Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci has posted the following statement online, in which he claims the band have now found it new drummer;
"Hey, everyone. Wanted to quickly let you all know what's been happening lately.
"I know that the big question is 'Who is the new Dream Theater drummer?' I also realize that some people are getting frustrated waiting for the news.
"Well, auditions went great and we do have someone but we are spending some time getting everything in order before making an official announcement. Let me just say that we are all incredibly excited about our choice and just bursting at the seams to let the world know!
"The Long Island Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony was a lot of fun and truly an incredible honor. DREAM THEATER is so thankful to the board to be recognized in that way.
"I've been demoing tunes for my next solo record at my home as well as writing and cataloguing riffs and ideas for the new DREAM THEATER album. We'll be in the studio come January which is already just around the corner. Can't wait!
"Been working on and developing a few new signature products which will be released soon. Stay tuned for details. Also, I've recorded a few demo videos for some of the gear companies I endorse which should be available to view soon. The one for the Zoom Q3HD is already up.
"Besides that, just practicing, lifting and taking care of the family.
"Life is great.
"I hope this message finds everyone well and again, thanks so much for the tremendous support."

As much as I love Portnoy, and his work on DT, and taking into the fact that he was the driving force of DT, I am looking forward to this album. A new face means new inspiration, and a new take on an old band.
Whether it is a masterpiece or a failure, this will be interesting.
I still can't even imagine who it would be.
It's not like Neil Pert is going to leave Rush or anything.
Portnoy like Pert, is a kung fu genius behind the kit.
There's fast...Tim Yeung, Sandoval etc...
Then there's gifted from birth Pert, Portnoy.
Whoever they get, they better be good.
fvckin wolf....classic! :) you're exactly right
brother FAN: even though blomberg is a pretentious goofball, he would NEVER sign up to play with these fvcking trundlers
though i think i get your point ;)
hey, did i mention that this essentially 'tribute band' never had it, and never fvcking will?
i can't fvckin remember :)
"hey, did i mention that this essentially 'tribute band' never had it, and never fvcking will?"
Really? How are they even close to a "tribute band"? I honestly think that all of DTs material has been creative and far from anything else in the genre over the years. I respectfully disagree with the label of "tribute band".
I knew a couple many years ago. The girl broke up with the guy. She expected him to be brokenhearted and cry in his beer. Instead he took it really well, and didn’t seem upset at all. She was so disappointed at how little this man that she didn’t want wanted her that she threatened suicide.
I don’t know why I told that story. It doesn’t relate to anything that’s going on here.

I'm looking forward to who the new drummer might be... but i do know that whoever it might be, this band is gonna have a whole new feel... and by the way, has any of u guys noticed how happy MIKE PORTNOY looks with a7x? he looks like he is having a blast with those dudes...
i'm happy for him, and as for DT i wish them nothing but the best with their search.

I was saddened to hear that Mike Portnoy decided to leave the band, I am however glad that he's wanting to follow his dreams. Weather it takes months or even years i really do hope that Mike goes back to Dream Theater because without him it will never be the same. Follow your dreams and follow your heart...
it's been my experience with bands that the drummer does NOT make a band. Drummers are there for the background and for making the music have a beat and sound better. They usually don't write the riffs or anything. I think all this drama kind of sucks, but I don't think they'll sound too different. They've had their sound locked in for years, and this probably won't change it.

It'll be hard to get used to DT without Portnoy but there are still 4 amazing musicians in the band and I'm sure the new drummer will fit great with them. I don't expect a drop in quality on the next record.
