King Of Asgard Posts New Video

Swedish Viking black metal-tinged act King Of Asgard is set to release third album "Karg" on July 22nd, 2014 via Metal Blade Records. Pre-orders are available at this location.

Today King Of Asgard debuts a new video from the record for the song "The Runes of Hel." Tune in below, thanks to Decibel Magazine. The video was directed by Rickard Moneus, and the band comments:

"'The Runes of Hel' was shot at the location of Vadstena Castle, inside one out of four circular cannon turrets. Vadstena Castle is a former Royal Castle and fortress built by King Gustav I of Sweden (Gustav Vasa) in 1545. Vadstena being the city where both Karl and Jonas were born and forged. Somewhat the perfect place for a video to be shot. Thus, one night in May, the key to the city of Vadstena was lent to King of Asgard. A long and late evening, in authentic setting with history's rugged wing beats embracing. Breathing the past and standing on undisturbed soil among ghouls and phantoms. A location harsh, barren and cold as carved for the finalization of 'The Runes of Hel!'

"As in customary and traditional arrangement Rickard Monéus (1897.se), our true companion in arms, handled the photography and the completion of this piece. Assisted by our fellow thrall Petter Fredriksson. Lean back and soak yourselves, as we present to thee; 'The Runes of Hel!'"

Be sure to also check out King Of Asgard's recent entry in our Pit Stories column at this location. The new album's track listing is as follows:

1. The Runes of Hel
2. The Trickster
3. Highland Rebellion
4. Remnant of the Past (streaming here)
5. Omma
6. The Heritage Throne
7. Huldran

Pit Stories: Leaving The Show In A Trunk

The live show is the heart of the metal scene, and both fans and musicians from across the globe have their share of epic stories from the mosh pit.

From amorous couples who can't be bothered to wait until getting home, to bursts of violence, and on to booze-addled shenanigans, the pit has been the site of just about every crazy scenario imaginable.

This week King Of Asgard guitarist Lars G. Tängmark shares this story of trying to see a Paradise Lost show but botching the whole affair from the beginning when he runs into his old friend Jagermeister:

This was the cold winter of 1992 and Paradise Lost was going to play Norrköping. It was probably one of the many brilliant club nights held under the "Trash Bash" flag in the early 90's where international metal celebrities could be enjoyed on a small stage, in small town, on a regular basis. All this less then hour by train away from the even smaller town where I lived and rehearsed with countless obscure musical projects (nothing has changed today BTW).

At the time I was in habit of being absolutely pissed before even leaving home on a Friday night, but on this particular day I made an exception and didn't start pouring Jagermeister down my throat until I got on the train. Had I made an estimation (which I was NOT in the habit of making) I should have understood that the show was still three hours away and I would have to pour the Jager really, really slowly to even be conscious at the time of the show. Did I mention that I looked really good too? I didn't really have the "metal" look going at the time, probably because of some kind of constant identity crisis, so I my hair was semi-long and part at the middle. I had decided for some type of normal clothing, but since I was in "experimental" mode when leaving the house I opted for a huge darth-vader black trenchcoat that looked more weird-granny than Edward Scissordhands. Neat.

King Of Asgard Reveals New Album Details

Swedish Viking black metal-tinged act King Of Asgard has announced "Karg" as the title of the band's third album. "Karg" will be released the 22nd of July, 2014 via Metal Blade Records. You an hear the first single "The Runes of Hel" below, or pre-order a copy of the album here.

"Karg" is the band's third album, following 2010's "Fi'mbulvintr" and 2012's "…to North." The "Karg" album was recorded with Andy LaRocque at Sonic Train Studios. Comments Jonas Albrektsson and Karl Beckman:

"After well over a year of intensive writing, we finally reached the point where everything is put into finish. When countless hours of hard work and careful consideration has been completed. This completion, being our third album which at an early stage was titled to 'Karg,' in English, 'Barren.' A word which later on came to form the atmosphere of the whole album and a sense that meanders through more or less all the material. It's darker, it is harsher and more stripped down than our previous releases. More mature, precise and well thought out. A challenge both for us as well as for the observer. Lyrically, we have come closer to our own immediate surrounding and ancestral heritage, based on old legends and tales from our home region, a tribute to our fair and historical countryside. Yet again everything was recorded and mixed in Sonic Train Studios with Andy LaRocque at the helm assisted by Olof Berggren. Even in the phase of recording we used the word Karg as a guideline… and thus, it is upon thee!"

The track listing is as follows:

01. The Runes of Hel
02. The Trickster
03. Highland Rebellion
04. Remnant of the Past
05. Omma
06. The Heritage Throne
07. Huldran

King Of Asgard To Record New Album

King of Asgard will return to Andy La Rocque's Sonic Train Studios for the third time in March to carve the runes off a forthcoming, untitled album.

Comments singer/guitarist Karl Beckman: "The epic/melodic song writing of the first two albums is enhanced with monophonic warlike hymns and fierce riffage that hint on the various band members past projects.

"Somewhat darker in its approach, creating atmospheres not alien to King of Asgard, but still something not heard on the previous two albums. All the King of Asgard-significative elements are represented yet carrying a somewhat new execution."

This new album will follow previous releases "Fi'mbulvintr" and "…to North." Further details are forthcoming.

King Of Asgard Posts "The Nine Worlds Burn" Video

Swedish Viking metallers King Of Asgard will release "…to North" this coming July 31st via Metal Blade Records. In collaboration with MetalInjection.net, King Of Asgard now premiering the "The Nine Worlds Burn" video clip. Check out the video at this location or in the player below.

King of Asgard comments on the video shoot: "Why look further, when one is surrounded by great artists? Again, King of Asgard teamed up with the 'Einhärjar' video creator, Rickard Monéus and the 1897 crew including Andreas Edelönn. The production set up took place in the depths of a forest close to King of Asgard's rehearsal lair. A late night in May - dusk and burdened raindrops. Perfect conditions for creating works of ruin. Searching to reflect the mythological end-of-this-world theme of 'The Nine Worlds Burn,' Rickard and Andreas produced a video full of ritualistic and apocalyptic visuals that perfectly enhance the song's sense of dread and destruction. A result we are all proud to present. That depict and burn the crust of the earth!" More...

King Of Asgard Streaming New Single

Swedish Viking metal act King of Asgard is now ready to unleash second album "…to North," which was recorded at the infamous Sonic Train Studios with engineer Andy LaRocque at the helm.

In collaboration with Metal Hammer Germany, King of Asgard is now launching the second single taken off the new album. Click here to check out "Gap Of Ginnungs."

Comments King of Asgard on the song: "We picked this song out as the second single taken off the '…to North' album as it represents the more epic side of King of Asgard. The opposite of 'The Nine Worlds Burn' really which is a typical straight forward King of Asgard song. Gap of Ginnungs carries different elements of the band such as choirs and broad melancholic songwriting. Here we also present the second guest musician, Jimmy Hedlund. He is playing the lead guitar solo where we felt that the song needed something extra and this was his void to create upon. He did, and according to us, with a marvelous result and the circle was closed. This one is for you - followers of the King!"

The album is set for release in Europe on July 27th/30th through Metal Blade Records and the track listing is as follows:

1. Intro
2. The Nine Worlds Burn
3. The Dispossessed
4. Gap of Ginnungs
5. Bound to Reunite
6. Nordvegr
7. Up on the Mountain

King Of Asgard Comments On Upcoming Album

Sweden's King of Asgard has issued the following update about the band's new "...To North" album:

"We got the '...to North' master a couple of days ago and it sounds astonishing! Andy made a great job on the mastering along with Olof Berggren, it's upright and least say powerful.

"We feel very proud of what we achieved on this recording and merely the sound of it makes it a worthy followup to the firstborn "Fi'mbulvintr." Songs and sounds came out much as of what we planned, with power and of great variety. Forever greatful to Andy LaRocque, Olof Berggren and Michael Barnes.

"More news on cover art of Mattias Frisk, release date via Metal Blade Records and so forth to come in short.

"Song titles on '...to North' include among others 'Gap Of Ginnungs', 'Plague-Ridden Rebirth', 'Nordvegr', 'Up On The Mountain' and 'The Nine Worlds Burn'.

"All ablaze - The Nine Worlds Burn!"
