It’s such an honest song from Howard. It speaks volumes about being on the road and trouble with relationships. There’s something to that song that gets me.”
“Plus, the song crafting is Adam. It’s flawlessly written hooks,” he continues. “It’s just getting into the mind state of feeling every word I’m saying. I can’t stand on stage and pretend.”
Leach will make his return official Sunday at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in Worcester, Mass.
Victory recording artists Emmure will join the already-stacked lineup of the 14th Annual New England Metal and Hardcore Festival on Sunday, April 22nd.
"We couldn't be more excited and grateful to be a part of this year's NEMHF," said vocalist Frankie Palmeri. "Some of my favorite bands are playing and I think this is the best line up it's had in years."
Emmure will join a lineup of more than 75 bands, from Billboard-charting artists and festival veterans to new acts and future stars of the genre, as the 14th Annual New England Metal and Hardcore Festival takes over the Palladium in Worcester, Mass., the weekend of April 20th through April 22nd.
A camera crew will be on hand this year to document the show for an upcoming film focusing on the history of the festival, behind the scenes footage and the development of the show. The documentary will be produced by Manny Santiago from Crimson Media and sponsored by Shook Clothing. More...

As was previously announced, Killswitch Engage has reunited with former vocalist Jesse Leach. The band has now issued the following official statement:
"Killlswitch Engage are pleased to announce that they have filled the singer vacancy in the band and they have done so with a familiar face: original vocalist Jesse Leach.
"Leach sang on the band's first self-titled album, which came out in 2000, and on their landmark 2002 Roadrunner debut Alive or Just Breathing. Leach left the band in 2002 and was replaced by Howard Jones, but his work on Alive or Just Breathing has always been revered by diehard, longtime KsE fans. Things have come full circle a decade later, and Leach and the band couldn't be more pleased about this reunion.
"After much deliberation and careful consideration, we are pleased to announce that Jesse Leach has rejoined Killswitch Engage. Our job was to find the best person to fill Howard's shoes: a decision based on talent and not familiarity.
"Truth be told, Jesse blew us away in auditions. The room seemed charged with electricity. He commanded both new and old material, and proved, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he wanted to do this. The choice became very clear and apparent.
"This change is very exciting. We know you're going to love it. This is truly a new era in KsE history and it is ready to shred your face off. So, please help us in welcoming Jesse back into the KsE family; he is a rare and great talent, a fact that older KsE fans have known for years. Here is to a killer new record and a bright future. The five of us cannot wait to write this record and play shows together and bring that feeling to our fans. It's been far too long." More...
