Jamie Hooper, Sunny Dhak and Bob Froese originally got together to do a one-off reunion gig for an old group of theirs - however, things went so well they decided to continue under a new moniker. A five-track demo of the new band, now dubbed 3 Inches of Blood after a particularly gruesome dream of Froese's, found its way over to the house of Hot Hot Heat keyboardist Steve Bays. Bays' friend, death metal vocalist Cam Pipes, was impressed with 3 Inches' old school sound, which sounds like the shrieking vocal assault of Rob Halford, the epic guitars and storytelling of Iron Maiden, the pirate theme of Running Wild, and the lasting influence of the British New Wave of Heavy Metal.

Although the group had little distribution for the record, they did share the same U.K. label as The Darkness, who at the time were on their way to becoming the UK's latest rock sensation. When 3 Inches went overseas, they hooked up with The Darkness for a UK tour. The tour was a smash success. Due to this bubbling under at the press level, Roadrunner Records took notice of the group's demo, and signed the band in 2004.

3 Inches began work on "Advance and Vanquish," determined to make it a "classic" metal album. Musically, the band has expanded on their classic metal roots, developing into one of the tightest hard rock bands of modern times.

3 Inches Of Blood Answers Fan Questions

More answers are in from 3 Inches Of Blood frontman Cam Pipes on the latest installment of answers from Ask the Artist. The latest questions answered are as follows:

Question: how in the name of all that is holy do you manage to hit those high notes, and do you have any special tricks for beginning vocalists?

Cam: I'm no expert in the matter because I've never taken vocal lessons. I just sing along to my favorite albums and attempt to do what they're doing. Gargling with cold water before a show helps me warm up.

Question: As a musician, starting out, what advice can you give about writing your own music and getting it heard?

Cam: Play shows in your home town fairly often for a while to build up your chops as a live band. Eventually you should aim for playing most of your shows out of town because ultimately it's the fans in other cities that will appreciate you more than your home town will.

For all of Cam's answers, click here.

Satyricon Members Arrested, Tour Scrapped

Guitarists for Norwegian black metal band Satyricon have been arrested in Toronto, Canada for allegedly drugging and raping a woman following a show at Fun Haus in Toronto earlier this week. The Toronto woman claims that she was with Satyricon's A.O. Gronbech and Steinar Gundersen (also of Spiral Architect) in their tourbus, but eventually woke up somewhere else and had been sexually assaulted. The guitarists are currently being detained and DNA samples have been taken. The Norwegian embassy was told of the arrest and has been working with Canadian officials on behalf of those charged. If convicted, the two could each face up to ten years in prison. Needless to say, the group's remaining tour dates with 3 Inches Of Blood were subsequently cancelled. 3 Inches of Blood Guitarists Leave, Tour Dates

Posted on the official 3 Inches of Blood website:

To confirm, (guitarists) Bobby Froese and Sunny Dhak are no longer part of the band. The two of them decided they could no longer commit to touring and needed to deal with some personal matters. Naturally, we were all quite shocked and disappointed by their decision, but after much discussion we understand why they needed to do this and we wish them the best.

We decided afterwards that we didn't want to call it a day, so we've recruited the guitar talents of Justin Hagberg from war-metallers Allfather, and Shane Clark who plays in Ten Miles Wide and The Almighty Punchdrunk.

We're also pleased to announce that we'll be doing a tour of the U.S.A. as main support for Metal Church.

Confirmed dates for the Metal Church tour are as follows: More...

Cradle Of Filth: Japanese Version Of Nymphetamine

Cradle Of Filth bassist Dave Pybus has posted the following studio update on the band's official web site:

"The new album is finished and the promo tour has started which saw me and [vocalist] Dani [Filth] travel through Cologne - Germany, Stockholm - Sweden, Amsterdam - Holland, Milan - Italy and New York - USA. There is a 6-track CD featuring unmixed and unmastered songs gone out to the press which rumour has it can be downloaded on the net. I wanna personally thank whoever did this for us as it's helped the promotion of 'Nymphetamine' a thousand fold and we now hope to go on and sell a million copies due to people downloading our songs before we put them on the website. Cheers for that. I'll buy you a beer if we ever meet. You can officially download the title track for us when it appears on the 'Resident Evil' soundtrack later this month. Thanks.

"One thing not many people have heard so far is our Bathory 'Bestial Lust' cover, which is set to appear on Japanese release of 'Nymphetamine' as an extra track. We did this before Bathory mainman Quorthon died but we'd still like to think of it as a tribute to them. Maybe this track will appear on our special edition early next year, so rest of the world... don't worry.

"The video shoot for 'Nymphetamine' takes place this week in London at a secret location and [former Theatre Of Tragedy and current Leaves's Eyes singer] Liv Kristine WILL be featured in the video. Dani tells us: 'It's sort of a murder ballad. The vibe of it is going to be like you are watching theatre. It's going to be very Shakespearian, but the lead characters are actually both females, so there is going to be a slight lesbian kink to it.' Nice... I spent some of today choosing the models for the video.

"Preparation for our South American tour has now begun and we are working on the set list in rehearsals, which is leaning more towards older tracks for the fans down there. 'Nymphetamine' will be released while we are actually in Colombia (on the 28th September), so plenty of reason for us to celebrate! As for touring plans in the rest of the world... bands tipped to be playing with us range from Mudvayne, Lacuna Coil, 3 Inches Of Blood in the USA and Type O Negative in Europe before Christmas. All this can change so please don't quote me on it. I'd just rather people hear it from the band instead of unreliable sources."
