Gene Simmons Explains Lack Of New KISS Music

Band Photo: Kiss (?)
Cameron Adams of Australia's Herald Sun recently conducted an interview with KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons. A few excerpts from the chat follow;
On having his and partner Shannon Tweed's facelifts filmed for their reality series "Gene Simmons Family Jewels":
"If you want to see me wiping my ass on camera I will. I'll take a s--- on air, I don't care.
"I'm delusional. I thought I was beautiful before and I'm even more stunning now. The male of the species doesn't have to worry about those things, we just have to have a good job, then we'll attract the female.
"The female of the species is unfortunately stuck in that biological thing of stimulating the male of the species. Which is why the beauty industry is so powerful — women."
On being "happily unmarried" to Tweed since 1985:
"Women reluctantly point to our family and say it works. But they don't like the non-married part because no social security is involved: a financial obligation, if you will. I refuse to have a financial obligation to anyone other than the mother who gave me life.
"Women's biology means they make one or two eggs a month and by their middle years stop being able to procreate entirely, so their biological urge is to corner a man so when they can't reproduce they have a man.
"The phrase is 'I'm going to get my claws in him' or 'he's a good catch' — because he's trying to run away. Man's tendency is not to stick around. Which is unfortunate when you look at all the fathers and husbands who've walked out. Women are never surprised when that happens, they're just surprised it's happened to them.
"The reason I'm crazy about Shannon is she's a modern, 21st-century woman and she should be teaching all other women to get a life, get a hobby. Stop torturing the men."
On his arrangement with Tweed:
"I just don't care. That's why you never read about me in those trash mags women are addicted to. If I go to a strip club, and when I'm in Australia I intend to, I'll stand in front of the club and pose with the strippers all you like. You can take my photo and put them in your magazines because I'll be smiling."
On writing a book called "Ladies of the Night" — "a personal and historical perspective of the oldest profession in the world":
"They [prostitutes] make a very good living doing what biology dictates, which is they charge for their companionship.
"What's the difference between that and a 15-year-old kid who eagerly tries to feel up his girlfriend but has to pay for the movie tickets and take her out to dinner? Men will always pay, they have always paid, call it what you will — whether it's marriage, girlfriend or ladies of the night.'
On his two well-adjusted teenagers Nicholas and Sophie:
"They're both extraordinary young people because that's their job. They have no other purpose except to do well in school and be charming. I'll take care of all the rest, I'll risk my life, I'll make all the money.
"The idea of negotiating with kids is lunacy. It's pathetic what's happened to the male of the species. The father disciplinarian has all but disappeared in society. I see all these grown men negotiating with kids who've just learnt to wipe their asses. It's f---ing lunacy.'
On why there is no new KISS album:
"There's no new KISS material because there's no record industry.
"Any band who tries to do new material is trying to climb a slippery mountain. Every day record companies are folding. It'd be nice to have new KISS songs, but what's the business model? Do you just put songs on the Internet for free? Then what?'
On people who download music illegally:
"They're crooks. I would have sued the very first one and the very last one. As soon as you take somebody's property, that's stealing. People say to me 'You're rich, you have enough money'. It's actually not for anyone to decide that. I'll let you know when I'm too rich. The last time I checked, what we do isn't called charity, it's called the music business.
"Here we are today with exactly what I said would happen happening. The very same people that love the music the most have slit its throat and they're surprised it's dying. 'How come my new band can't get a shot?' 'Cos you killed it, bitch.
"Every day college kids who probably love music more than anybody are the same people slashing the record industry's throat by file sharing and downloading. It's the saddest thing for new bands. Doesn't affect me or KISS. We can continue to play stadiums and do very well, and we release DVDs.
"But there isn't a chance for a new band to become the next BEATLES or KISS because there isn't the infrastructure to do it."

His argument is bull***. I buy albums and I also download some illegally. The majority, I buy.. I don't even buy albums in stores anymore - it is online. I am not the cause for the record industry to fold. He is just saying what his lawyers tell him to say. I like KISS - no doubt about it - but stop blaming file sharing, and actually make quality music so people will want to buy your music. Nothing makes people/consumers more angry then buying an over-priced CD and getting SHI^^ tracks....

Hey! I love torturing men! Pokeing them in the belly, makeing them squrim when I tickle them, makeing them giggle like a little girl... Its quite fun damn it! Especally when your able to make the big guys twitch! Hehehe! Though I do think marrage is sort of over rated. I am more inclined to do a comeitment cermemony. I dont need a f***ing piece of paper to make an already great relationship better. Dont like Kiss, I think they suck and not just because they are sue happy.

Music will never die. People will never stop going to concerts and musicians will never stop playing on stage. That is where a decent ammount of a musicians income comes from along with merchandise sales. You cant download any shirt, poster, concert ticket, pin, hat or otherwise. Some bands make bank on just that alone.

Yeah he has some pretty "progressive" views; and KISS has always been about making the $$$. But their music has -mostly- been cliche, and anyone who makes millions of dollars shouldn't have the power to influence us common men and women. Be skeptical.

And cynical aswell, West. Its insane what people will do for money sake. Not just sell out artist, but theieves, mobsters/gangsters, goverment officials and corporations. Going a tad off topic I would like to know why do women want men to fight for them and need female potty partners? Its been kind of perplexing me for my entire 23 years. Also guys, am I the only woman in this frikin universe that truely believes in bros before hoes? Met alot of women in my day and they seem to not get that concept. Maybe being around guys all my life makes me a bit diffrent or I am wired that way naturaly.

Gene sucks ass. I mean he should talk about how much the music f***ing industry f***s us in the a$$ with the cd prices all the time. If the cd were not that expensive, we would buy them more. But when they charge you an insane 25 bucks for a metal cd you go : f*** that man ! And as for the rest of the pop artists, it's not that expansive but it sucks ass. So f*** your music business Gene, you're a bunch of sharks and they can't let the good ones be good, especially in metal cause they want them to sell more, so to sell more they need to mellow down.

Coming from an ex Kiss fan i would personally love to hear new material from Kiss...We have to remember that it is Paul Stanley who writes the coolest songs for the band...and Gene should be thanking Him for sustaining Kiss throughout all these years...if Kiss were only to be Gene's songs THEN the band would have folded back in 1984...don't knock Kiss for their style of music...it's not 'gay' but glam...and yes in some ways most of their music (along with bands like motley crue and poison, etc....) is below par because glam rock LACKS substance....when i discovered bands like Blind Guardian, helloween, iced earth, nightwish, stratovarius, just to name a few, i never once since then played another Kiss CD except for Paul's and Ace's solo material...it's ok to HATE Kiss but just remember one thing - they've inspired alot of OTHER bands that you might love so much - even James from Metallica says the FIRST song he ever learned on guitar was Kiss' ''calling dr. love'' (gene's song from '76). Gene's contribution to the Kiss legend was MAJOR but then stopped in the mid 80's...Gene is right about one thing - the music industry isn't the same anymore and it's not ONLY him that's saying it....i agree with Red-Chord that the prices of CD's are too expensive - esp. METAL cd's!!! but unfortunately thats the way the industry works...METAL is underground - they don't SELL as much as commercial/popular music - I bought Iron Maiden's new CD from last year at future shop for $10.00 dollars !!! I also bought god's of war from MANOWAR for $35.00 dollars :-( ouch!!! that's the difference - if manowar ever becomes MAINSTREAM then their prices will drop . has anyone noticed the price of virgin DVD's are NOW cheaper than virgin CD's ? WHY? because CD's are becoming less mainstream....i went to buy virgin video cassettes at walmart the other day and they had very few and the prices have almost TRIPLED because no one buys them anymore....the WAY THE INDUSTRY works is not Gene's fault...Gene isn't the SHARK but indeed the industry is runned by sharks.

Sad but true. What makes it worse is the music industries cookie cutter mentality.Their's little or no originality anymore.Hence the Boy Band craze of the last 15 or so yrs.Lastly as far as his comment's about women are concerned. After reading "The GAME Infiltrating the secret society of pickup artist's." He's on the money amazeingly enough. As crazy as it sound's.I recomend the book and all the book's associated with it.You'd be shocked at the thing's being disclosed. And Gene's clearly ahead of that game too.He won't marry shanon & she's not leaving !?!? Think about it.

Yeah, you're right Blackdog, but I'd imagine a lot of women despise him because of his attitudes. Then again, those probably aren't the kind of women you want to have around anyway. There's no place in the world for the kind of woman who makes her living by divorcing men for alimony.

I cant stand women who suck the life out of men. Its wrong and unladylike in my opinion. Its weak women who have no other talent to make money off of than to be a leach to society! I say stone them and I will bring the bottle of Jack and the chips! When I left my exhusband the only thing I took was a ring and a c.d. Thats it. Even though he was an abusive a$$hole I still felt no need to take everything of his!

Completely BlackDog! I could very well have a sugar daddy, but I would not be happy with myself. I could make a liveing on my looks too, but choose not to. That type of mentality in women sickens me to the point to were I choose to not have women as friends. In fact I only have like two women friends. Too damn many women expect that a man should take care of them and sit at home mooching off them just because they have a vagina! No thanks I say!

What Simmons meant to say was:
"There's no new KISS music because I've been way too busy managing my television show, magazine, coffins, guitar line, energy drinks, potato chips, sex toys, sperm-scented perfume, and fast-food resturant chain."
And as a wise man said in an earlier post: "Kiss sucks anyways".

In the 70s when Kiss was huge, alot of the attraction was pure schock value. At that time extreme rock music was new and you add a bunch of people strung out on drugs and alcohol and you get Kiss being huge. Now a days you still find Kiss fans, but I havent met that super fan that wears the Kiss make up. The music is extremely mediocre at best and the Kiss make up and outfits does not match! Thats what really bugs me about them. They have songs that sound like hippy pop and they look hardcore metalers!

Gene's philosophy is better than his music. Maybe that's the REAL reason there is no new KISS album.
