Today Deadlock celebrates the release of new music video "Berserk," taken off the upcoming "Hybris" album due out July 8th. Deadlock shouter John Gahlert has this to say:
"The release of our first song 'Berserk' is not only a little dream came true, it also marks the end of a long journey, as well as the start of our future path. We've never put so much energy and passion in a music video ever before. This song is most important for all of us at Deadlock. 'Berserk' is the first official song with Margie Gerlitz as our new singer and we are very curious to see if our loyal supporters feel the same depth of her voice just as we do..."

Following news that Margie Gerlitz has been confirmed as the band's new singer, Deadlock now reveals details on an upcoming studio album.
"Hybris" is set to be released on July 8th via Napalm Records and turns out to be a multi-faceted monster in terms of both shape and content. At the same time it painfully digs through the latest events in the Deadlock camp. Despite the tragic death of founder and drummer Tobias Graf (immortalized with a moment of silence on the album) and the departure of singer Sabine Scherer (now replaced by Margie Gerlitz), the megalomaniac creative urge could not be suppressed.
Sebastian Reichl comments on the album: "'Hybris' is both powerlessness and hope, melancholia and confidence united, accounting for the past in the truest sense. The effort to meet your demons, to forgive and to find salvation with your own history. The release of dammed aggressions and wash away all fears. Put all wrath and anger in music and lyrics to fill with new passion. This is all what 'Hybris' symbolizes and you can feel it every second on the album. It was our longest trip. Giving up was never an option."

After Sabine Scherer, female power frontwoman of Deadlock since 2005, took a break during her maternity leave, she has now decided to leave the band completely to have more time for her family and her two children.
But no need to worry - with Margie Gerlitz, Deadlock has found the perfect replacement. Her work as a vocal coach ties in perfectly with the quality and inventiveness of Sabine, without sounding like a simple copy.
Songwriter Sebastian Reichl comments on the line-up change: "I am extremely thankful for everything Sabine did for this Band and I am happy that she issued the blessing to Margie. She is a fantastic singer, performer and she fits perfectly with the team. Please welcome the great Margie Gerlitz as the new female singer of Deadlock."
Margie Gerlitz states: "I'm very happy to have the chance to join Deadlock on the female vocals. Sabine and the boys formed a great band over the past years and I'm happy to be a part of it from now on. I'm looking forward to the future!" More...
A full year has gone by since Deadlock founder and long-term drummer Tobias Graf passed away last September. Tobias left the band due to private reasons earlier that year and sadly lost his battle against cancer on September 2, 2014 at the age of 35.
Even after some time has passed, it still seems hard to find the right words for this tragic loss. Under these sad circumstances the band has now released a memorial video, which can be watched below in loving memory - farewell Tobi!

Break out your tissue box and keep those cyanide tablets handy (just in case): you’re in for a bummed-out train wreck of an episode this week on the MetalUnderground.com Official Podcast. Stay tuned to the end, however, to see if your opinions match up with those of your silver-tongued co-hosts Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) and Mike Smith (OverkillExposure).
Before we begin, yet another reminder of our upcoming ticket giveaways at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. First comes The Black Dahlia Murder (supported by Suicide Silence) on Monday, October 13th, followed by Attila (supported by Crown The Empire and Like Moths To Flames) on Friday, November 14th.

Now, time to get depressed. Mike bids solemn farewell to an underrated talent in the global metal underground: Tobias Graf, founding drummer of German melodic/symphonic death metal group Deadlock, who this week passed away for undisclosed reasons at the young age of 35. Graf left the band in April of this year, but played on all releases since the band’s 1997 formation.
Next… here come the Thought Police! We wish it were a joke, but a Kentucky youth has indeed been arrested and charged with domestic terrorism threats… for posting Exodus lyrics on Facebook. The Bay Area thrashers’ 2010 album “Exhibit B: The Human Condition” featured a song titled “Class Dismissed: A Hate Primer,” which told of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting spree through the eyes of the deranged killer. The absurdity of this incident speaks for itself, but that doesn't stop us from commenting on it.
We all saw this coming over the course of the week, but still, it seemed to happen so damn fast. In the ultimate case of déjà vu, frontman Mark Hunter of Chimaira has been completely deserted by his bandmates en masse for the second time in three years. This time, he’s decided to throw in the towel, effectively putting an end to fifteen years and seven albums of cutting-edge American metal. Stay tuned for our thoughts on the matter.
Finally, we react to Swedish metal veterans In Flames’ new studio album “Siren Charms,” due for a September 9th release and currently streaming. Considering our devotion to this band through thick and thin over the years, our frustration in discussing this lackluster and disappointing new release is palpable, and it ain’t pretty.
Lifeforce Records has issued the following brief statement:
"Today we come to you with very sad news, long time dear friend Tobias Graf and founding member of Deadlock passed away at the age of 35. We can hardly express the sadness in our hearts and we wish his family all possible strength in these dark hours. Farewell Tobi and may you have a safe journey!"
The cause of death was not specified. Graf co-founded German melodic/symphonic death metal group Deadlock in 1997. He left the band in April of this year. Deadlock's multi-disc collection of re-recordings, "The Re-Arrival," was released on August 15th and is available now through Lifeforce.

The German metal outfit Deadlock has finished work on a new album, and label Lifeforce Records comments:
"With 'The Re-Arrival," Deadlock present their fans an impressive overview of their past work, which goes much further than the usual 'Best-Of' releases. Within the 30 tracks on 'The Re-Arrival' you’ll find some pretty rare and previously unreleased demo tracks from the very early days of the band’s history, complete re-arrangements of Deadlock classics and 3 brand new tracks with the new drummer and wunderkind Werner Riedl, which marks another step in the band’s evolution and which shows again, that guitarist Sebastian Reichl is a highly gifted songwriter if it comes down to hit potential of the tracks."
Sebastian Reichl comments: "The recordings for the new album have been a travel back in time for all of us and especially for me as the last remaining founding member of Deadlock. Browsing through old recording-tracks, sorting out and partly re-arranging was more than an emotional experience – keeping in mind I play more than half of my life in this band. Feelings such as pride usually don’t have all too much impact on what I’m doing, but exactly that feeling comes most close to what I felt. It was simply amazing to touch our old hits again and to pack them in a new up-to-date sound – thanks to the whole Deadlock family for the past years and the years to come!"
"The Re-Arrival" once again was produced simultaneously in different studios: aside the band’s own Slaughter’s Palace studio the band hit the Chemical Burn Studio in Bad Kösen again as well as for the first time the history-charged Chamäleon Recording Studios in Hamburg. More...

Deadlock has checked in with the following brief announcement about a lineup change:
"LINE UP NEWS - our former bass player Ferdinand will continue as second guitarist to replace Gert, who left the group in early 2013 for family reasons."
Here is Ferdinand's statement:
"It's been 4 years now, since I joined the Deadlock family. I started as the merch guy, did the tour-management and took over bass, when John hooked up with the mic - so it was just the logical step, to fill the vacant guitar slot. Recording with Basti is always a huge challenge for every musician, but we had a great time while writing 'The Arsonist.' I already like my new job and I'm glad to know, that everybody else in the band is happy with the solution we found."
