Sevendust Play with Nonpoint and Wicked Wisdom

Band Photo: Nonpoint (?)
February 02, 2006 – Ft. Wayne, IN
Piere’s Nightclub
I started this evening with mixed emotions about the first group Wicked Wisdom, which Jada Pinkett Smith is the singer. Could actress/model actually produce worthwhile metal? The answer to that question is YES! Jada hit the stage with a fury that I did not think was possible from this pint-sized rocker. This band has seemed to have a hard time being accepted in the metal community but I highly disagree, I think they kicked ass! I really think it's great to see Jada following her dreams and producing the music that's near and dear to her heart. Despite all the negative feedback from the Metal World.
Wicked Wisdom Set List

Next up was Nonpoint. This is when the real fun started. The crowd broke into a ruthless pit, which I jumped into head first for most of their set. They rocked out all their classic jams like “What a day”, “Mindtrip”, “Circles”, and “Victim”. These guys always have and always will rock! They produce an energy that you can't help but mosh to. When the dust settled, all I could say is that Nonpoint is one badass group!

Then the headliner Sevendust hit the stage, these guys cranked it up about 10 levels! Their performance kicked me square in the ass and kept coming back for more! Sevendust front man Lajon Witherspoon's vocals were nothing short of awesome. Band mates Sonny Mayo(newest memeber), John Connolly, Vincent Hornsby, and Morgan Rose didn't disappoint either! Sevendust is one of those bands that you cannot fully enjoy until you see them live, trust me! Sevendust is an innovative stylistic musical equation that never ceases to amaze me! If you have not seen these guys yet, get your ass to Ticketmaster!

Only band on here I can say for certain that can pull off a compelling liveshow is Sevendust.....In all likelyhood they are the best band to come from their era and style (Mudvayne and Soad put on pretty decent shows too) aside from that, I can't say anything positive about Nonpoint and Wicked Wisdom is total garbage.
Sevendust could probably put together a better set list (Assdrop?)...They're leaving out a massive chunk of live crowd pleasers both heavy and poppy (Live Again, Home, Speak, Seperate, Disease, Too Close to Hate, Angels Son) in favor of some pretty random sh** (Face To Face, Wired, Disertion)
It's they're show not mine but they've been working some pretty weak songs into they're set these last few years.

I think that is a good set list. "Ass Drop" is "RumbleFish" I've only seen it called that on this site.
Sevendust is playing the heavier songs again. Another good thing is the balance from all of the albums. They played the same setlist for about 3 yrs, mainly songs from animosity and seasons, i think this change is good.
I do agree they should play "speak and too close to hate" but it's cool when a band adds a song they haven't played live (Wired) in about 8-10 yrs.
Last Pantera show to come to Chicago, b4 they called it quits, they played "Slaughtered" of far beyond Driven. i hadn't seen them play that in many years too.

RememberMetal? I totally agree with you that Sevendust puts on a great show. I think mudvayne is pretty good too but I haven't seen SOAD so I can't say anything about that. I'd have to add though that Ill Nino is soooo good live. I think they're even better then on there CD's. But to this post Sevendust is AMAZING live or recorded!!! I have Wisked Wisdoms CD, I got to Ozzfest too late and missed it. I think that the music is good but I don't think the singing goes with it at all, but that's just my opinion. idk I'm just putting in my two cents.

The metal world is alive and well Symbolic.....Sometimes we just see eachother as village idiots because our tastes are so differnt.
First, Opeth are just about my favorite band in the world....Somewhere in my top 5.
For what they are, Mudvayne are --decent-- but by no means in the same ball park as Opeth.
Soad are very good live.....Animated is the word I'm looking for...and they don't often miss a note....Heh, but they are not metal....Metal is sort of in their bag of tricks but it's not their defining style.
Ill NIno are terrible live....period.
And Wicked Wisdom are bad both in the studio and on the stage.
The only bands from the Nu-metal set I defend are the ones that sound the least like Korn/Staind/LinkinPark/Limp Bizkit/Papa Roach etc.....
And I think thats pretty much limited to:
Sevendust (more groove oriented).
Soad (lots of styles and nuances packed into bite size songs)
and Mudvayne (Good bassist, even better drummer).

Opeth sucked balls live plain and simple. I saw them in Chicago and they didn't even move around. Nevermore kicked there asses earlier in that set. I don't care for Nevermore's singer but amazing guitar. And I don't like Opeth at all but they are very talented musicians. It's my opinion so I don't give a sh** what you have to say about it Symbolic.
And thank you Remember Metal? once again that you have an excellent point that we all have our own tastes. And Symbolic you need to open your mind to other things. So do you not like any bands that are part hardcore? Because it seems to me that what you're saying is that Ill Nino isn't metal, they have metal in them if you don't think they're straight metal. Okay, I see your point. But can you only listen to one genre of music? WTF. I mean yeah I hate emo and punk also. But I can't like someone because they're not all metal and even if they are mainstream. Who cares? You can go kill yourself.

I also saw Opeth in Chicago, and I don't know many of their songs, but wasn't doing anything so a friend and I checked it out, one thing is for sure, they didn't suck by any means.
I do go see Sevendust everytime they come to Chicago, that means I was at the tour that Ill Nino
opened. I'm a fan of Ill Nino's 1st album, but they did kind of suck live. With the exception of the percussion, they were mediocre.
As for S.O.A.D, I've seen them at fests and as openers probably like 4 times, decent live band, I just don't like 'em.

I don't like that with Opeth they have like 4 songs in every song. When the song chould be over they go into another one. Songs shouldn't be 8 minutes long for almost every one on the CD's! It just gets really boring. I'm not saying that the individual guys suck as musicians, I just don't like the bands music. They are all really talented but I want to listen to one song when I can listen to 3 or so from another artist.

Post 22 Noones trying to take your opinion from you.
I love Opeth for the fact that Opeth have such long form songs...I like 3-5 minute pop-format songs like most people but Opeths long form songs, to use a cliche, are a bit of a journey....Each song has so much to convey (though sometimes they'll repeat a part or two more than needed) that to cram it into conventional radio time is to remove a chapter of the book or an act of the performance....Thats just my view on it....
Plus I think people have differnt attention spans...Thats why grind and punk bands can start and finish a song in one minute and some prog and metal bands (Tool, Meshuggah, Opeth) demand a bit more time.
25. writes:
I agree with you guys, but I love Opeth.... I tend to think of them as more of head music. All though there last couple of albums did do rather well, you kinda just have to, i guess, prefer longer songs. and remembermetal, I think, now this is just me speaking, that every song conveys a sense of emotion, some just convey a longer one or like you put it "a bit of a journey"... also if opeth were to every play a 15 min gig, you would only get to hear one song.. that would be kinda funny.

27. writes:
Opeth has got to be the best band out there right now BAR NONE ! I say this because it really does seem to be all about the music with them and yes every song is a journey. Not to mention the fact that everyone in the band seem's to be an extremely technically sound musician.Well worth the money for purchase and the time to listen.

31. writes:
It's stupid that most of you a$$holes don't care that people have there own opinons and it's stupid as hell. SORRY that I don't like 15 minute songs! I said they are good musicians but I don't want to listen to songs for so long! F U C K you guys and you can kill yourself.
