if it was 1987,..i bet all of you groupie tool defenders would be sticking up for brett michealson...or nikki sixx...you know...i heard the lead vocalist from def leppard is a blackbelt too....are you guys all about the tiger beat issueof tool yet?
THE VIDEOS ARE NOT REAL.....REACH DOWN.....COME BACK TO REALITY!!!
these guys are rockstars.

Uhhh I'm fairly sure that Tool made a video for "Vicarious", there's at least 8 or 9 of the same edit on YouTube, and the reason it hasn't really officially been broadcast is 'cos it's kinda f*cked and not really that great.
And I would have to concur, I'd love to see Maynard take some f*cker out, especially if he was still blue. That'd rock my socks.

Tool?....rockstars?....maybe....hehe, tiger beat.
However, they've managed to maintain a level of critical respect, that Motley Crue and Poison never achieved....Black, thrash, tech and death metal purists will even point out the bands strengths.
That said the latest albums didn't match any of the previous albums.

15. writes:
if they are so critically approved why do you have to defend their name?
the security of knowing the band is truly great would render you silent...letting the music do the talking...tool is a franchise...not credible music..thats why you rush to their defense.....death metal purists?...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHAHA!
16. writes:
Well a) isn't this exactly the place to be discussing the merits of a band? and b) wouldn't the security of knowing the band is truly crap render you silent? And to me, all logic would suggest he's "rush(ing) to their defense" because he likes their music.
By the way exzoomer, what bands do you actually like?

sh**...you want a good release...check out blutch...the 2006 lp materia,...also,...feast for the crows..have a 2007 release...its killer metal..or the new onslaught..i'm an old man.....and a published critic......this is my job.
and every critic is an a$$hole...as i am.....plus...its good for you kids to get a different opinion about candy metal,....not this bullsh** hero worship
DEAL with it
19. writes:
Way to dodge my points. Well, Undertow is probably my least favourite Tool album so say as you will, but I don't see how Lateralus or Aenima could in anyway be called "rehashed" or "artistically starved". Ok, they're not metal, that's not an automatic death knell.
I have a long list of bands to check out, thanks I'll add Onslaught to that list but EM tells me Feast for the Crows are "Melodic Death Metal/Metalcore" so I won't waste my time.
20. writes:
exzoomer said "DEAL with it"
Thats my favorite expression when I want to come across as a condescending and all-knowing d***.
It resonates more than saying "Top that!" or "I'm the lofty, discerning expert and you're not". It's disguising his opinion as cold, hard fact and I love it.
The self deprecating "old man","a$$hole", "differnt opinion" bit almost makes it classy.
I'm so tickled by that remark I'm getting off the topic.
I'm "rushing to their defense" because self proclaimed critics are fun!!
You either have something earth moving to say or you crumble and resort to name calling and obscure band name dropping...A telling sign of insecurity....The latter of which is already underway, no surprises.
Part of why (prog)-death and tech bands are rising to notoriety(read:paying the electric bill) is due to Tool fans looking for a similar dynamic, that is either more or less melodic, heavy or complex.
A critic HAS to know this!...
If you can't grasp the value of Tool as having an important impact on metal then I pity your readers.

obscure bands.....these f***ing obscure bands are your future favorite bands...you better spread out...find some real talent...get out of that goddamned bubble you live in ...i had a buddy in a band that opened up for mastadon back in the 90's in a basement in a town of under 4000 people population.....you go ahead...and repeat things about megadeth...metallica....tool...and dimebag....and i'll continue to find out about bands that you will decide are cool 10 years from now mr. poopy pants....remember....stay SAFE....don't get your horizons too broad.....tool is soooo cool.....and soooo deep

23. writes:
Just because is band is mainstream, doesn't mean they lack talent. Tool is one of the few bands who can be mainstream and have creds with people in the underground, because of there unique sound. They are also very solid muscians. I am glad you have found bands that are on there way up, I also listen to garage bands that i believe will make it big. You talk about getting your horizons broad, but yet the only bands you ever claim are good are the ones who aren't big. Seems like if you denounce all mainstream as safe, then you won't be able to enjoy all the music that is available.

Hit a nerve? Hardly.
Did it take you an entire 30 minutes to find a way to respond to my last post after the monumental "grow a pair" remark?
You left yourself so open to being dismissed as a child, that you had to come back with your pre-natal bands as exhibit a on how informed you are.
"i'll continue to find out about bands that you will decide are cool 10 years from now".
That statement assumes an awful lot about a person you don't know. My active support of struggling grind and metal bands in my region has no place in this arguement. I fail to understand why you are using that angle.
We --were-- talking about Tool, if and how they impact current metal acts. Not, who opened for Mastodon in 1999.
I'm sure Mastodon are dismal in your eyes but thats one act among hundreds that claim influence from Tool.
What kills me is that you think someone can't hold an old standard setting band in high regard and still enjoy an upstart death metal act.
I thought we had a reasonable debate going until words were put in to my mouth (tool is soooo cool and sooo deep) and piss-poor insults (mr. poopy pants).
Cynic was right, post when you can make a valid point and stop dodging mine.

tool has more talent then many bands out there. They dont give a f*** about anyhitng and still have awesome songs. it a new edge to rock or metal. Also, thier giving music in general more freedom to go out of the norm but, still having a high pitched singer which many bands like led zepplin, motley crue and wolf mother have. i think that no one can like tool alittle either you love them or ya hate them

Yes and no. 10,000 Days Is their least impressive cd. Try AEnima, I think it's their strongest work.
exzoomer.
You hang on to every letter of my small novels.
I type lengthy posts. Visit a few the other threads, it has no bearing on you or my mood.
You havent addressed any of the points I've made (let alone virtually anything Cynic said to you). Your instigating a confrontation for the sake of it, rather than having a dialogue and you don't support any of your opinions.
Where I got the idea we could debate our conflicting views is beyond me

i'll tell you what,....this whole thing got started by me mentioning how much i'd like to kick maynerd's ass,....lets stay on topic this is not about YOUR points...this is about me,..wanting to beat his ass,....ok?
trying to deviate from the topic is like ed gein trying to talk about his egg salad sandwitch...when investigators were asking him about his graveyard antics.
you are a classic control freak...who can't handle anything that opposes your elite opinion....so i'll tell you what...
tool rules...they made a HUGE contribution to music today...
megadeth is a SUPER band...and anyone who says differently...is an instigator,...trying to provoke people to wrath...
your points are valid....i'm wrong...
your right.....i'm bad .....you are good......i'm fat....you are skinny.....i'm ugly....you are good looking.....k?
i am wrong for not addressing cynic...his points are valid,...and shouldn't be ignored......as are your points....please...PLEASE forgive me...

Anyway, Tool just played a festival in New Zealand and I'm really hoping they're gona come back and do a full tour so I can see them.

I'm not trying to be right, I was trying to have a discussion with you. I do believe that I am right but I genuinely wanted to know what the basis for your opinions were.
Why are you pouting? The faux passive aggrssive bit and the compliant metal head rants are toddler-like behavior.
I wasn't even responding to your kicking Maynards a$$ post. It was pathetic. I did think post 8 had legs to stand on but it's clear you have nothing of value to say.

i'm not here to please you,..you equally self righteous pig..from now on....it will be only compliance....i will bond..with your little "METAL COMMUNITY" (f***ing cheesey assed term) and rock out to whatever you are rocking out to...but remember one thing.....metal sucks....its not talented...its cheesey...juvenile..garbage...all of it..every aspect of it....RUBBISH..until you geeks can stop taking it so seriously...you can sit back...and laugh...well then my friends...you will be free of regurgitated bullsh**...and just because this "remember metal" wannabe...plays god in his little website...doesn't mean he is an authority on anything but mental masterbation.....enjoy the music....but for christs sake...stop taking it so serious.....its loud, annoying, overbased undertalented powerchord rock...these guys should be identified with...not worshiped......by the way,...what the f*** is maynard wearing...something les claypool fished out of the bay?...he needs a parade permit to wear that in canada i bet.

Wow the posts on this page are insane. As for "RemeberMetal?" I have respect for you and the things you say. As for "exzoomer" if you don't like metal then why do you bother to post things on a metal website.
Sure there are tons of great bands who have a ton of talent that not many people know about and thats kool, but this news topic that we should be responding to is ABOUT TOOL'S NEW SINGLE.
So I would like to adress this news. I personaly like the new album and this song, and I feel that it is a good choice. This was not their best album, but its different and progressive so that makes me happy.

Hell yah dude. TOOL is awesome. Yet 10k days isnt there strongest tree, it is still holding up the forest. Jambi is a great single and i will enjoy hearing it as a single. I was planning the trip to bonnaroo this year as well and now im excited to see TOOL will be performing. Woot acid trip to live TOOL!...Just gunna add it next to my mental trophy of when i watched The Wall haha!. TOOL is a band needed in our time of demise in this world. Its bands like TOOL that help me on with my week when i feel down or bad sh** happens. RM all your posts have been awesome and you have very well thought out points. I understand when someone is to thickheaded is unable to have an intellegent debate on an argument they may have started. Maybe if Ex read some of TOOLs lyrics hed brighten up, but then again..you cant fix stupid.

I got a few things here. 1) Exzoomer is a jackoff who once was plugged into the scene and just because your "pal" opened up for Mastodon doesn't make you the Buddha of Heavy Metal. You are either a has-been or a never-were. 2) Anyone who HATES Tool needs their tin-assed ears operated on. Please note that I said "HATES Tool", not "DISLIKES Tool". Hate is a strong word and music is a extremely personal thing, sometimes. I can understand someone not "getting" Tool, but to HATE them is downright ridiculous. Obnoxious at best. Everyone is titled to their own opinions, but if you actually believe that there's a metal drummer out there better than Danny Carey, you either 1) haven't heard Danny Carey, or 2) You are a burnt-sh** gay-face. And I don't mean a FASTER drummer because any drummer can learn speed. If you're talking a fast drummer, then Origin's drummer takes it. If you're talking a skilled and talented drummer who can focus on his craft, then Danny Carey wins. And no matter how much you DISLIKE Tool, there are some things you have to admit. Maybe you don't like Van Halen, but you can't HATE them because David Lee Roth wore crazy leotards, right? Look, I HATE a lot of bands. SOAD is one of them. But Daron's a pretty unique guitar player, and for that I give him credit. I also DISLIKE a lot of bands, like, oh, Story of the Year, or some sh**. I DISLIKE them because I csn't think of a single thing about them that stands out. Not a damn thing. I'm sure someone on here is a HUGE fan of that crap, but I can't HATE them, because I'm not educated on them enough to HATE them. Learn about Tool before you go throwing HATE around in their name. This isn't just about "expanding your horizons", it's about growing the f*** up. Don't flame a band just to piss someone off. Well, acutally, that's pretty fun to do. So, yeah, keep doing that, just remember to give credit where credit is due. In a world where music is no longer a tangible thing, and so easy to get your hands on, at least Tool is trying. And that's more than anyone can say about the f***ing Murderdolls. Or f***ing Dope, or 36 Crazyfists. If you're going to HATE, do it for the right reasons.

Amen to 95% of that post Crawford.
Carrey is one of my favorite drummers but calling him the "best" is tough. He's in the top 2 percentile, thats for sure. So many great drummers past and present, even in bands that I don't like.
I'm going to have to think about who my favorite drummer is now......

56. writes:
True, remembermetal?. There are some awesome drummers out there and I'm sure there's at least one better than Danny Carey. Danny Carey makes me wish I would've became a drummer instead of a guitar player. Now that I'm older, I see that guitar players are a dime a dozen sometimes and drummers are pretty rare. At least the good ones are. Maybe Joey Jordison, he's pretty talented. Somebody like that I can understand. To be technical isn't everything, I guess. Speed definetley helps. Carey plays fast, just not all the time, like Joey. f***, even Jizmak from GWAR can hold it down when he needs to.

58. writes:
In terms of recent drummers...
I agree with Jordison he is very impressive, given the mostly average skill of the rest of the band....Funny thing is, he claims he's more of an axe-man.
Mastodon's Brann Daylor took my head off, the first time I heard him I was beside myself....I'm not a big fan of about half their material but...jesus christ....some of the things he does just havent been done. Chris Pennie (DEP) and Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, SYL) also rank similarly.
Martin Lopez formerly of Opeth matches Carrey in terms of being mega-gifted and a personal favorite of mine.
Now playing: Type O Negative: "Red Water"
