From Autumn To Ashes Cancel Brisbane Concert

Vocalist Francis Mark of the Long Island post-hardcore act FROM AUTUMN TO ASHES has issued the following update:

"For anyone who will be attending the Soundwave festival in Brisbane [on February 23], I am sorry but I cannot be there. The band flew to Australia yesterday but I have to stay back in New York for a few days. This is due to a very sad event in my personal life. I am sorry and I thank you for your understanding. I'll be meeting the band in Sydney where we will start the tour. We are not cancelling any other shows, just Brisbane."

Formed in 2000, FROM AUTUMN TO ASHES became known for their bruising live shows and for deftly marrying melody to the punishing, aggressive hardcore sound. The band released their first album, "Too Bad You're Beautiful", on Ferret in 2001 that went on to sell over 100,000 copies. The band signed to Vagrant in 2003 and released "The Fiction We Live" (over 150,000 sold), followed by "Abandon Your Friends". More...

Shadows Fall To Reissue "Of One Blood" In April

Massachusetts metallers SHADOWS FALL will reissue their Century Media debut, "Of One Blood", on April 15.

Commented SHADOWS FALL frontman Brian Fair: "It is almost impossible to believe that it has been nearly a decade since these songs were laid down at Planet Z. Zeuss had barely finished putting together the studio and we had barely finished writing these songs, but here we where recording our debut for Century Media. It was a very hectic time as the band was getting to know each other and our sound was evolving constantly."

"This record captures that sense of urgency and exploration and was the groundwork to everything we would go on to accomplish. We never imagined where we would find ourselves today." More...

Slayer Wins Second Metal Grammy Award

Slayer took home the award for Best Metal Performance for their song "Final Six" at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards Sunday night in Los Angeles. The song off their latest album, Christ Illusion beat out tunes from Shadow's Fall, Machine Head, King Diamond and As I Lay Dying. Some of the metal award finalists actually walked the red carpet normally reserved for more mainstream celebrities.

Tom Araya took his place at the podium and thanked long-time producer Rick Rubin and the academy.

"It's...most of all (I'd like to thank) Rick Rubin, who has been with us, been there for us, for the past twenty-three years, twenty-four years, so thank you. My wife, my two kids, Sandra, Errol and Tommy. They're here with me. Of course our manager who has been with us for a good twenty years now. Well, thank you very much. Thank the academy. Thank you."

Araya also talked backstage that perhaps with two Grammys they could be considered unearthed from the underground.

"This is awesome. I guess we're part of the industry now, above ground. None of those tunnel diggings anymore. No, this is our second win actually. It's kind of exciting. We've been fortunate to have been around this long with no radio play. We've gotten support from satellite radio recently, MTV gave us minimal support, but it's all on word of mouth and people liking what we do and passing it on to their friends. We owe a lot of our success to our fans. The industry is great, but the fans are the ones that take the time to look you up to see what you're doing, wait for the record to come out and buy it so..."

Slayer won for "Eyes Of The Insane" last year (2007), and have two other nominations to their credit. More...

Shadows Fall's "Redemption" To Be Used On ESPN

Shadows Fall frontman Brian Fair says that ESPN will be using their song "Redemption" from "Threads Of Life" will be featured during the plays of the month on NFL Live (check local listings for times). Here's Brian's complete posting:

"Seriously ... I didn't think this year good get any better for a Boston sports fan like myself; but now it has.

"First the Sox won the World Series, then the Celtics got KG and the best record in the NBA, the Pats are only one game away from the first 19 and 0 season in NFL history and now I find out that ESPN will be using our music on NFL LIVE!!!!!!!! Our song "Redemption" from THREADS OF LIFE will be featured during the plays of the month on NFL Live, which airs daily on ESPN (check local listings for times). I think it will be the perfect soundtrack to all the hard hits and Tom Brady touchdown passes from the post season. As an ESPN junky, I could not be more stoked to have our music grace the channel that consumes most of my days.

"Maybe we can record a metal version of the SportsCenter theme song next!!!! It's Super Bowl week my friends so get the beers on ice and crank some tunes to get ready for the final showdown of the season. Tom Brady and the boys will be tough to beat on Sunday but my uber - superstitious nature will not allow me to make a prediction. Just rest assured that I will be on my couch with a cold Budweiser in my hand and my old school lucky Bledsoe jersey on screaming at the TV. All the haters can suck it because even when we lose, Boston is better than you!!!"

"At the end of February we will be beginning our Australian and Asian Invasion!!! It has been years since we have ventured to the other side of the world to unleash the metal on our Australian and Japanese fans and this will also mark the first time we land in the Philippines.

"I couldn't be more excited to leave the snow and wind of Boston behind for some sun and fun in the land of Oz!!! We will be part of this year's Soundwave Festival tour and the line up is amazing, covering a wide variety of music and styles. From there we will head to Japan with our partners in crime in ARCH ENEMY. I have been waiting to get back to Japan for awhile so heat up the sake and chill the sapporos 'cuz the SHADS are coming back!!

"Then it is off to the Philippines for the first time. Playing in a new country is always an exciting prospect and I can't wait to check out the scene.

SHADOWS FALL recently received a Grammy nomination in the "Best Metal Performance" category for "Redemption", the first single from the band's newest release, "Threads of Life". This marks SHADOWS FALL's second Grammy nomination in the category, following the group's nod at the 2006 awards for "What Drives The Weak" off the Century Media release "The War Within".

The 50th annual Grammy Awards will be held at Los Angeles' Staples Center on Sunday, February 10, 2007.

SHADOWS FALL's overview of its years as a Century Media recording act (before signing with Atlantic for the U.S. and Roadrunner for Europe), "Seeking the Way: The Greatest Hits", was released in late October.

A SHADOWS FALL B-side from the "Threads of Life" sessions called "Stupid Crazy" is included on the "Resident Evil: Extinction" soundtrack, which was released on September 18 via Lakeshore Records. The film itself hit theaters on September 21.

Shadows Fall Frontman Speaks On Vegeterianism

Unmistakable with his trademark knee-length dreadlocks, SHADOWS FALL lead vocalist Brian Fair appears in a brand-new pro-vegetarian ad for peta2 — the world's largest youth animal rights organization. The tagline — a personal testimonial by Fair — reads, "I became a vegetarian many years ago after listening to THE SMITHS' 'Meat Is Murder'. It opened my eyes to the painful lives of animals raised for food, and I knew I wanted no part of that. I am Brian Fair, and I am a vegetarian."

The ad debuted in the December issue of Decibel magazine.

Fair kicked the meat habit when he was in eighth grade, and he credits his vegetarian uncle for teaching him about the health benefits of a vegetarian diet. He is often asked by fans why he stopped eating meat, and he explains to them that a commitment to positive social change is perfectly consistent with heavy metal. "It's such a myth that you would have to kill in order to live," says Fair. He wishes that more people would watch peta2's videos about factory farming and slaughter and make their own decisions. "If you aren't horrified, then you're a cold, lifeless human," he says.

Fans who can't get enough of Fair and SHADOWS FALL are in luck: Visitors to peta2.com can register to win a Guitar Hero II video game featuring "The Light That Blinds" from the band's "The War Within" album. The game will be signed by all the band's members.

Fair joins an ever-growing list of musicians — including LAMB OF GOD, Rob Zombie, Trent Reznor, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, RISE AGAINST, and Tommy Lee — who have teamed up with peta2 and stepped in front of the camera to inspire kids to challenge outdated, cruel attitudes about animals.

For more information, and to enter the contest, visit www.peta2.com.
