GWAR Cancels European Tour Dates

The European leg of GWAR's "Return of the World Maggot" tour, scheduled to kick off in January 2012 has been cancelled after several promoters pulled the plug on shows, citing poor ticket sales.

GWAR spokesman Dave Brockie commented on the tour's cancellation: "Several of the promoters were alarmed by the low ticket sales, and they decided to start pulling the plug on shows. It got to the point where we had lost so many shows that we simply could not afford to do the tour."

Brockie continued: "We are super disappointed that this happened, and we apologize to all of our European fans for cancelling the tour. We did everything we could possibly do to save it, but it just didn't work out. The tickets are fully refundable so make sure you get your money back!"

In other GWAR related news, Oderus and Balsac were recently "hired" by MTV's Next Movie to review the new Steven Spielberg's new epic, "War Horse." Are your Mutant Overlords the next Siskel and Ebert??? Find out here.

GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot also passed away in November, and the family recently released a statement regarding the cause of death and a fund to raise money for Cory's surviving family.

Cory Smoot's Cause Of Death Confirmed

The Smoot family and Slave Pit Inc. have released a statement regarding the official cause of death of GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot. Cory had played the character of Flattus Maximus for over ten years, and was discovered dead on the band's tour bus on Nov. 3rd of this year. He was 34.

Stated North Dakota coroner William Masselo, MD:

"We have finalized the autopsy report and death certificate. I have determined that Cory died from a coronary artery thrombosis brought about by his pre-existing coronary artery disease."

The band, which will continue as a four-piece until the current tour schedule is complete, has officially retired the character of Flattus Maximus, and has announced no plans regarding a new GWAR-tarist.

Metal Blade and GWAR have since set-up the Smoot Family Foundation to raise funds for Cory's wife, Jaime, and their unborn child. Donations can be made here. Also, at The Canal Club in Richmond, Va. on January 7th there will be a record release show (featuring Mensrea, Cannabis Corpse, DBX and more) for Cory's solo record, "When Worlds Collide," which he had completed working on just prior to his death. The album will be released early next year, with all proceeds going to the Smoot Family Fund.

One of Metalunderground.com's contributors was also recently on hand at a GWAR concert in New Orleans. You can check out a report from the show at this location.

GWAR European Tour To Go On As Planned

Ancient Antarctic metal marauders GWAR will carry on with their plans to tour Europe in January 2012, despite the recent death of guitarist Cory Smoot, during the bands "Return of the World Maggot Tour."

Said GWAR spokesman Dave Brockie a.k.a. Oderus Urungus-- "When Cory died, we all wanted to go home and take care of the family and our own grief. But the best way to do that is by playing all the shows we have planned. The response from the U.S. metal community and especially the whole international GWAR family has been overwhelmingly supportive...these GWAR fans need the chance to pay their respects to Cory, and cancelling any shows would deprive them of that.

"Let's make these shows a celebration of Cory Smoot, one of the most amazing players in metal...I am calling on the European GWAR family to get out there and drag everybody in sight to these gigs! We shall honor Flattus Maximus in the only way we know how...by rocking the fuck out!!!"

The Smoots, GWAR, and Metal Blade Records have created the "Smoot Family Fund," and GWAR and Slave Pit are calling on the metal community to support Cory's family in this tragic time. Donations can be made here.

"C'mon everybody from our rock star buddies to the most zit-covered bohab," said Brockie. "Cory had a growing family that is going to need help-for a long time. Of course GWAR is doing everything we can, and we need you to help as well."

Cory Smoot of GWAR Was Going To Be A Dad

GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot, who suddenly died on the band's tour bus last week, was about to be a father, according to his obituary. Smoot's wife, Jamie, is pregnant and is due in June 2012, the obituary states.

The moving obituary, posted on the website of Bennett Funeral Homes in Virginia, recalls Cory as "tender-hearted," "generous," and "loyal."

"Cory's identity was not that of 'Flattus Maximus,' a man-made creature created by Gwar. Cory is a real legend that was taken too soon in life and away from his calling as a son, brother, husband, father and musician," the obituary states. "He will always be remembered by those who truly loved him and knew who he genuinely was. He will never be forgotten! Cory's legacy will continue through his only child who will arrive to meet family sometime in June 2012."

A public memorial service is being held Friday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home Chesterfield Chapel, located at 14301 Ashbrook Parkway in Chesterfield, VA.

The family has also set up the Smoot Family Fund. Details on how to give will be forthcoming.

GWAR, meanwhile, has continued its tour but has canceled a show tonight in Oregon and another tomorrow in San Francisco so the band can attend the funeral.

Here are the remaining dates of the tour, which also includes Every Time I Die, Ghoul and Warbeast: More...

Dave Brockie Speaks About Cory Smoot's Death

GWAR lead singer Dave Brockie has released a statement regarding the passing of guitarist Cory Smoot, aka Flattus Maximus. Below is the entire statement:

"After a restless night spent hurtling through the desolate Canadian wilderness, I crawled from my bunk on the tour bus to face reality, grudgingly aware that the the dark dream that gripped us would not fade with the day. We have lost a brother, a husband, a son, and one of the most talented musicians that ever slung an ax. Cory Smoot, longtime lead guitar player for the band GWAR, has passed at the age of 34.

"As the singer of GWAR and one of his best friends, I feel it is my duty to try and answer some of the questions that surround his tragic and untimely death. I know the sense of loss and pain is far greater in scope than in the insulated environment of a band on tour, and I will do my best to provide what clarity and comfort I can.

"The most glaring question is how? And unfortunately that is the hardest question to answer. The truth will not be known until the medical officials have finished their work. All I can do is relate what we saw with our own eyes. More...

"It is with a sense of profound loss and tragedy that the members of GWAR must announce the passing of their longtime guitarist and beloved friend Cory Smoot, also known to thousands of metal fans worldwide as Flattus Maximus. Cory was found deceased this morning as the band prepared for a border crossing. There is no word as to the cause of death and the members of GWAR are completely shocked and devastated that this has occurred. At this point there is no word on arrangements and the disposition of the remainder of GWAR's current North American tour, nor are there any details regarding long-term plans. At this point we are just dealing with the loss of our dear friend and brother, one of the most talented guitar players in metal today. We ask that our fans and the media be respectful of our request for privacy for those that have suffered this terrible loss. A full statement will be coming in the next day or so, in the meantime please give your thoughts and your prayers to Cory, his family, and all the people that love him."

Metal Videos To Get You In The Halloween Mood

Last year Dan from Autumns Eyes wrote up an article on the Top Ten Halloween songs in honor of that most metal of holidays. This year we’re taking a look at those metal songs with music videos to get you into the proper Halloween mood, and to start off we’ll head into the most crazy, over-the-top, and outright ridiculous videos to be found in metaldom.

Gwar – “Immortal Corruptor”

Anything involving both Halloween and metal pretty much automatically is connected with Gwar. The “Immortal Corrupter” video has got pretty much everything a good horror flick should have – monsters, skeletons, torture, disembowelments, and a flaming drum kit that shoots gouts of blood. If you already hate Gwar there’s no way this clip will change your mind, but nobody can claim it isn’t monstrously entertaining.

Gwar to Appear on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon"

Gwar will appear for the second straight year on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" on Thursday October 27th. The group performs as part of its "Return of the World Maggot" tour, which begins next week.

Oderus Urungus spews,"We are overjoyed that Jimmy had the good sense to invite us back, as we had planned to return anyway. Now Fallon can do the show with his head still attached to his body."

Oderus had this to say about the upcoming slaughter-fest - "Ever since we acquired a Skumship (GWAR's intergalactic war-barge), we have had to spend more time off-planet, you know, killing stuff, so we couldn't visit as many shit-hole clubs as we would normally. That means all you GWAR bohabs will have to show your devotion by driving endless miles in dangerous vehicles just so you can be ripped into shreds and have your girlfriend devoured by a giant worm."

In other news, Gwar has announced Jamison Land, a musician from Louisville, as new bass player/gladiator, Beefcake the Mighty. Land comes to Gwar from the punk group The Burial.

Gwar's GWAR-B-Q Segment Airs on G4 Tonight

G4's "Attack of the Show" will air part of Gwar's second Annual GWAR-B-Q tonight at 7:00 Eastern (4: PM Pacific). The episode will repeat throughtout the week and the segment will be online at the "Attack of the Show" Web site.

The footage comes to us via Gwar's performance on Saturday, September 17th. G4 host, Candace Bailey documented the performance and even travelled through the rancid guts of The World Maggot.

Lead skull-splitter, Oderus Urungus comments, "Candace Bailey had on the tightest pair of jeans I had ever seen. It looked like they had dipped her halfway into a bucket of blue ink, and it outlined her camel-toe perfectly,"

More GWAR-B-Q Details Revealed

The sickest party ever just got even sicker as Slave Pit Inc. and Metal Blade Records announced new details of the upcoming GWAR-B-Q, which takes place on September 17th, 2011. Joining the festivities will be none other than Metal Blade recording artist and VH1 "That Metal Show" co-host, comedian Don Jamieson, who will be performing a stand-up set on the main stage of the event. Jamieson will also be joining the star-speckled judges of this year's "American A-Hole" competition, which will also include Oderus Urungus' alter ego Dave Brockie and will be hosted by none other than GWAR's manager, underworld mogul Sleazy P. Martini.

Said Jamieson, "As a fan of GWAR since 'Scumdogs of the Universe,' I am honored to perform on the same stage they will undoubtedly ejaculate on."

GWAR is also happier than "an Orc in an orphanage" to welcome notorious malcontent and "Jackass/Viva La Bam" star Chris Rabb, a.k.a. "Rabb Himself" to the festivities. Rabb, who has recently been showcasing his talents behind the camera with his new project "Hot Dog Casserole," will be calling the action at the GWAR-B-Q's version of extreme sports, "the Spew-Olympics."

Not to be outdone, homeboy and Lamb of God lead singer Randy Blythe will be judging the GWAR-B-Q Cook-off, and local bike gang The Cutthroats will be presenting a special bike-jousting event. But just because the GWAR-B-Q is over doesn't mean the fun has to end. After the GWAR set, head over to McCormacks Irish Pub for the official GWAR-B-Q after party, featuring Hex Machine, The Landmines, U.S. Brass, and more.

Full details are available by heading over to GWAR's website here.

GWAR-B-Q Lineup Announced

Metal Blade Records and Slave Pit Inc. are once again teaming up to put on the wildest party of this or any other summer…the 2011 GWAR B-Q is on for September 17th at Hadad's Water Park, featuring two full stages of rock before the final, climactic performance from the mighty GWAR. And this will be no ordinary GWAR set (if such a thing could exist…) as original GWAR bass player Mike Bishop (the first Beefcake the Mighty) will join the band for a very special set of songs from the "Scumdogs" era, before turning over the stage to the latest incarnation of the universes most dangerous band!.

"After slacking off for easily four or five minutes, the slaves of GWAR are back at it, laboring ceaselessly to satisfy our muddied desire and provide you with the sick shit you crave," said crass uber-thing Oderus Urungus. "Everyone is ordered to attend the GWAR B-Q and pay homage to their undead overlords of necrotic filth, US, the mighty GWAR, and maybe even join us for a yummy grilled baby-ass."

Main Stage
GWAR
Darkest Hour
Kepone
Mensrea
DBX
Groundscore

Second Stage
Battle Master
White Cross
The Occultist
Bloody Crackdown

In addition to all the great music, there will be BBQ cook-offs, the return of The Spew-O-Lympic's and American A-hole competitions, a jousting exhibition from the Cutthroats Bike Gang, a Bloody T-Shirt contest and of course, all the fun that Hadad's Lake offers. Tickets are available here.

Gwar Vocalist Kicked Off Fox News' Red Eye Show

Gwar frontman Oderus Urungus has apparently upset the folks at Fox News and is not being asked back to their Red Eye show, on which he has made numerous appearances. Oderus tweeted:

“I got canned because Sarah Palin complained that we disemboweled her. The nerve of that woman!” and “Sound off like you got a pair if you think it sucks that I am not on Red Eye anymore!”

MXDWN reports that after trying to get in contact with the studio for months, he was reportedly finally able to discover the truth. While passing through New York on a tour with GWAR, Urungus sat down with Gutfeld. During their discussion, Gutfeld expressed surprise at Urungus’ dismissal, but led the GWAR front man to believe the execution of a fake Sarah Palin upset Fox’s higher ups enough to remove him from the show.

Gwar Pushes Back Gwar-B-Q Date

The following statement from GWAR's publicist has been released, issuing an update on the upcoming GWAR-B-Q:

"Slave Pit Inc. is proud to announce that we finally have figured out what the hell is up with this year's GWAR-B-Q. The 2nd Annual GWAR-B-Q will ACTUALLY be on Sep. 17th, 2011, not Aug. 27th as previously advertised. It will be held at Hadad's Water Park in lovely Richmond, VA. The standard ticket price will be 20 bucks, with all kinds of cool extras and discounts. That includes all of the events and especially the bands! And that is this year's biggest news-because this year, for the very first time, GWAR is playing their own GWAR-B-Q! And the OFFICIAL spelling of the event is 'GWAR-B-Q,' even though the flyer up top says different!

'O.K., let's review and embellish...

"The 2011 GWAR-B-Q is ON for Sep. 17th. I know a lot of you are going 'huh? I already took off work at Taco-Bell!' After thinking we were going to do it Aug. 27th, WE FUCKING CHANGED OUR MINDS!

"What bands are playing? First and foremost, GWAR is playing! But almost as cool as that (and for some people a lot more so) is the big reunion of Richmond's own KEPONE for one very special show. Kepone features Mike Bishop on bass and vocals, and any GWAR fan worth his/her ass gas will recognize that name as the guy behind the original Beefcake the Mighty. In fact every member of Kepone (Ed Trask on drums, Tim Harriss on guitar) played in GWAR at one time or another. Kepone made some great albums for Touch and Go and toured internationally before breaking into a slew of other projects in 2003. We are totally stoked that they are bringing it back for the GWAR-B-Q.
