Pharaoh Issues EP Update

Pharaoh has checked in with the following update about upcoming new releases:

"The EP is done, mixed, mastered, laid out, ready to rock. Not sure when it will be out, but I'm guessing March or April? It's been too damned long, but what can you do?

"P4 is underway. Drums were recorded last summer, before a rash of baby births put Pharaoh and its extended family into deep freeze for a while. But, the kids've gotta learn about metal sooner or later, so it's back on the horse for us. Rhythm guitars were tracked this past weekend, and in an unusually quick turnaround for this band, vocal sessions begin this coming weekend.

"That said, there is a LOT to be done yet: clean and acoustic guitars, melody guitars, solos, bass, and of course singing, so we're not going to be done anytime soon, but the album will definitely come out in 2011, probably in the early fall (September would be nice.) And then, god-willing, we might actually do a proper US tour. But, don't hold your breath for that one. Keep your fingers crossed, if you're gonna do anything."

Fool's Game Readies New Album, "Reality Divine"

CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC has announced the release of FOOL'S GAME's debut album, “Reality Divine,” in September 2009.

FOOL’S GAME is the brain-child of guitarist/song-writer MATT CROOKS, pursuing new musical experiences after leaving his previous band DIVISION.

To carry on this project, Crooks recruited some excellent musicians among the ranks of his friends, and so FOOL’S GAME was born with the participation of MATT JOHNSEN (PHARAOH, guitars), LARS F. LARSEN (MANTICORA, vocals), JOHN MACALUSO (STARBREAKER, ex YNGWIE, ex ARK, drums) and NICK VAN DYK (REDEMPTION, keyboards).

The music of FOOL'S GAME is best described as a modern Judas Priest, mixed with an old-fashioned Iced Earth. Add a bit of each of the bands, the members have represented earlier on or are still part of, and you have a dark, thrashy, melodic power metal album.

Here is the "Reality Divine" tracklisting:

Mass Psychosis
When The Beginning Meets The End
Sowing Dead Seeds
As the Field Of Dreams Was Abandoned
The Conqueror Worm
Prelude To The Fair
She Moved Through The Fair
The Wild Swans At Coole
On Endless Planes Of Ignorance

You can check out some of the band's material on their MySpace page.

Nachtmystium Posts New Song Online

Chicago-area psychedelic black metal group NACHTMYSTIUM has posted a new song titled "Assassins" on its MySpace page. The track comes off the band's new full-length album, "Assassins: Black Meddle Part I", which will be released on June 10 via Century Media Records in North America and June 23 through Candlelight Records in Europe.

"Worldfall", the new mini-CD from NACHTMYSTIUM, will be released as a precursor to the band's upcoming full-length, and will only be available direct from Century Media as well as iTunes.

The "Worldfall" tracks were originally intended for a split with LEVIATHAN that has now been delayed due to legal issues with LEVIATHAN's record label. NACHTMYSTIUM will be recording new tracks later this year and releasing the split at a later date.

The "Assassins..." full-length was recorded in December at Sanford Parker's Volume Studios (RWAKE, MINSK, LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR, PELICAN) and showcases NACHTMYSTIUM's most prolific and expansive sounds to date. The record features Tony Laureano (ANGELCORPSE, NILE, DIMMU BORGIR) on drums, and spot appearances by members of PHARAOH and YAKUZA. More...

Pharaoh Post Another New Song Online

PHARAOH, the American heavy metal band featuring vocalist Tim Aymar (CONTROL DENIED), has made available a second song from its upcoming album, entitled "Be Gone". The song "Telepath" is now available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. Drummer Chris Black explains, "'Telepath' is about the erosion of human intelligence on a mass scale. There are other songs on the album relating to the general deterioration of human life, but this one has an almost psychological perspective. It's very sinister, and I guess that will happen when Tim and I collaborate on lyrics!"

Cruz del Sur Music has set an April 24 release date for "Be Gone", and the album may be pre-ordered now from Cruz del Sur or its North American distributor, The End Records. More...

Pharaoh Hard At Work On Third Album

PHARAOH, the American heavy metal band featuring vocalist Tim Aymar (CONTROL DENIED), has entered the studio to begin recording its third album, "Be Gone", to be released shortly before the group's first European appearance (and first show ever!!!) at Germany's Keep It True festival on April 5 2008 at the Tauberfrankenhalle in Lauda-Königshofen.

Commented Aymar: We're going to be finishing my tracks next week, and we'll be going back to the first couple tracks we did and adding a few artistic touches. These have been the most productive PHARAOH sessions to date, and the results are also the best ever. I've had a much easier time with these tunes, and even found it strange at times that there were not any major obstacles or technical problems. Oddly enough, no beers were involved in the vocal recordings. Coffee, lots of water, Matt's special throat tea, and black licorice were my choice of weapons. After a couple sessions, we did have a few beers though." More...

Pharaoh Name Third Album "Be Gone"

American metal band PHARAOH has set "Be Gone" as the tentative title of its third album, due later in the year via Cruz del Sur Music. Drummer Chris Black explains, "It would be misleading to call this a concept album, although there is a common thread to the lyrics throughout. We're working more closely together as a band on the songwriting this time, for both music and lyrics, so naturally we're seeing a more cohesive album coming together." Working songtitles for the album include "Dark New Life", "Cover Your Eyes and Pray", "Red Honor", "When We Fly", and "Ten Years".

Despite the widespread fan and critical acclaim surrounding its two albums, PHARAOH has yet to perform live. "We haven't had the right opportunity," says the drummer. "All of us want to do it, but only under the right conditions. [Vocalist] Tim [Aymar] is living in Florida now, I'm in Michigan, and the other guys are in Pennsylvania, so we're not exactly in a position to perform on stage unless the conditions and timing are 100%. And we always give priority to studio work, since that is what makes us PHARAOH. We are songwriters above all else, and that will never change."

The band is presently completing the songwriting and rehearsal process for a June/July recording session at MCR Studios with Matt Crooks — the same facility and producer responsible for the band's celebrated 2006 album "The Longest Night."

Pharaoh Chooses MCR Studios For Recording

PHARAOH drummer Chris Black reported that the band decided on MCR Studios in Virginia for the recording of “The Longest Night”.

"This is a full-service, modern facility, with a very metal-minded staff," he stated. "Tim, Matt, Chris and I are eager for their input in crafting the new record." Full-length albums from Division and Twisted Tower Dire are currently in production at MCR.

PHARAOH will begin recording “The Longest Night” in late 2004 for a projected release date in March, 2005

via the designer Italian metal label Cruz del Sur. Cover artwork will once again be provided by J.P. Fournier (Immortal, Dragonforce).

Featuring such tracks as "Fighting", "As Time Goes By", and "I am the Hammer", The Longest Night will be

PHARAOH's second full-length album, following up 2003's acclaimed After the Fire debut. "The new material expands the PHARAOH sound slightly," explained the drummer, "but the fundamentals are exactly the same: power, class, wit, and melody. We celebrate the traditions of heavy metal by advancing them. And it helps that Tim kills!" he added, referring to powerhouse vocalist Tim Aymar, well-known for his past work with Control Denied and Psycho Scream.
