Following a tour of the West Coast of the United States at the end of 2011, including a devastating performance at Rites of Darkness III, Australia’s epic doom sorcerers Mournful Congregation will return to The States in the weeks ahead.
The new tour will see Mournful Congregation returning to the U.S. on an eleven-date trek erupting out of Seattle on September 14th and surging its way down the West Coast, and ending in Denver on September 28th. The Adelaide-based Mournful Congregation will be joined by Colorado blackened doom act Velnias as direct support for all dates, and Tim Call from Aldebaran will be sitting in on drums for MC on this tour. Additionally, a limited edition screen-printed tour poster with exclusive art by illustrator David D’Andrea will only be available at these eleven dates.
This new burst of touring precedes a series of Mournful Congregation reissues, as the band’s current stateside label home 20 Buck Spin will be reissuing "Tears From A Grieving Heart," "The Monad Of Creation" and "The June Frost" full-lengths exclusively to North America. All three of these back catalog releases will be released on October 16th on CD and digital download.

Aussie doom merchants, Mournful Congregation have filled U.S. households with feelings of bereavement, loss and forlorn for nearly twenty years. However, this is the first time the funeral doom act brought its musical misery to North American stages. Doom, especially the extremely slow pace of funeral doom, doesn’t always translate so well under lime lights. Mosh-hungry concert goers might find its slothful pace paralytic to their limbs or these bands just don’t tour often due to one reason or another. Either way, seeing one of the greats in this field on their first North American tour was nearly as monumental as the group’s music.
After sharing the stage with Mournful Congregation just a day or two prior at Rites of Darkness III in San Antonio, Anhedonist, Ritual Necromancy, Pallbearer and Cruciamentum came together for one of best extreme metal bills featuring bands you’ve never heard of. Considering this show fell on a Monday (late Monday night) and included bands without a large following (the crowd seemed most aware of Mournful Congregation), fans squeezed into the tiny space in front of Mohawk’s indoor stage. Mournful Congregation is currently in the process of recording a new track for a split 7" record with fellow Australian doom metal band Stone Wings. This track will be entitled 'Descent Of The Flames', with the Stone Wings track being entitled 'Ascent Of The Flames'.
This is somewhat of a concept 7" with both sets of lyrics being penned by Chuck Keller (Order From Chaos, Vulpecula, Ares Kingdom). With corresponding artwork and musical parallels, this will truly be a unique and one-of-a-kind jewel in the doom metal annals.
It is unsure as to which label it will be released through at this stage, but expect its release late in 2006.
Damon from Mournful Congregation has recently lent his doomed vocals to a Fallen hymn. Of course this is the funeral doom band driven by Funeral drummer Anders Eek. The track is inextricably extreme and the results of this collaboration have proven to be truly doomed. What's more is that the lyrics to this hymn were penned by the late Einar Fredriksen of Funeral, making this a very meaningful track indeed. More news as to how it shall be released is soon to come.
There is also talk of a four-way split 12" LP in the works with three other extreme doom metal bands from across the globe including Loss. The artwork for this release will be handled by Away of Voivod. These collaborations will serve as the perfect predescessor to Mournful Congregation's next album which is set for a 2007 release.
The release of Mournful Congregation's new album 'The Monad of Creation' on Painiac Records is delayed at least until the beginning of 2005.
Confusion had arisen on several online mailorders about the release, which was originally scheduled for a May 2004 release and had appeared on some mailorder lists.
