We are having the time of our lives on the Alive 35 tour and over half a million KISS fans obviously share the feeling! Why stop?"

Gene Simmons To Make Appearance In "Ugly Betty"

With his own reality show, a four week run in Donald Trump's reality show, KISS bass player Gene Simmons will now make an appearance in the second season of "Ugly Betty."

Earlier this year, Simmons was featured on an episode of the hit comedy. Last week, he returned to the "Ugly Betty" studio to film an upcoming episode called "Who's Your Daddy."

Simmons will play himself in the show. It is expected to be about Gene being the long-lost father of one of the characters in the show.

Simmons had a very short innings in Donald Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice". He survived week two despite his sexist insult of Donald's daughter Ivanka, but had his head chopped off in episode four. He is also into season three of his own reality show "Family Jewels." The New York Post called it "The Osbournes without the talented father". Sharon Osbourne wasn't so polite. She threatened to "fucking tear his head off and stick it up his wife's c**t!"

More Bands Confirmed For UK's Download Festival

Within Temptation and Simple Plan are the latest bands to have confirmed their appearance at this year's Kerrang!-sponsored Download Festival.

Other bands set to join the three-dayer - which takes place at Donington Park on June 13, 14 and 15 - include Cavalera Conspiracy, The Dillinger Escape Plan and cello-wielding Finns Apocalyptica.

"The line-up at Download is always great, and it's something that we always want to be a part of," says Within Temptation vocalist Sharon den Adel. "It's one of those special festivals that you have to treasure when you're a band."

For den Adel, it will be a chance to draw a veil over last year's appearance which was fraught with technical difficulties.

"So many things didn't go the way that they were supposed to," she explains. "We had some technical problems that meant we started much later than we were supposed to, but even though we only ended up playing for around 15 minutes, there was still thousands of people going out of their minds. The crowd was so enthusiastic and that was really amazing to see."

Simple Plan drummer Chuck Comeau says the Montreal pop-punks can't wait to take part in this year's festival, especially when it comes to seeing Judas Priest and Kiss.

"It'll be awesome to see those bands at a festival like this," smiles Comeau. "Seeing that sea of people, and all jumping up and down at the same time or pounding their fists or whatever. I love it!"

Cavalera Conspiracy - featuring former Sepultura brothers Max and Igor - will make their UK debut at the festival, marking the first show the pair have played together on English soil since their acrimonious split after a show at London's Brixton Academy on December 16, 1996.

"I love Download!" says frontman Max Cavalera. "The last one with Soulfly was fucking great, and I think now it's even more exciting because it's me and Igor together in England, because of the last concert we played together in Sepultura. UK fans should be pretty fired up to see the Cavalera Conspiracy!"

The Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman can't promise whether vocalist Greg Puciato will repeat antics at Reading 2002, where he defecated onto a towel and threw it into the crowd.

"I guess it depends what he eats!" laughs Weinman. "It was a situation that we felt we really needed to take advantage of. We knew there'd be thousands upon thousands of people that had never even heard of us watching that day, and we just wanted to give them something to keep them interested.

"We're really looking forward it," he adds. "I'm really looking forward to seeing Judas Priest. If I can stand at the side and watch Halford cruise onstage with his big-ass motorcycle I'll be a very happy guy."

KISS And Metallica To Play Bulgaria Show

According to News.bg, METALLICA and KISS will play in Bulgaria this spring/summer.

KISS will perform on May 16 at Akademik Stadium in Sofia, one day after making a stop in Belgrade, Serbia.

It is rumored that METALLICA demanded $1.5 million to play in the country, although this information has not been corroborated by an official source.

KISS will perform in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday, March 16 to close the 2008 Grand Prix.

METALLICA has been announced as one of the headliners for the 2008 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, scheduled for June 12 through June 15 in Manchester, Tennessee. METALLICA will headline the bill on June 13. A statement at the band's web site said in part, "The Bonnaroo gang does an amazing job at giving you everything you could want/need for a great weekend...so hang out, soak up the vibe, and embrace the whole experience."

The choice of METALLICA as a headliner is bound to cause controversy, given the festival's more relaxed vibe and past leanings toward jam bands, indie acts and prog-rock. Although TOOL performed last year, the METALLICA audience is often decidedly more raucous.

Two More Bands Announced For Download 2008

Following yesterday's announcement of Disturbed, Incubus, Alter Bridge and In Flames we have another two bands have been announced.

And they are K! Relentless Energry Drink Tour 2008 headliners Coheed & Cambria and the mighty Children Of Bodom!

For Coheed & Cambria it will be a chance to exorcise the demons from their appearance at Download 2006, a period when the band was close to falling apart.

"We were one man down," explains bassist Michael Todd. "Our drummer didn't make it over, so we were playing with our drum tech as a replacement and it was less than cosy onstage. It was kind of a bum-out as it was one of the biggest shows that we have ever played. "Donington is one of those festivals that if you have a good spot on the bill, you've made it!" he adds. "It's going to be awesome."

"We've wanted to play Download for years," explains Children Of Bodom bassist Henkka SeppÑlÑ. "I can't wait to see Judas Priest. They're a band everybody has to see!"

The Kerrang!-sponsored Download festival will be headlined by: Kiss, The Offspring and Lostprophets

Other bands on the bill include: Alter Bridge, Children Of Bodom, Coheed & Cambria, Disturbed, HIM, In Flames, Incubus, Judas Priest, Motorhead and Rise Against,

Gene Simmons Explains Lack Of New KISS Music

Cameron Adams of Australia's Herald Sun recently conducted an interview with KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons. A few excerpts from the chat follow;

On having his and partner Shannon Tweed's facelifts filmed for their reality series "Gene Simmons Family Jewels":

"If you want to see me wiping my ass on camera I will. I'll take a s--- on air, I don't care.

"I'm delusional. I thought I was beautiful before and I'm even more stunning now. The male of the species doesn't have to worry about those things, we just have to have a good job, then we'll attract the female.

"The female of the species is unfortunately stuck in that biological thing of stimulating the male of the species. Which is why the beauty industry is so powerful — women."

On being "happily unmarried" to Tweed since 1985:

"Women reluctantly point to our family and say it works. But they don't like the non-married part because no social security is involved: a financial obligation, if you will. I refuse to have a financial obligation to anyone other than the mother who gave me life.

"Women's biology means they make one or two eggs a month and by their middle years stop being able to procreate entirely, so their biological urge is to corner a man so when they can't reproduce they have a man.

"The phrase is 'I'm going to get my claws in him' or 'he's a good catch' — because he's trying to run away. Man's tendency is not to stick around. Which is unfortunate when you look at all the fathers and husbands who've walked out. Women are never surprised when that happens, they're just surprised it's happened to them.

"The reason I'm crazy about Shannon is she's a modern, 21st-century woman and she should be teaching all other women to get a life, get a hobby. Stop torturing the men."

On his arrangement with Tweed:

"I just don't care. That's why you never read about me in those trash mags women are addicted to. If I go to a strip club, and when I'm in Australia I intend to, I'll stand in front of the club and pose with the strippers all you like. You can take my photo and put them in your magazines because I'll be smiling."

On writing a book called "Ladies of the Night" — "a personal and historical perspective of the oldest profession in the world":

"They [prostitutes] make a very good living doing what biology dictates, which is they charge for their companionship.

"What's the difference between that and a 15-year-old kid who eagerly tries to feel up his girlfriend but has to pay for the movie tickets and take her out to dinner? Men will always pay, they have always paid, call it what you will — whether it's marriage, girlfriend or ladies of the night.'

On his two well-adjusted teenagers Nicholas and Sophie:

"They're both extraordinary young people because that's their job. They have no other purpose except to do well in school and be charming. I'll take care of all the rest, I'll risk my life, I'll make all the money.

"The idea of negotiating with kids is lunacy. It's pathetic what's happened to the male of the species. The father disciplinarian has all but disappeared in society. I see all these grown men negotiating with kids who've just learnt to wipe their asses. It's f---ing lunacy.'

On why there is no new KISS album:

"There's no new KISS material because there's no record industry.

"Any band who tries to do new material is trying to climb a slippery mountain. Every day record companies are folding. It'd be nice to have new KISS songs, but what's the business model? Do you just put songs on the Internet for free? Then what?'

KISS Guitarist Answers Fans Questions

KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer recently answered a few questions from fans via his official web site. The question-and-answer session follows:

Q: My question is regarding the non-make-up material that featured Bruce Kulick on guitar. I know that the Les Paul is almost as much a part of the Spaceman persona as the silver makeup and lightning bolts, but I was wondering if you would ever consider using a guitar equipped with a whammy bar for songs like "Unholy" and "Tears Are Falling". Are you guys going for more of an Ace Frehley vibe on the Bruce stuff? Also, is there any chance of you convincing Gene and Paul to add "Carnival Of Souls" material? Many of us really love that album and would enjoy hearing it live.

Thayer: "I've played a Les Paul since I began playing guitar, with much of my early influence coming directly from KISS and Ace. I did play some whammy bar stuff in the '80s, but I'm mostly born and bred on Gibson Les Pauls. So that would naturally be my approach onstage. If an 'Unholy' or 'Tears Are Falling' finds itself in the KISS set list, I would naturally adapt that solo to a Les Paul and 'classic KISS' sort of approach so that it works seamlessly with all of the other songs."

Q: I read recently that one of your favourite guitar players is Brian May. I also love your guitar tone — man, it's amazing — so I was just wondering: how do you get the sound?? I know that you play Les Pauls, but what about effects and amp type and settings?

Thayer: "Another good question. I've recently began using Hughes & Kettner Duotone amplifiers, which I love. I'm a true believer that the way a guitar player plays the guitar attributes more to the tone and sound than anything else. This never dawned on me until once I was watching a club band play at the Whisky in Hollywood back in 1982. The guitar player had an OK tone but wasn't that impressive. Suddenly they announce a special guest coming up onstage. Randy Rhoads walks out and picks up the other guitar player's guitar and plugs into the guitar player's amp. Amazingly, the guitar sound was instantly huge and ballsy. It sounded completely different. So that stuck with me and I've seen and heard that happen time and time again. I don't use effects on my sound, except an octave divider on one solo."

Q: Tommy, Are there any plans for another "Kissology"? Part 3 was fantastic, but I would love to see a part 4 with the current line-up that shows all of the rare songs you have performed and some of the special shows over the past few years.

Thayer: "I think it's certainly possible that there will be more 'Kissology' [releases]."

Q: Just exactly how tall are you with out the platforms? There has been some debate on it. A few of us have said you are around 6ft tall or 6ft 1. Some of us (me included) have said about 6ft 2 or 6ft 3. Others have said you are taller at 6ft 4 0r 6ft 5. So again I ask, just exactly how tall are you?

Thayer: "You girls want to know everything! I'm 6' 2 1/2" tall. Gene and I are exactly the same height. My platforms are about 5 inches, whereas Paul and Gene's are 6 or 7 inches. Hope that answers it!"
