Killswitch Engage has tapped Brian Thompson to direct its video for the cover of the DIO classic "Holy Diver". The shoot will take place in the Calistoga, California area the weekend of June 16-17.

KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's cover of DIO's "Holy Diver" was one of several exclusive tracks that were made available on a special CD accompanying Kerrang!'s 25th anniversary issue (street date: May 31, 2006). Entitled "High Voltage", the 15-track disc was made up of classic rock and metal songs covered by contemporary bands, with 10 of the tracks recorded exclusively for the CD.

I enjoyed the remastered selftitle quite a bit.
Jesse Leech is a great vocalist even if his lyrics are meh and tilt toward moral platitudes that dull the music. I streamed their latest album and wasn't moved.

They're very good at what they do it just ceases to capture my interest.

This is fail. "Holy Diver" is a classic and Killswitch Engage are just one of those flavor of the week type mall metal bands for teenagers. I'm sorry but they are no better than kings of false metal themselves, Trivium.

On the other hand, I do not consider KsE "just one of those flavor of the week type mall metal bands for teenagers", since they actually made that type of music BEFORE it became "flavor of the week type mall metal" music. They are the front-runners of their genre, and it is merely unfortunate that most of the bands following in KsE's footsteps ARE sh**ty mallcore teenage bands.

psythe is completly right, They are the front-runners of their genre, in 2003 for me they shifted the music i listen to from more mainstraim metal and nu metal like Drowning Pool, Disturbed, Korn, Slipknot SOIL Mettallica into metalcore bands like In Flames, Shadows Fall, Unearth, As I Lay Dying, All that Remains A Life Once Lost, Blood Has Been Shed, Atreyu, Lamb of God, Trivium. God Forbid etc. I love Killswitch's sound they are my favorite band.

kings of melodic metal? no my friend, i do believe that honor is reserved for manowar!

i didnt think that this cover was that bad. i didnt like the limp metalcore screaming one bit, but the singing was actually decent.

overall, i dislike KsE

KSE are awesome at what they do and so is this cover they made. They definitely deserve to cover the song. I think what pacifront83 means is "melodic metalcore" and manowar ... dont know what to say about em. Power metal doesnt do it for me, Manowar are definitely not the kings of melodic metal.

KsE are great. I agree that Leach was a better vocalist than Jones, but the Dio cover is awesome. I saw em in Seattle and it was great.

One part of As Daylight Dies that i didnt enjoy all that much was the clean vocals by Adam D. And as for Leach being better vocally maybe, i mean his clean singing vocals sound a little better then Jones, but too me Howard Jones screaming is allot better then Leach. KSE is probally the only band i enjoy listening to that has come from "Metalcore", i still dont see any similarities to Hardcore Punk in their sound?
So i dont see why they call them a "Metalcore" band.

It really doesn't matter if they're leaders of their scene or not if their scene is boring metalcore. You probably don't see the similarity to Hardcore/Punk because todays metalcore has a) evolved by itself and b) takes influence from post-hardcore (ie bands like Refused) rather than what alot of other people think what hardcore is (ie Minor Threat). Is that not obvious?

Since I don't really care about things that I don't consider to be metal I just lump it into mallcore these days, and my friends know exactly what I mean.

i agree with pacifront, i mean... they are leaning a lot more towards the metal side. The Metalcore parts of their music is kinda fading away. Especially on their newest album.
