Dream Theater In The Recording Studio

Band Photo: Dream Theater (?)
Progressive metal act Dream Theater, which has recruited a new drummer but yet to formally announce who has taken the position after the departure of long time member Mike Portnoy, has entered the studio to record new material. Dream Theater's John Petrucci issued the following brief update from his twitter account: "First day in the studio and the dawn of a new era for DT. Can't wait to get the music flowing."
In other Dream Theater news, Mike Portnoy recently posted a message on his official forum stating that after leaving Avenged Sevenfold he had attempted to re-join the band but was refused by the other members. Additional details on the new Dream Theater material and any upcoming projects from Mike Portnoy will be announced as they are made available.

Whatever internal issues aside, Ill miss DT without Portnoy. However I am equally excited to see what the new drummer (Minnemann perhaps?) will bring to the mix, as well as what is next for Portnoy, who surely wont be laying down with his own projects!
Heres to one great band becoming two great bands!

Totally agree with Merlin. Loved what they've done with MP, but definitely looking forward to what they do next. I don't think, as Ego said, that MP did "all the work to get them where they are." I do understand that he did a TON of work with setlists and archiving and all of the behind the scenes stuff for the fans, but I think that he was simply 1/5 of the team that made the music we enjoy. I do believe that the fans will see differences in how the band is presented as I don't think JP, JR, JM and JL have the energy or the desire to take over all of the thinks that MP did, but for me as long as they focus on the music that is what is truly important.

I have faith in Dream Theater and the existing members. Their ex-ego-maniac drummer has taken WAY too much credit for what this band has accomplished over the years. Let's look at this whole drama logically for a second - one member wants one thing, the other four want something else - simple: get out, move forward and never look back!!!
There really is NO other option.
