Fairly closeminded are we? I think I can use this site and not think that Dimebag was one of the 10 greatest guitarists ever. I enjoy a couple of Pantera's albums, especially Cowoboys from Hell. However, they were nothing too original, they originally were glam metal. They then changed their sound to thrash metal, and then to grovve. Dimebag was a good guitarist. He was not bad, but he was not great either. I think Dimebag has suffered from Kurt Cobain syndrome, his skill and value being overblown after his tragic and untimely death. Pantera was influential, however their influence is mostly on nu-metal bands and metalcore bands. While I enjoy some bands from these genres, they definatly are not my favorite, or would I consider them the best. I also don't think that Pantera "saved metal" from Glam Metal and from Grunge. The metal scene in the 1990's was strong, with Black Metal, Death Metal, and Melodic Death Metal starting to become very popular genres. I enjoy Pantera, however, I believe that Dimebag and Pantera in general have become ovverated since his untimely death.
