I am really hoping it is not the final ozzfest...I went last year and I thought it was awesome. Not only the main stage bands, but I also like walking around all day in the sun listening to the second stage bands. But I do remember taking a survey on ozzfest.com asking how important the second stage bands were to you......

Yes, last year's Unholy Alliance Tour and SOTU were definitely much better than the crap Ozzfest was selling. To have A7X on Ozzfest last year was a mistake as they aren't even metal. Alice in Chains may not be metal (as a previous post mentioned), but it's f***ing Alice in Chains. Put Dark Tranquillity on Ozzfest. How about Arch Enemy again? Mudvayne? I don't know what this announcement will be.

I wanted to go to ozzfest in toronto but when my buddy told me that it was SOAD that was the final band I was glad I did not go. I thought he was gonna get to see BLS and ozzy. But ya looking at the line up I am happy I did not go. My buddy enjoyed ozzfest more than Unholy Alliance that we went to. So I guess he would rather see disturbed, A7X, SOAD and hatebreed rather than bodom slayer and LoG. But if they get very HEAVY more underground bands it would be kick ass

I don't think Alice in Chains headlining Ozzfest is anything to get overexcited about, I don't even know who the new singer is. I am a big fan of the band, but thats no groundbreaking announcement.
If the headline said "Sepultura Reunion On Ozzfest" that would be something cool.
They should also put some bands from other countries on the bill, like Susperia or Dark Tranquility, someone who is a little less often touring the states.

15. writes:
yea i agree an import-heavy bill is in order. or even some of the newer bands on the metal scene in america...job for a cowboy, the faceless, cellador...definitely wouldnt draw as big of a crowd as a mudvayne/SOAD/gay kind of thing, but at least the crowd would be like 10 times happier.

16. writes:
ozzfest is such a waste of money anymore. Every year there are like maybe 3 or 4 good bands if that on each of the fest's. The merch is so freaking expensive(but yet so many bands act as if they are underground and what to stay that way). Half the bands that play ozzfest break up or are a totally different band in 2 years, and the food/drink prices are completely outrageous and sure enough dumb drunk a$$holes would definitely pay for it.

23. writes:
dude, im really hoping that they dont go back to indoor concerts... The whole experience of ozzfest is to hang out in the scorching sun, and just have a kick a$$ time... even tho sometimes they do get gay a$$ bands on the bill... who cares... ozzfest still kicks ass... atleast they have tours like this.ya no. im hopin maby ozzy will say like... MORE BANDS TO THE LINEUP... i mean sh|t concert starts at 9 in the morning. statr it at 8 instead... last years ozzfest there was thousands of people waiting in line to get in at 730 ot 8 in the morning in san fran.. it was crazy.... Its called dedication... when i went the line had plenty of people to start an hour earlier... doubt thats the announcement... but i really hope its not the last year or indoor venues.. that would f*ck^n suck... no matter what bands are on the tour... well not really as long a$$ its not some p*ssy s/*t like A7X....but wat ever.... thats my opinion...

I agree trey, If metallica played at ozzfest, which has ALWAYS been my dream, i would sh** my pants.....and yes, st anger did suck but just imagine if they played songs off kill em all, master of puppets, ride the lightning, and and justice for all? wow i think i'm getting too excited. i'm just a die hard metallica fan, even though their last few albums really bit the big one...

31. writes:
ozzfest is aweful and has been for the last 3 years. sounds of the underground and unholy alliance offered more quality bands (not to mention for less money). however, i think ozzfest is still a huge draw for a lot of people. metallica playing that tour would be cool if they also announced that all they would play was "Master of Puppets" and "Ride the Lightening" tunes.
32. writes:
idk its probably gonna be a lame announcement. but i hope there still is as much bands. wether it be indoor and rotate like the first gigantour, or out side like it should be. ive never been to ozzfest because the lineup hasnt been that good for the past couple of years. metallica would be cool but idk better line up deffinatly

37. writes:
I wouldn't doubt that Hell Yeah would be on the tour. But Korn won't be on Ozzfest, they'll be on the Family Values Tour. If Ozzfest turns into an inside festival then they need to change the name because that's just not ozzfest and it's not a festival anymore. Even vendors would lose money on it.

39. writes:
Shut up about the outdoors already, you damn hippies. I wish I could wrap my head around why people enjoy listening to god awful music and buying over priced sh** they don't need while they bake in the sweltering heat. But, please, by all means, continue to support Ozzfest so Ozzy and Sharon can keep spoiling their retarded children.

44. writes:
I woulda enjoyed the Gigantour this year if the sound was better at the Congress Theater in Chicago. All you could really hear was some vocals and drums. No guitars at all. Maybe they just needed a better sound guy. But I agree that was a good tour. Especially to me Arch Enemy, Lamb of God, and Into Eternity.

54. writes:
No, okay...I have an idea to combine some of the other posts so far. This is the lineup I may expect to see:
Metallica, Alice in Chains, Guns and Roses and Rage Against the Machine MAIN STAGE.
Dimmu Borgir, Dark Tranquillity, HELLYEAH, and Ozzy (with Black Sabbath) perhaps on SECOND STAGE!!!
THAT WOULD f***ING RULE.

56. writes:
Metallica - never performed on Ozzfest.
Alice in Chians - new singer and album.
G&R - New album.
RATM - New album.
Dimmu Borgir - New album.
HELLYEAH - great band hopefully and new album.
Dark Tranquillity - New album. Hailing from Sweden.
And of course Ozzy. WHY NOT?

59. writes:
I think you're just speculating. I don't think the reunion is permanent. Personally I don't like RATM much. I dunno about in America but over here they're really overrated and quoted by every Commie. "f*** you I won't do what you tell me!" Blatant and defiant lyrics and a catchy song but when you got wannabe Che Gueveras putting it as their msn name it just gets annoying and in a way sad. RATM themselves are good and everything, I've just had them shoved down my throat so much I don't like the taste.

I'm not impressed with Sharonfest. The only year I was interested was when they had Lacuna, LoG, God Forbid, Hatebreed, Devildriver, Slipknot, Slayer(when Lombardo came back), Priest(when Halford came back), and Sabbath playing. There were too many bands I didn't care for on the bill, and everything just ran too long. The only festival type show I look forward to every year is ProgPower. A better venue, spread out over 3 days. Fewer bands, but the quality of the bands and the whole experience is just better.

You know, why can't we all just get along? I thought metal fans were all in this together to see some kick @$$ bands. I went to last years Ozzfest because I love both A7X and Disturbed. And I'll tell ya, they brought hard and heavy just like any other metal band. I don't understand why metal has to be about tearing someone's face off and repeatedly stabbing them to death for you guys. Try opening your minds up a bit. I'm not trying to hate on anyone here, I'm just trying to say that maybe you should sit down and listen to some bands that are a little outside the box, and see the good things they're doing for all of metal.

63. writes:
I like Disturbed, Dragonforce, and Lacuna Coil. A7X, while not one of my favorite bands, do show some promise to be good (if they'd lose that fake punk/gangbanger wannabe image); hell I liked City of Evil. It's like this: Sharonfest has a few good bands that appeal to the older crowd, one or two good new(er) band(s), and a whole lot of the MTV, processed, talentless cookie-cutter bands that I don't want to give my hard-earned money to. I'd much rather wait for a tour where it's all bands that are good and talented, but because they're "not radio and MTV friendly" or the American record companies say they're not marketable to a wide audience they don't get the recognition or respect they deserve. Sure, I like some of what is now bigger names in metal, and there's some big names that honestly shouldn't be, but there's always the freedom to choose, and I'm choosing not to go to another Sharonfest unless there's some real talent involved.

Goddam that's a really good point! And to the hobbit, you ain't making any good points there man. No one said metal was about "tearing peoples faces off and stabbing them repeatedly" (which is a really close minded statement in and of itself). Most of us just don't like bands like A7X because we think they're sh**. Pure and simple.

65. writes:
As far as that "tearing people's faces off and stabbing them repeatedly"-if you want that go see Cannibal Corpse(also never played Sharonfest). Metal traditionally comes form a place of rage and disdain for society. That's why real metal bands by and large cannot be sanitized and packaged for widespread consumption by TV and radio.

"This will change everybody’s impression of the way touring in the summer in America should be."--Sharon Osbourne
Imagine a day of wall-to-wall hard rock.
Imagine the world's greatest headliner sharing a bill with cutting edge new artists.
Imagine if this brass-knuckled beast was hellbent on coming to your town.
Imagine this earth-pounding event...FOR FREE.
2007 will forever mark the year OZZFEST spiked the concert industry's punch and gave every head-banging American kid a reason to strap on an air guitar with the historic announcement that tickets to the summer’s premiere touring concert festival won't cost fans a dime.
Testing one, two, three...
That's right, OZZY and SHARON OSBOURNE and tour producer LIVE NATION broke the news today at the Concert Industry Consortium in Los Angeles that their 12th annual hard rock spectacular--a 25-date extravaganza launching July 7 in Los Angeles--is pulling the plug on ticket prices and giving the power back to the fans calling this summer’s OZZFEST "FreeFest." The other OZZFEST cities as of now are San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Albuquerque, Phoenix, Dallas, San Antonio, Kansas City, St Louis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Pittsburgh, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Hartford, Charlotte, Atlanta, West Palm Beach, Nashville. Note: a final confirmed list of cities and dates is forthcoming.
"For the last few years," says SHARON, "ticket prices have steadily climbed as artists demand more and more money for summer tours. We certainly want everybody to make money, however we also want the kids to be able to afford to come out and have an incredible experience. If we continued with the traditional touring festival model, we would have no choice but to raise ticket prices again this year."
Cited as “one of rock’s biggest juggernauts” in the cover feature of Sunday's New York Times' “Arts and Leisure” section (6/25/06), OZZFEST and Live Nation will turn to sponsors to provide added support for the festival's new incarnation. This summer’s OZZFEST will provide select sponsors with a unique opportunity to engage fans one-on-one utilizing one of music’s best known brands.
"We're reaching the same point we did years ago when kids no longer wanted to pay for overpriced CDs," compares Sharon. "As a result, they found alternative ways of getting music. That’s what’s happening with summer touring in this country, it’s out-pricing itself. We started this and we want to keep it and we want to make it bigger and bigger each year by getting bigger sponsors to be involved with the festival and underwriting the festival. That’s what it’s about."
“For the past 11 years, music fans have made OZZFEST the most successful and enduring rock music festival in the United States,” said Jason Garner, Live Nation President of North American Concerts. “What better way to say ‘Thank You’ to the music fans who have made this possible than inviting them to attend OZZFEST for free.”
To gain entry into the event, fans will go to www.ozzfest.com or www.livenation.com to find links that will direct them to special sponsor sites where tickets can be secured. More details regarding the process are forthcoming.

As OZZFEST’s founder and namesake, OZZY will make his triumphant return to the headlining position on this year's mainstage after surprising fans last year by performing on the down-and-dirty second stage at a handful of dates. Audiences can expect the Prince of Darkness to unveil new songs from his forthcoming studio album, OZZY’s first disc of new material since 2001. While the rest of the in-progress bill is under wraps, Sharon points out, "we have bands committed, but we’re hoping that after today's announcement we’ll have a whole influx of artists who want to be a part of something this ground breaking. We know there aren't any major headlining acts that would tour all summer for nothing, but we're confident we can turn some of the genre's biggest bands on to what we're doing and have them come out to play a date or two. If they're in town and want the rush of performing in front of 20,000 frenzied kids, they're more than welcome to join us. They can sell their t-shirts, CDs and whatever else they've got. They're also welcome to book their own shows in local venues on the day of OZZFEST. I’m not stopping them. People have to be creative and think of alternatives."
Since 1996, OZZFEST has been a virtual breeding ground for rising bands. The festival has been instrumental in igniting the careers of platinum-selling artists like System of a Down, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Incubus, Slipknot, Queens of the Stoneage and Godsmack. Along with supporting bands on the rise including Avenged Sevenfold, Mudvayne, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and Lacuna Coli, among others.
“OZZFEST was created to keep this genre of music alive by showcasing new talent," states Sharon. "You better believe we’re going to keep perpetuating that by hand-picking compelling new bands that are hungry for OZZFEST's career-making exposure."

Exzoomer...yes, I've been p***ed at Ozzie ever since his "No More Tours" tour...ya. I fell for it. It ended up ok because I got to see Alice in Chains with him. The REAL Alice in Chains. Which brings me to my next point...out of respect for Lane, one of the most talented singers of my generation (and the real God of Grunge...not Kurt), let it go already. Jerry Cantrell is very talented and I have all the respect for him but it never works trying to remake a band. Take a lesson from the mighty Led Zepplin....lay it to rest.

the last time i went to ozzfest was 2004 and it was by far the best concert i went to that year. i was planning on going in 2005 but it had a gay line-up just like 2006. they should go back to hardcore underground bands, not bands like dragonforce and soad, but log, hatebreed, etc.

whoever said rage would play ozzfest, no. that would be nice, but last show is in LA. the only people that think ozzfest sucks are the poser kids that call themselves metal but arent. poser kids say they like brutal metal. such as? if they thought last year's ozzfest sucked, with the red chord, unearth, and strapping young lad playing, then those people arent very brutal at all. And, ozzfest is about the outdoors. if your gothic little a$$ can't withstand the heat, try another color than black OR dont wear clothes that 5 people can fit into. save that for more aired out tours. also, with previous ozzfests nearing close to 20 bands, and this year's only 5 to 6, regardless of whether it's free or not, it will probably suck because not too many bands will play for free. and you cant look forward to taste of chaos this year with bands like 36 seconds to mars and what the used? gay. not to mention, last time they had a free tour for a big band such as Damageplan, what happened? Dimebag got murdered. why? because no money is made to pay security guards which means no patdowns which leads to weapons and violence. and with inside venues, spots will be limited and there will be many rules like no moshing or crowd surfing or in chicago, no smoking. outside venues, you can do whatever the hell you want. granted it's hot, so what. it's nice because you wake up that morning knowing you're about to get a full day from 8 am to about 11 pm of pure metal and freedom and now we're enclosed inside with maybe 3 or 4 hours of crap in a nasty, non-smoking area like chicago which is where i'll be at. bummer. and now that tours will be inside, no jagermeister bus. that's where all the signings are at. ive met so many bands at the jager bus and now it wont have anywhere to go. i know the guy, his wife, and now his daughter that drive it. that was their career. the hell with that now. all in all, i guess everybody just has to sit tight and wait for sh** to happen because even if this isn't the last year for ozzfest, not too many people will be going next year unless it returns to its natural outdoors habitat once they realize how chaotic it'll turn out inside. don't get me wrong, chaos is a great thing, but not indoors. too much security. hope for a good outside ozzfest.
