Metal Videos To Get You In The Halloween Mood Part 1: The Silly, The Absurd, And The Immortal

Last year Dan from Autumns Eyes wrote up an article on the Top Ten Halloween songs in honor of that most metal of holidays. This year we’re taking a look at those metal songs with music videos to get you into the proper Halloween mood, and to start off we’ll head into the most crazy, over-the-top, and outright ridiculous videos to be found in metaldom.

Gwar – “Immortal Corruptor”

Anything involving both Halloween and metal pretty much automatically is connected with Gwar. The “Immortal Corrupter” video has got pretty much everything a good horror flick should have – monsters, skeletons, torture, disembowelments, and a flaming drum kit that shoots gouts of blood. If you already hate Gwar there’s no way this clip will change your mind, but nobody can claim it isn’t monstrously entertaining.

Twisted Sister – “Be Chrool To Your Sceul”

This classic is a bit like a less disgusting version of Troma’s “Class of Nuke ‘Em High,” although the opening segment ensures it’s nearly as unwatchable. For a dose of high school zombie action and to catch a cameo by Alice Cooper himself, check out the clip below.

Candlemass – “Bewitched”

The song hits the right subject matter and the video definitely has the atmosphere required to watch around Halloween – and then the massively haired Candlemass front man decides to pop out of a coffin and begin gesticulating wildly and performing some sort of odd ‘80s dance. The zombie head banging at the end is just icing on the cake.

Even with how silly the choreographed moves can get on “Bewitched,” they are no match for the penultimate in metal ridiculousness…

Immortal – “Call of the Wintermoon”

This particular video has been mentioned in Metalunderground.com articles before, but it’s definitely worth bringing up again here. If you haven’t seen this yet, then you need to officially hand in your kvlt card and pry off your spiked arm greaves. Nothing quite says “Halloween” like a troupe of evil wizards cavorting through the woods for deeds both nefarious and utterly incomprehensible.

Dimmu Borgir – “The Sacrilegous Scorn”

I actually really dig this song, agree with many of the sentiments behind the symbolism in the video, and find this album to be Dimmu Borgir’s shining achievement. That being said, in many ways this video is basically a bigger budget version of Immortal’s “Call of the Wintermoon,” complete with amazing/cringe inducing band poses. The faces being made by everyone involved are just priceless, and the over-the-top nature of the clip is unintentionally hilarious.

Throughout the month of October we’ll be spotlighting even more videos to keep you in the spirit of the season. Now that we’ve gotten the sillies out of the way, next week we’ll explore metal music videos of a more Satanic and demonic variety.

Got a favorite horror themed metal video you’d like to share, or think we missed an over-the-top clip here? Feel free to discuss below!

Oh sh!t, that candlemass vid is all-time fvcking classic! Can't believe I've not seen it before. That singer reminds me of the Albino in the Pit of Despair...how's the scene where he swoons the hooded young virgin in the snow: "you will be dancing and sing to my fiddle!" That part was so fvcking awesome, I watched it 11 times

I will opine that the quintessential halloween song for me has always been Mercyful Fate's Witches Dance...hell, that song IS Halloween \m/
