System Of A Down To Launch Political Campaign

System of a Down are set to launch a three-day campaign in Washington DC for the recognition of the Armenian genocide.
Singer Serj Tankian and drummer John Dolmayan will kick off the campaign on April 24. Their aims are to urge Speaker Of The House Dennis Hastert and other Congressional leaders to acknowledge the historical event in which Turkey allegedly slaughtered 1.5 million Armenians between 1915 and 1923.
At 5pm the band members will join the Armenian National Committee Of America and Armenian Youth Federation in leading their demonstration outside the gates of the Turkish Embassy.
The following day, Tankian and Dolmayan will give interviews to the political media in Washington before hosting a congressional screening of 'Screamers', a new documentary by filmmaker Carla Garapedian which focuses on System Of A Down's global campaign for the recognition of the Armenian genocide.
Key members of Congress will meet with the band on the Wednesday (April 26) as the musicians urge them to allow a vote on legislation recognising the genocide.
At 5.30pm, Tankian and Dolmayan will take part in the eleventh annual Capitol Hill commemoration of the historical event.
Before the three-day campaign in Washington DC, System Of A Down will perform at their yearly 'Souls' benefit concert in Los Angeles on April 23.
Taking place at the city's Greek Theatre, this year's concert will be raising awareness for an Armenian Genocide Resolution.

this is stupid for the following reasons
1) SOAD fans will enjoy this mainly because they like their music, and they will support their opinions ONLY because they are fans of their music, not necessarily because they have strong "political" feelings.
2) mainstream america will dismiss SOAD because they are a "metal" band who say the word "f***" and attract annoying fans

I haven't posted here in a long time but, this is absolute BULL S-H-I-T!!!
I like SOAD but, what does the Armenian Genocide have to do with the United States? Why should we have to recognize it? What are they trying to accomplish? If SOAD wants someone to recognize it, they should go to Turkey and have them apologize as well as recognize it!! Pointless sh**

Historically It will change how America deals with Turkey in the future.
The Turkish government has spent bundles to prevent our government from recognizing the Armenian Genocide....Turkey works as a sunny day conditional ally, but like Germany during WWII...Turkey slaughtered 1 million plus of it's own inhabitants.
Heres a link to some legitimate info about the cause. Theres "some" propaganda in there (considering the source)but it is a noble and just cause....whether your'e politically right or left this thing is a matter of histroy and justice.....
A large number of Republican senate and house members are in favor of this and most of the democrats are as well...Bush hates it but he's hated in his own party now anyway....

The reason we as AMERICAN'S should be concerned is as stated before by REMEMBERMETAL.The NAZI's did the same thing dureing WWII (and would love a chance to do it againe). When you ignore or forget history. You may as well be allowing it to happen againe. If the U.S. has turned a blind eye to it in favore of monitary thing's.What does it say about our government & how long will it be before something like that happen's here? It's definitley something to think about.

the reason americans should care is because you are not the only nation in this world. there is pretty f***ed up sh** that happens in the world that you choose to ignore. this is an example, its history from other countries, in other words general culture. sayin "who gives a f*** about armenians, this is america" is a very ignorant and self centered statement. this is the kind of attitude that makes other cultures dislike americans. is like thinking all spanish speaking cultures are mexican.
that was my two cents on culture. as for music, SOAD isnt exactly the best band in the world and the political regards made in their music dont really come out as too significant, they seem forced into their music.

I'm not an SOAD fan, but I'm for their cause. It puts an awareness out their that not only Nazis have done this. And as far as starving children go, that's a terrible tragedy, but this should further a cause for that as well. They may be 80 years apart but they're related, and they should coincide, like a domino effect.

somebody help, i hear 'em, they're coming
they're coming, i hear 'em, somebody help
when they came for you i didn't care, i wasn't concerned about somebody else
another life that passed in time, me so grateful it wasn't mine
you screamed, you fought, you pled, you cried, i sat back and watch you die
deep within, i said it's a shame but didn't do a goddamn thing
you know i could have spoken out, because we're indifferent i sealed my mouth
in the way they came for you, is the way they're coming for me too
{chorus}
tribes condemned and damned, then killed, by the encounters they welcomed here
all they asked was peace to stand and freedom remain throughout the land
but begat a treaty here, treaty there, treated unfair
what was theirs was taken away, it escalated day by day
audacity is what you have for indian-giver to leave your mouth
all the stakes of pain for sake that soon this hate would fade away
yet prisons called reservations were established for the american natives
when refused what's beheld, the calvary troops then prevailed
the sought and caught, then killed at will the fugitives who ran away to live
{chorus}
a crime somewhat that's well rehearsed another gay in the back of a hearse
diversity in society, who's taught to destroy what's not our belief
review the stats of the hate-crime fraud that's most accredited to the name of god
truth be told, it's fear unknown, adopted philosophy that's made your own
it delegates you rights to kill, when matthew shepard deserved to live

What cold and hardened souls, that cannot feel melody.
I support S.O.A.D. beause I love their music. I don't have to agree with every lyric stated to enjoy it. Much of it has little to do with the Armenien genocide anyway. I think what alledgedly happened is a horrible tradgedy for those who may be affected from it personally. On the other hand, as a white middle-class American, I can hardly argue in a realistic way, that this cause should concern me. But It could be the other way around! So for that much at least, it does. Don't be such a p***y. 9/11s happen for a reason you know. It's a form of reaction just like everything else is cause and effect. And this country is no longer what it used to be, anyway. You should remember that every government in history has fallen, and usually for the same reasons. (Not even people who are supposed to like the same kind of music can seem to get along anymore. sh**, I'm sure we all dig a lot of the same underground bands too.) System does not advocate terrorist killings of innocent people. What they're doing is speaking what's on the minds of human beings everywhere, about a globalizd 21st century world. The GENERAL message behind their songs is in fact integral to millions, and thus makes the music more powerful...politics done right, even if some out-of-date patriotic dork disagrees.

Sevenchurches is not an official spokesman for Slayer or Death. Both those bands are great, and so is System Of A Down.
P.S. Your a$$ juice w/ aids drink would probably go down better if you chase it with your mother's sweet cooch water.
m.reign and I will really have to stop arguing with you mentally and emotionally challenged wastes of human life. You can have your stupid little internet blog site back now.

I don't really blame SOAD for doing so much stuff about the Armenian Genocide, and to make it even worse the Turkish government are denying the whole thing. It's kinda hard to hide 1.5 million deaths.
