Slayer Fans Petition President Barack Obama

The National Day Of SLAYER has apparently made an appeal to the Obama White House to acknowledge “the world's first metal holiday” in a public proclamation on June 6th.
In a press release, the organization emphasizes the significance of heavy metal as a cultural movement and “hopes that President Obama will privately listen to Slayer on June 6th like so many of his constituents”.
The IDoS Task Force has also drafted a hilarious resolution for Obama to employ in his acknowledgment of the Slayer-themed celebration and reportedly mailed a copy of Slayer's Reign In Blood to the White House to help expedite the process.
In the meantime, Slayer frontman Tom Araya made an appearance in an exclusive video posted today on the International Day Of Slayer homepage. He genially endorses the site's efforts on behalf of the band and gives a brief recap of their studio and touring agenda for the summer.

Stage a "Slay-out." Don't go to work. Listen to Slayer.
Have a huge block party that clogs up a street in your neighborhood. Blast Slayer albums all evening. Get police cruisers and helicopters on the scene. Finish with a full-scale riot.
Spray paint Slayer logos on churches, synagogues, or cemeteries.
Play Slayer covers with your own band (since 99% of your riffs are stolen from Slayer anyway).
Kill the neighbor's dog and blame it on Slayer.
Now doesn't that seem like promoting slayer

I'm a big metal fan, and have been for a number of years, but... no.
Why should metal get its own day? No other musical genre has gotten a national holiday or a national day of recognition in the US to my knowledge. There's no national jazz day, and there never has been. There no national rock music day either. Metal's a great genre, and so are a bunch of other genres if you dig deep enough, but I don't think metal is going to get its own day when no other genre has.
Also, why? Seriously, why? Do we really need a proposed day for "metal" bands like Slipknot and all of its fans to go out and proclaim their "dominance" of the genre? No offense to Slayer at all; they're a pretty talented band and have kept playing for decades without really losing their touch, but I just don't understand the idea behind this.

Although i wish it wasnt this way, posts 10 and 11 are both definitely right
plus, everything Obama does is very publicized and i feel like if he made a 'day for metal' the black community would expect him to make a 'day for rap or jazz'.... im not trying stereotypical, thats just the way it is

Slayer has been my favorite band since high school (late 90's yes I'm old) but some of you are out of your f***ing minds if you think this guy would or should listen to them. I know all the sheep who listen to Lamb of God and Napalm Death have been led to believe this is 'like the coolest guy evah!' cause he isn't Bush but he's JUST ANOTHER POLITICIAN! Stop drinking the cool aid you stupid infants. And yes I like LOG and ND, I just don't buy into all their liberal bullsh** so kill me.

Since when do metalheads need legislation to subject the world to chaos? June 6th sounds like a great holiday to me - official or not!
And don't think that Obama would not seriously contemplate doing this. After all, God already listens to Slayer (billboard reference).

I completely stand behind Slayer day. We don't need a metal day because thats what will be ruined by scene kids. Metal day would pose a problem because of this:
Picture "METAL DAY" for a sec. You're wearing a Slayer shirt, and then some scene/mallcore fa**ot comes behind you wearing Slipknot or Avenged Sevenfold going "Look at me! I'm celebrating METAL DAY! KoRn is AwEsOMe!" It would cause too much trouble, mind you, it would give me a good reason to start kicking off on some Nu/core ass, but unneeded trouble nonetheless.
Every trve supporter of Metal (e.g. NOT MALLCORE/SCENE KIDS) can agree that Slayer is awesome overall. So if you wanna be specific, Slayer day is really a "TRVE METAL DAY" but in order to speak a language that everyone understands, we must stick to calling it 'SLAYER DAY.'
I rest my case.

Hey SHREDDER, remember that incident in Mexico on 06/06/06? My Chemical Romance was playing somewhere in Mexico and all the Metalheads were waiting right outside and beat the sh** out of every emo/scene kid. I remember that article because the funniest part was where it read "We interviewed one of the victims, who was sitting on a curb, bleeding and crying..." I was rolling.
48. writes:
Actually I do, one of my friends was telling me about it that very day. The next day in school, a large group of scenesters (roughly 20-25) approached 8 metalheads and attempted to beat em up but a few punk's came from around the corner and got them from the back. It was metalheads and punk's vs emo's. Of course they backed down and surrendered. It was a pretty funny thing to experience.

2) Found out a friend of mine committed suicide, and to top it off he was the one I least expected to off himself
3) Today I got robbed ($80 worth of weed) by 5 Somalians.

This reeks of cheese,..why slayer is in the same area code as obamas presence wise and how it benefits them i have no idea,..obama is one of those star struck politicans, you know oprah, beyonce, jay z, every other hollywood leftist, its sickening....i dont want him having any association with metal period.....besides barracks got plates full of more important issues to deal with, the closing of gitmo and what to do with the prisioners, damage control for nancy pelosi big mouth about the cia, bailing out corperations, bailing out the state of california, figuring out a legit college football playoff system, the list is endless.....no music days period....just keep supporting the true bands that are legit,....
Slayer is one of my bands, but this whole topic even for them is totally gay.....not as gay as kiss being on american idol, but in the ballpark

GOREC**T: You are sooooo right. I completely agree with you on the whore scenecore kids effing the whole thing up. "SLAYER DAY" should only be "SLAYER DAY" for that reason. The people that think they know metal will just eff all of it up saying that bands like some of the ones you listed are true metal. It makes me seriously sick.

Its the day i should have died many, many years ago. I should have been abandoned in a truckstop trashcan otherwise aka my barfday ya know. But on the positive tip i will be seeing Order Of The Black Hand, Medusa and Slow Motion Enslavement in the naptown on 20090606.

BlindGreed: Thanks. I think that's why I joined. lol Everyone where I live is like, a redneck and they all call me names like a tacklebox and stuff. Funny but it's like, no one here likes real metal. If someone is trying to be metal or hardcore they listen to "grindcore bands" (what they think is grindcore) like, Suicide Silence and The Devil Wears Prada. Ugh! Makes me sick. lol
79. writes:
80. writes:
GOREC**T: I like Suicide Silence myself. They're not a bad band at all. I just hate the scene kids who listen to them and think they're like, the heaviest band in the world. They say that they're grindcore when we all know that they're not and bands like Napalm Death, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Anal C**t, and Pig Destroyer are REAL grindcore bands. It like, makes me sooooo mad. I can't stand scene kids. They make me wanna punch babies. lol

82. writes:
Jesus bloody christ....I don't know whether this is laughable or just plain sad. Probably both.
Seriously, what the f*** are these retards thinking? Any "National Metal Day" is an extreme long-shot considering it's largely underground nature. I severly doubt ANY metal band will get a day to itself, and if any were it would be one of the ones with the biggest mainstream appeal like Iron Maiden or Metallica.
You honestly think Obama is going to give Slayer their own national day? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I can already see people frantically typing "IT'S JUST A LAUGH, LIGHTEN UP!", but I don't f***ing care. This just makes heavy metal fans look like morons, and even if it is meant as a joke, they've still wasted time on something that isn't funny. And I wouldn't be inclined to believe many of them are joking.

PANDA, I've been around this site since 2004. When I first got here I liked Nu-Metal and LordAgony was still around being a psycho prior to getting banned and getting locked up for sending death threats to Korn. I was 15, and paying attention to the older regulars here, and alot of that was how I learned about what Metal truly is about. I no longer like Nu-Metal (thank Satan), and I have a true appreciation for what Metal was, what it is now, and what it shall become. And it was because of people like RememberMetal?, BLACKDOG, deathbringer, and even seyes. And what makes it weirder is that now I'm the older regular talking to the kids. But its good, every kid I see into Metal gives me hope that it lives on.
116. writes:
GORE - I've gotta agree with you...I used to visit this site on a weekly basis back in early '06 and I would read posts from some of the members. They would be talking about bands and I would check some of them out. Thanks to them, I've discovered a few new bands over the years.

Gorec*nt & BG1: Thanks. A lot of people that are older see me walking around with Slayer shirts and stuff and listening to Black Sabbath and they're all like, "What do you know about metal?" I like all different types of metal. But I can't stand when people say that a certain genre of music is true metal. Like Korn. I don't mind that band all that much. Not a band I would listen to on a daily basis but I still like them. All these new scene kids and emo kids are trying to slap the metal label on music that isn't even metal. It, honestly, makes me sick. And not too many people think I'm 16. Apparently I'm too mature for my age. I have a feeling I'll also be feeling 40 at 20. I'll let you know when the time comes. lol
121. writes:
Personally, I feel 75, in the sense that I just dont understand these darn kids growin up today, what with their "MTV ocho" and their "Meet the Spartans" and their "Iphonewhatchmacallits", it's all silly nonsense to me. I want to go back to the days of the Xbox and the ipod and toy lightsabers. yknow, simpler times. :P
lol I'm only 19, and my story is basically mirror image gorec***. I think i was a bit ahead though. i was lookin for stuff on either lamb of god or devildriver, and came to this site, which eventually lead me to pig destroyer, Meshuggah, Arsis, a newfound love for slayer, morbid angel, Isis, Nile, and now mastodon, to name a few. I think I got here around late 06 or 07, tryin out a few names and showing everyone how ignorant I was about metal ("Devildriver has the best drummer in the world!", ya I said that)
I have too many people on here to thank for my musical taste, but mostly, I think the credit goes to remembermetal, for all the extreme sh** I listen to, and diamond oz for both the more classic stuff I go for, and the more casual bands like skindred that have found their way into my heart. Cynic too has certainly had a huge hand simply in expanding my musical tastes overall, from doom metal to technical thrash music, so look to him if you wanna find out what all is really out there besides the obvious stuff.
I wonder who the OLDEST person on here is? So far, gorec*** is winning, with a massive "20". any takers?

Thanks guys for making me feel like a geezer. I'm pushin' 22. I found this site in '06 back before it had become somewhat civilized. Especially the korn threads. I remember they used to be a everyone-for-themself insult blood bath. Ironically, that's where I made many of my early friends here.
I was kind of a late bloomer as I didn't get into metal until I was 18. I basically skipped the Nu- and -Core transition stage and went from gangster rap straight to Metallica. Des Moines is basically a 'scene' city (yeah, f*** Slipknot. I'm so sick of that band. They've had a great influence in ruining the already weak local scene), so I often feel like a loner with my views about metal.
I've met a lot of cool people here that have not only introduced me to a lot of cool new bands, but have given me a place to chat with others who share similar views and interests in metal.

You guys know what the f*ck you're talking about and in most cases with people mostly around my age, ARE fake and think that all these p*ssy bands are the best bands in the world. You have an obvious command of the english language and state your opinions effectively. We are (as Gore mentioned) somewhat of a family around here. I believe what binds us all together is our passion for everything metal and our disgust for that which is not but often incorrectly labeled as such.
