The few snippets I heard sounded good. The usual Jerry Cantrel but good just the same.

The new album will be the best AiC album since Dirt.

I can't say I agree, Chazz. I mean we really haven't heard anything yet. I will say I am "hoping" this will be good, but I wasn't a fan of where their sound was going on their self-titled album in 1995. "Dirt" was a disturbing album. It gave me the same feeling I had when I left the theatre after "Se7en" and the "Dawn of the Dead" remake. Like an empty, hollow feeling in the pit of your stomach. I want that again, honestly :)

Netro- I agree, man. Dirt made me feel depressed as hell. I think that was the intent of the album. Your description was spot on. It seemed like each song was a personal tragedy, considering the state of mind that the band and Layne were in.
Each song was cool, but so dark and depressing..a fabulous album that will go down as one of the best in metal. I actually like the self-titled quite a bit.

Netro: I wouldn't get my hopes too high for another Dirt. I'm not saying it can't or won't happen. I just don't see it being a likely outcome. You are a smart man. I'm sure you already know why.

Txmetalhead: What about Sap, Jar of Flies and Facelift? What's your opinions on those ones?

Love 'em. Alice in Chains and Soundgarden were the only bands I continued to listen to after the "grunge" fad died down. I own every Alice in Chains album. I actually remember sneaking out of school to go to my guitarists house because he said I had to listen to this amazing new album called "Facelift" :)

Hey Chazz - thanks for asking me. I happen to love SAP the most...but Facelift and Jar of Flies kick a$$ too. Same as Netro - I actually discovered Soundgarden before Alice In Chains. My friend let me listen to Facelift, than I got hooked on AIC too.

Same here, man. I was blasting Louder Than Love and Ultra-Mega OK when no one knew who the hell Soundgarden was. Also had a few of their older EP's as well. Screaming Life, Flower, SOMMS. Wish I still had SOMMS actually, their version of Into the Void was kickass.

I discovered a lot of grunge in the mid-90s, long before you two (Txmetalhead and Netromancer) did.

No offense, but Soundgarden was around since 1984 or so. I had heard them on a compilation with Green River, Malfunktion and The Melvins. I had Screaming Life from '87, Louder Than Love at it's release in '89, and owned Ultramega Ok from '88. I also bought Facelift the year it was released 1990. Few years before the mid-90's.

I was born in 1976 and I was in high school when got into grunge around 1991 or so when I was in high school. I've owned a lot of CDs from Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Mother Love Bone, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees and many grunge bands around at the time. Ah, bringing back the memories

I love grunge music. Almost everything by Soundgarden is amazing in my opinion. Them and Tool, I could listen to either of those bands all day. My influences on the guitar were after Kim Thayil and Adam Jones. Some people don't consider Tool grunge, but that is how I like to think of them =D

I really never understood how all these bands from one area, all with fairly different styles were lumped into one musical name. As for Tool I don't know if I agree Jake. When they first came onto the scene it seemed thay had more in common with bands like Helmet. A totally stripped-down minamalistic crunch. Sure they have expanded their sound since. I suppose you could say they have alot on common with bands like Alice in Chains or Soundgarden rather than the fuzzbox 70's vibe of Mudhoney or the more classic rock inspired sound of Pearl Jam. Definately on par with the bleak and dismal lyrics of AiC.

Netro - it definitely sounds like you were following Soundgarden way before me...I actually heard a song on the radio - and picked up Bad Motor Finger...but yes, almost all of Soundgarden is amazing. I would even pick up songs they contributed to soundtracks..like Birth Ritual - bad A$$ f'ING song! I do have Flower, Ultra Mega Ok, Louder than Love, etc. now. F - yeah - Kim Thayil is sick on guitar, always has been...I wished he would get back into music in some capacity. As for Alice In Chains, they are a great Seattle band, as well. Very dark vibe...such cool riffs.
