Background
The thrash metal sound of Slayer was formed in Huntington Beach, CA in 1982. Comprising Tom Araya (bass, vocals), Kerry King (guitar), Jeff Hanneman (guitar) and Dave Lombardo (drums), they made their debut in 1983, with a track on the compilation Metal Massacre III. After that the rest has been history. The band played at breakneck speed with amazing technical precision, but the intricacies of detail were lost in a muddy production. Araya's lyrics dealt with death, carnage, Satanism and torture, but were reduced to an indecipherable guttural howl. But this chaos called music is what set the ways for Slayer and many bands to follow.
Through the years, Slayer has been hit with much controversy over their lyrics, including lawsuits. But through the years Slayer has managed to build a following from coast to coast. Slayer has played such tours as Monsters of Rock, Ozzfest, and recently toured the U.S. co-headling with Pantera.
Now almost 20 years later, Slayer is still playing just as hard as ever. Will Slayer ever stop? Not likely, considering they are keeping up with thrash bands half their age, after all they did start it!

Slayer Fans Petition President Barack Obama
The National Day Of SLAYER has apparently made an appeal to the Obama White House to acknowledge “the world's first metal holiday” in a public proclamation on June 6th.
In a press release, the organization emphasizes the significance of heavy metal as a cultural movement and “hopes that President Obama will privately listen to Slayer on June 6th like so many of his constituents”.
The IDoS Task Force has also drafted a hilarious resolution for Obama to employ in his acknowledgment of the Slayer-themed celebration and reportedly mailed a copy of Slayer's Reign In Blood to the White House to help expedite the process.
In the meantime, Slayer frontman Tom Araya made an appearance in an exclusive video posted today on the International Day Of Slayer homepage. He genially endorses the site's efforts on behalf of the band and gives a brief recap of their studio and touring agenda for the summer.

Rolling Stone Posts Slayer Studio Report Online
RollingStone.com has issued the following report from Steve Appleford:
Some things can be counted on at a SLAYER recording session. "Can I interest you in something fast and aggressive?" asks producer Greg Fidelman. He's sitting beside guitarist Kerry King at the Pass Studios in Los Angeles, where Slayer are working on a still-untitled album planned for a summer release, and cues up a new metal track with the working title 'Build Up'. King is ready to thrash.
He's already tapped the Jägermeister machine upstairs, and is now bent over a custom camouflage guitar, his black combat boots on the hardwood floor in the studio control room. King is plugged simultaneously into four amps, each one given a name: The Beast, Hot Ticket Deux, BLS and GF11. Fidelman rolls 'Build Up', and King begins overdubbing bits and pieces of intricate metal melody and a harsh, aggressive riff, his eyes closed, nodding to the intense recorded beats of drummer Dave Lombardo. King's strumming hand is a blur, like a wasp in flight. More...
