Dozens of metal celebrities have been posting a few words and personal memories in his honor.

Lost one of my best friends, Lemmy, today. He will be sadly missed. He was a warrior and a legend. I will see you on the other side.— Ozzy Osbourne (@OzzyOsbourne) December 29, 2015

Several news outlets are reporting that the home of Gene Simmons was recently searched by a Crimes Against Children police task force, although unlike the recent news of former Subway icon Jared Fogle, it would appear Simmons is not actually the subject of the investigation.
CBSLocal reported the following info:
Authorities say the home of KISS co-founder Gene Simmons was searched Thursday afternoon by police but neither the rock icon nor his family are considered suspects. The Los Angeles Police Department said the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force searched the home and explained that the Simmons family was extremely cooperative.
The story goes on to clarify Simmons' role in the investigation by stating:
Simmons’ representative, however, released a statement that said that police visited the home to discuss a “crime that may have occurred on their property last year while Simmons was away on tour with KISS.”
“Neither Mr. Simmons nor any member of his family is a person of interest in the investigation and they are cooperating fully with the investigation,” his representative said. The statement went on to say that police have requested that Simmons and his family do not discuss the investigation publicly so as to not compromise it.
Gene's wife, Shannon Tweed Simmons, also posted these messages on Twitter about the investigation: More...
The Graspop Metal Meeting festival, held annually in the small Belgian town of Dessel, has become one of the highlights of the metal calendar, along with such festivals as Wacken Open Air and Hellfest and this year, the event proved how successful it is by celebrating it's twentieth edition. It was certainly a special way to mark the occassion, booking a number of bands who had never played the festival before but who fans had been clamouring to see. It has always traditionally catered to head bangers of all ages, bringing in bands from the early days of metal to the stars of today, as well as up and comers. Before we go any further, it should be noted that due to scheduling conflicts, some big names either will not be covered in this review, or only mentioned briefly, so don't be disappointed if your favourite band doesn't get the treatment you want, if at all. So, with all that said, just how good can a metal festival in the Flemish region be? Read on, MacDuff.
Arriving on the Thursday, the camp site seemed to be smoother than ever to get in to than previous years. Whether this is because the staff have further improved the planning of the grounds, metal heads have become friendlier over the past four years, or because I've been put on medication since my last visit, we'll never know. Anyway, the general atmosphere at Graspop was, as per usual, a very relaxed one, with people from all over the world coming to listen to and celebrate the music they love so dearly. There are some bands performing on this day too, mostly cover acts such as The Art of Pantera and Diolegacy. It's a good way to get introduced to the festival grounds, get some tokens (imagine Disney money but with skulls on,) and familiarise yourself with the stages, food stalls and the cafe, which is more of a pub with Warlock on full blast.
On to the most important thing however, the music. Kicking off the main stage, or rather, the second main stage as the festival now has two, was hard rock supergroup, The Dead Daisies. The band features a collective of solid names such as Marco Mendoza, Dizzy Reed and former Motley Crue vocalist, John Corabi. Looking at the bands on the members resume such as Guns N Roses, Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake, their good time, hard rocking sound was pretty much what one would expect. This does not, however, stop them from doing their job of getting people on their feet, putting smiles on faces and generally bringing a great vibe to the event that is so vital in making sure a festival gets off to a good start. They're not just a party act either, they've got some genuinly good songs and a number of people seemed to be a little surprised how much they enjoyed the set. Bottom line: If you want to party like it's 1985, go see the Dead Daisies. You'll be glad you did. More...
WWE Studios has announced a new partnership with Gene Simmons to launch Erebus Pictures, which will finance and produce "elevated" horror movies. The new venture has locked a three-picture co-production deal starting with “Temple,” which was originally acquired and developed by WWE Studios.
Erebus Pictures is named after the Greek primordial deity representing the personification of darkness. “The horror genre continues to fascinate me as it proves to be endlessly thrilling and engaging for audiences,” said the KISS icon, who has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide after nearly 41 years in rock ‘n’ roll and more than eight seasons and 167 episodes of his own reality TV show. “I am so thrilled to be working with the masterminds from WWE Studios in launching Erebus Pictures.”
“Horror films fall into a genre that thrives on genuine passion, and I believe this partnership truly capitalizes on that sentiment and supports our vision,” said Michael Luisi, President of WWE Studios. “I am confident that Erebus will provide audiences with an unprecedented horror experience.”
“Temple” is written by Matt Savelloni (“Exile To Babylon”) and will follow a team of highly trained operatives who find themselves trapped inside an isolated military compound after its artificial intelligence is suddenly shut down. While investigating the source of the malfunction, the crew begins to experience strange and horrific phenomena as they attempt to uncover who or what killed the team previously stationed at the compound.
A director for “Temple” will be announced shortly, with principal photography to take place this summer. Erebus Pictures’ second feature will go into production later this year.

So without further ado, your 250th Sunday Old School post from the biggest band of all time: KISS. (Note: If you don’t believe this is the biggest band of all time just ask Gene Simmons.) More...

A new photography book has been released chronicling all the times KISS ever visited Sweden, which can be seen below. The following press release was also issued:
"Alright World! You wanted the best… It has arrived! KISS in Sweden 1976-2013 – The Book about all those times KISS visited Sweden. A book for anyone who loves KISS, filled with exciting stories, interesting facts and almost 1000 pictures!
"The authors have one thing in common – our passionate interest in the rock group KISS, and we hope and trust that you will feel this passion and feel your heart rate increase when you have the book in your hands and open it for the first time…
"Our story begins when KISS lands at Torslanda Airport just outside of Gothenburg around 4PM on the 25th of May 1976. They arrive by plane unmasked and a Swedish photographer takes a few shots as KISS are about to embark on their first tour in Sweden, a tour which has generated scandalous headlines in the media long before the plane even landed. KISS will come back to visit Sweden again in 1980, 1983, 1984, 1988, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2008, 2010 and 2013 and the band or parts thereof have made promotional visits here in 1982, 1985, 1987, 1992 and 1994. The story of KISS in Sweden ends as Gene and Paul board an aircraft taking off from Kristianstad Airport in Everöd at 4PM on the 8th of June 2013, bound for Norway.
"The goal with the book has from the very start been to document all of KISS’ visits to our country as thoroughly as possible. We searched far and wide for all the cool pictures that were forgotten or ended up gathering dust in an attic somewhere. We talked to those who met the band, privately or professionally, and we spared no dime uncovering the facts and unknown stories which has until now remained undocumented. We set out to do a book that we ourselves would like to read and we think we have succeeded. We are sure that all KISS fans will enjoy our book!

This week’s edition of Sunday Old School is a very special one because today sees Sunday Old School reach two hundred official articles! So to celebrate this little milestone of ours, I wanted to look back in rock and metal history and find a true landmark moment in the genre. A moment that let the world know that heavy music was here to stay and meant so much to so many. And nothing seemed like a bigger moment in general metal history than when promoter Paul Loasby teamed up with Maurice Jones and formed a festival, which was to be held at Donington Park in Leicestershire, England, and would be known as Monsters of Rock.
The one day event was initially scheduled to be a grand final date for Rainbow’s UK tour, a band whom Loasby had recently been promoting. Rainbow were joined at the inaugural event by established German rockers, the Scorpions, who had just released their seventh album, "Animal Magnetism" and Judas Priest, who were riding high thanks to the wildly successful, "British Steel" album. Also on the bill that day were heavy metal upstarts, Saxon, who were considered the leaders of the exciting young, New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement at the time, Canadian hard rock veterans, April Wine and New York openers Riot and Touch. The festival was a resounding success, drawing in thirty five thousand fans and a live compilation album, which sold well.
Although it was initially conceived only as a vehicle for Rainbow, it was announced on the day of the first edition that the festival would return the next year. AC/DC were to be the headliners in 1981, marking the first of their record holding three headline appearances at the event. It was a somewhat lighter tone in the sophomore year, where AC/DC were joined Whitesnake, American stars, Blue Oyster Cult and quite interestingly, British glam rock veterans, Slade, who had recently found favour with the heavy metal audience after a brief time out of the limelight. Rounding off the bill was Blackfoot, a Southern Rock band from Jacksonville, Florida and More, who were notable for featuring former Iron Maiden vocalist, Paul Day, as well as a DJ set from the BBC’s voice of rock, Tommy Vance. The varied lineups continued, with Status Quo (AKA, your nan’s favourite band) headlining the event in 1982, where they were joined by other established rockers such as Gillan, Uriah Heep and Hawkwind, as well as a young Canadian group named, Anvil and Monsters of Rock veterans, Saxon, who became the first band to appear twice, before Whitesnake closed the event in 1983, which also featured Meat Loaf and ZZ Top, who were placed higher than such heavy metal favourites as Dio, Diamond Head and Twisted Sister. To rock fans and musicians alike Bruce Kulick made himself a name as the guitarist of Meat Loaf during the "Bat Out Of Hell" tour in 1978. After that he also joined Michael Bolton, but it wasn't until the mid eighties that he gained worldwide notoriety by joining Kiss during the unmasked era for a relationship that was to last twelve years. In those years he put his lead guitar stamp on hits such as "Crazy, Crazy Nights" and "God Gave Rock'n Roll To You."
Bruce has just been in the studio to record some lead guitar tracks for the forthcoming Rock Opera of Tobias Sammet‘s Avantasia project, due out in March 2013. Bruce had already appeared on the previous Avantasia album while Tobias sang guest vocals on Bruce‘s last solo album “BK3,“ which featured guests such as Gene Simmons of KISS and Steve Lukather of Toto.
Tobias says: “Bruce and I have been friends for some years now, he is a lovely person and an amazing guitarist. It was really obvious I would ask him to come on-board for Avantasia once again. Two of the tracks he plays on are more than 10 minutes long, and they include screaming and whammy-bar driven stuff as well as anthemic Meat Loafish type melodies. I love it because it's got such an old school quality, and Bruce just has it! Class act!“
Avantasia will also hit the stages again in April 2013, right after the release of the new CD.
Tobias' tour management is currently working on a headlining indoor tour for Avantasia in April. The group will also play a few chosen summer festivals, and a South American and Asian tour is planned for late summer.
The truck carrying all of the pyrotechnics equipment to the KISS/Motley Crue concert at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan was involved in an accident on the highway and overturned. Nobody was hurt, and both bands have rescheduled their concert for September 6th.

Refunds are available to those concertgoers who are not able to reschedule for the following night's show. Both bands issued a joint statement that appeared on KISS Online, which follows below.

Okay, so he never really left, that was just a dream. The organisers of the British leg of the Sonisphere festival have announced that they have had to cancel this years event, which was set to feature headline performances from KISS, Faith No More and Queen + Adam Lambert, amongst others. The statement from the organisers reads as follows:
"It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012.
"Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar. Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere’s audience would rightly expect. More...
