i'm a huge maiden fan. but it looks like they awarded them a grammy for their legendary status rather than for a great performance in their latest album- the final frontier.
i'd say LAMB OF GOD deserved to win it.
In your Words is such a beautifully composed song..

As much as I've tried I still can't get into Final Frontier. I'm sure these songs would sound better live but this is not the album I'd grab if I needed a Maiden fix. Yea Grammys don't mean sh**. Jethro Tull won best heavy metal band in 88. Voters don't know sh** about metal

give maiden their dues, they've put out better stuff in the early days, it was like a token of graitude for all the albums, tours and hard work. in reality if this was an award for true bands and performances jethro tull wouldn't have even been nominated the first year, bands like MEGADETH, SLAYER, TESTAMENT are the real metal bands. MEGADETH should be holding the grammy, but like the name it's old and so is the award, grammy, come on. congrats to iron maiden always been a fan, but their old and not very relevant anymore. where MEGADETH, SLAYER are still putting out stuff with relevance. MEGADETH RULES!

There's a reason Maiden are bigger now than in their prime in mid eighties. Their live show! They certainly don't need a bullsh** Grammy to validate their greatness. Looks nice on the mantel but don't really mean sh**! 100 thousand S American fans singing your songs back to you means sh** at the end of the day. They sell out every show they do because they're a great live act

i didn't know who almost anyone was at the grammy's. miley cyrus and selena gomez looked good as fuh. can't wait for them both to get all trashy and slutty. imo, LOG shouldda won, just cuz i'm tired of the same bands at the grammy's and the obvious choice winning expectedly. and i have yet gotten around checking out them crooked vulture, so i will do soon.

The political dues were that iron maiden was going to be given the award by default , that was obvious. Their next due is megadeth , perhaps on next album. LOG will hopefully also receive one someday. Would be fun if they actually gave it to who deserves it. lol. I tried to watch the show but after a few hours and several pop circus performances later i was fed up with it. Had the volume turned down and was reading stuff lol. Either i missed the metal award or it simply wasn't part of the main show.

Iron Maiden deserved this years ago, anyone who says this new album is boring you dont like metal and thats why metal doesnt get any credit because you idiots think its too slow to long. This band has been going strong for 30+ yrs i am 38yrs old have been listening to them since i was 14 sound the same to me because i know good music when i hear it. Giving this band credit gives METAL CREDIT!!!! GET IT!!!!!!!

@ tomahawk waveshredder: You just typed one of the most f***ing stupid things I have ever read:
"but their old and not very relevant anymore."
So a band is suddenly not worth anything because of simply "age" or "relevance" (very conformist thing to say, the meaning of relevance differs with each person)???
You don't deserve to listen to metal. f*** off.
As with Maiden winning - Great for them.
But... The Grammy’s? There are more and more sh** r'n'b acts winning those "objects" every year. And in ‘88 Jethro Tull (who are brill but were not so brill in ‘88) won over Metallica (who were huge at the time). Who the f*** cares about Grammy’s anymore, even if they are considered an "achievement"?

@spiral_architect: Dude, Maiden have been going strong and successful for over 35 years WITHOUT mainstream attention or commercial airplay and they're one of the richest, most-loved bands there is.
It's a good thing that they don't receive much mainstream attention. When a band or musician goes mainstream they tend to sell out and are forgotten in under 5 minutes.
Maiden are one of the greatest acts on the planet that have never really sold out at all. They do it for the love and thrill of playing to fans young and old. The fact that they're all multi-millionaires with their own plane is just something that came alongside all the touring and music.

This was definitely a legacy award. Let's face it. El Dorado was not the best of the nominees. Both the rock and metal awards got most their nominees based off age. They stuck with a formula of pick one group thats current, and then fill it out with bands that have been around forever, so they must be huge. Just shows they don't listen to rock at all. Cause really, metal aside, can anyone honestly say Neil Young had one of the 5 best rock songs for the year?

Sorry kiddies but the mighty Maiden don't need any mainstream acceptance! They've done quite well for themselves 30 years now. I know there probably cool now. They don't need the accolades from fringe fans! To all the teenys who just discovered them ? Good for u. They certainly don't need your adulation ! Mother f***in Maiden ! Again for those who haven't paid attention. Stay away and get the f*** off my lawn !

The production on The Final Frontier is so bad that I cannot stand to listen to the entire album at once. I have to troop through it a couple of songs at a time.
