Jamie Hooper, Sunny Dhak and Bob Froese originally got together to do a one-off reunion gig for an old group of theirs - however, things went so well they decided to continue under a new moniker. A five-track demo of the new band, now dubbed 3 Inches of Blood after a particularly gruesome dream of Froese's, found its way over to the house of Hot Hot Heat keyboardist Steve Bays. Bays' friend, death metal vocalist Cam Pipes, was impressed with 3 Inches' old school sound, which sounds like the shrieking vocal assault of Rob Halford, the epic guitars and storytelling of Iron Maiden, the pirate theme of Running Wild, and the lasting influence of the British New Wave of Heavy Metal.

Although the group had little distribution for the record, they did share the same U.K. label as The Darkness, who at the time were on their way to becoming the UK's latest rock sensation. When 3 Inches went overseas, they hooked up with The Darkness for a UK tour. The tour was a smash success. Due to this bubbling under at the press level, Roadrunner Records took notice of the group's demo, and signed the band in 2004.

3 Inches began work on "Advance and Vanquish," determined to make it a "classic" metal album. Musically, the band has expanded on their classic metal roots, developing into one of the tightest hard rock bands of modern times.

3 Inches Of Blood Finishes Recording New Album

Heavy metal roup 3 Inches Of Blood has announced that they have completed work on their new studio album, "Here Waits Thy Doom" which is set to be released later this year through Century Media Records.

Guitarist Shane Clark says : "Our new album is finished and we've named it Here Waits Thy Doom. Much like our last record it is a step beyond the album that precedes it. We've again taken what we do a step further and not made Fire Up The Blades part 2, we've stuck to our formula - no formula. We are true metal fans and we've made an unapologetic metal record. I think this our most focused record to date, from writing all the way to mixing there was no unnecessary drama or too many cooks in the kitchen. This is 3 Inches Of Blood at its most punishing, epic and mighty."

3 Inches Of Blood Talks About Split w/ Roadrunner

MetalSucks recently caught up with 3 INCHES OF BLOOD vocalist Cam Pipes before their hometown show in Vancouver with BISON B.C. Pipes spoke about touring in support of the band's most recent record, the band's split with Roadrunner Records, writing new material, and what the future holds for 3 INCHES OF BLOOD. An excerpt follows:

MetalSucks: One of the major events this year is that you’ve split with Roadrunner records. What happened to that relationship between the label and the band?

Cam Pipes: It was time for them to decide if they were going to pick up the option for the next record. They didn’t and we’re happy about it because we didn’t really like being with that label. There was a lot of things inside the label that we didn’t like in terms of how they showed their support for us and how they pushed our band in the press. We really didn’t see eye to eye on a lot of things. They’re a really big corporate label now owned by Warner, so they’re moving strictly in a “We want to make money” direction and we weren’t putting up the numbers that they would have liked to see. We got dropped on the priority list time and time again and then they finally decided that it wasn’t economically viable to keep releasing this band. It's enabled us to be a lot more creative on where we want to go. We’re not tied down to a long term contract anymore, so we can go explore other options and hopefully we’ll be a little more free to do certain things with a label that’s a lot more focused to promote us in a better way and [is] more geared towards our style.

MetalSucks: Are you looking for a label right now or are you happy to be an unsigned touring band?

Cam Pipes: We started looking for labels right off the bat and we’re still weighing our options, but we think we might be getting close. I’m not going to give away any names of potential labels right now but something could happen soon. We’re going to keep writing either way. That was always our focus to just be writing around this time and putting out new songs.
